Crafty Corner

An easy, fun craft which helps to devote fine motor skills is cotton bud painting. Draw a simple shape, like an Easter egg, onto plain paper. Older children can draw their own outlines. We then used a silicon muffin tray to mix different poster paint colours to-gether. Then we used cotton buds dipped in paint to make dots all over our shape. Leave to dry before displaying your creations or cutting out your pat-terened egg shapes and using them to make cards.

Moses basket gets gold at awardsA Leicestershire company who make baby products has scooped a prestigious award for its Moses Basket. Natures Purest Pure Love Moses Basket has won the Gold award for Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket in the Mother and Baby Awards 2014.It won out in it’s category over nine other products after winning over a panel of mums.Natures Purest is based in Kibworth Beauchamp and was founded in 2006 by Jane Albon to make baby products to the highest possible safety and quality standards that will not irritate babies skin.Jane said: “We were absoloutely delighted to get a Gold Award in the Mother and Baby Awards, which are seen by mums as a real stamp of approval on quality products.”The Pure Love Moses basket features the company’s signature soft, organic cotton with silk used to dress the substantial palm basket, wadded liner, foam mattress, padded carry handles, a fitted sheet and blanket and a jingle heart rattle. All their products are made with100 per cent organically grown, naturally coloured cotton which uses none of the chemicals used in the processing and manufacture of conventional cotton.

On party games Antonia Hopson said: “Wrap pass the parcel and include one sweet per layer and a small pack at the end. Musical statues is always a winner. Forget the pinata, they can’t break them.”Andrew Garrett has the most important advice for parents at the party. “Join in. Make noise, pull faces, dance like a wally. Your little monsters want to see Mummy and Daddy having fun too!”

Our top 10 party tips

1) Keep food simple. A few sandwich options, breadsticks or crisps, fruit and biscuits.2) Lollipops contain no animal products and so can be enjoyed by vegetarian children and those with dietary restrictions for religious or health reasons. 3) Party bags are not a competitive sport. One or two simple gifts under £1 will suffice. 4) Make a cake if you enjoy baking. If not, buy it!5) Hire a hall to prevent your home being torn apart.6) Be clear if you expect parents to stay with their children for the party duration.7) Take party music with you and a player that al-lows you to press pause for pass the parcel.8) Take the party outdoors. Woodlarks in Leices-tershire will organise an outdoor party for you with den building, games and marshmallows round the fire or you could try the park for a picnic party in summer.9) Kids love bouncy castles and soft play. Take them to a soft play centre like the one at Woodlands Gar-den Centre. Make an extra effort with the cake and games like pass the parcel to personalise the event. Alternatively, bring the soft play to you with Jolly Jacks Play Bus which covers Leicestershire.10) Balloons make a party. Bunches of he-lium balloons on either side of the entrance look festive. Ordinaryballoonsscattered about keep kids en-tertained while you welcome guests.

Just the thought of organising a children’s party is enough to send some people into therapy but it doesn’t have to be a stressful experience.Party planning is all about organisation and a good contacts book. Take recommendations on venues and entertainers from your friends. A brief survey of experienced party parents has thrown up some interesting advice.Alison from Leicester said: “Don’t get too far ahead of yourself. Children don’t really appreciate clowns, magicians and swimming until they are over five. A bouncy castle and some games is all you need for kids of three and four.”On party food there were mixed feelings, healthy food being important but an understanding that it wasn’t necessarily going to get eaten. Sara Dace said: “Simple food, don’t put sweet things out until every-one has had at least one sandwich and a carrot stick.”Lyndon Sedgewick added: “Orange and blackcurrant cordial does for drinks. Put carrots, eggs and healthy food up, and cakes, biscuits and crisps also!”Louise Railton from Leicester said: “Have a cake cut up and in party bags so you don’t waste time doing it during the party as you miss out on all the fun.”Party management was Jaz Halpine’s tip. “Keep it short and efficient - two hours max is plenty for under 10’s - plus have a plan and stick to it.”
