Split into groups of FourYou can see that pupils from both schools have ‘moved on’ since the bullying incident. The questions belowwill help us to examine this ‘transformation’:

1. What did the schools do to resolve the bullying situation?

2. How were the pupils involved in this process?

3. What was achieved by their actions?

What Happens in Our Community?

• Where do pupils with a learning disability in our community go to school?

• How often do you meet young people with a learning disability?

• Thinking about our school – what opportunities do you have to meet young people with a learning disability?

Consider Reactions!

"I feel awkward talking to someone with a learning disability, so I end up avoiding them." “They’re still a

person – and they could be a

great person you want to get to

know.”

What have we learned over the last few weeks?

We are all the same and each of us is different

A learning disability is only a difference

People with a learning disability may need extra help to do things but are entitled to (or can live) as good a life as anyone else.

What have we learned over the last few weeks?

People with a learning disability have a right to be safe wherever they are – it is a crime to bully someone because of their disability.

Doing things together is a good way to break down barriers and get to know and understand life from another’s person perspective.

Success Criteria for Lessons 5 and 6

I have explored how pupils’ relationships were changed by the ways they addressed the bullying of pupils with a learning disability.

I have considered the opportunities we have to meet and get to know young people with a learning disability.

I have designed a poster about an aspect of what we have learned over the past few weeks and presented it to others in our school.
