Top FAQ’s You Need To Know Before getting your fingerprint-based background check in Florida

1 What should I look for and be able to expect in a fingerprint provider?

It may seem the easiest to go with any random fingerprint provider that pops up on Google. But remember that you’re submitting your valuable personal identity information in order to obtain a background check for placement. You’ll want to choose a trusted live scan service provider! Here’s how:

• What do the reviews say? Our customers are the best source of information. Do a quick Yelp search or find their BBB rating status to find a service that’s worth your trust.

• Does the provider require their own employees to get fingerprint-based background checks?

While the state doesn’t require fingerprint-based background check providers to run background checks on their employees, all of our fingerprint technicians receive background checks. Shouldn’t the person taking your prints be reliable and trustworthy when handling your sensitive data?

• Are they accurate? Our fingerprint accuracy rate is over 99%. We guarantee our fingerprinting service.

• Are they fast as well as accurate? You’ll want a service that provides fast results while not compromising the quality of the print. We are approved by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a live scan service provider. We are also an FBI Channeler with a 24 hour turnaround on fingerprint-based background check results (FBI Departmental Order 556-73).

In Florida, fingerprint-based background checks are required by law for a number of purposes or industries. With over 18 years of experience processing fingerprint-based background checks, we’ve learned a few important things about how to get fingerprint-based background checks done as quickly and efficiently as possible. • How well trained is the person taking your prints?

You want to be sure that the people taking your prints and submitting your information are knowledgeable and experienced in the fingerprinting process. Your personal information should be handled with professional care. Besides a training manual, our employees receive weeks of hands-on training and have immediate access to a tech support hotline.

2 How important is accuracy in filling in the personal information that goes with the application?

When you submit your fingerprints, you expect your employer or agency to get a report with results right away. But if your name is misspelled, the birth date is wrong, or the fingerprints poorly captured, your prints may be rejected. If your prints get rejected, you’ll lose needless time as you start the process all over again. Our system allows the personal information to be double checked before submitting the prints to help ensure accurate results the first time.

3 How can I find a provider with a simple, convenient process?

You already have a lot on your mind going through the employment process. Don’t add the extra stress that comes with a complex or multi-step fingerprint enrollment procedure.

Here’s a few things you should look for:

• Convenient locations – find a location that you can access easily, with free parking, in a building that you won’t get lost in.

• No appointments – appointments can be a hassle. Life doesn’t always keep on schedule. Find a provider that

allows you to walk in and get your live scan electronic prints at a convenient time for you.

• Mobile options – Mobile and on-site options are offered for groups of people. The provider will bring their live scan equipment and do the fingerprinting on site. You don’t have to worry about travel or schedules. Call us for more information if your group needs mobile service.

4 What do I need to bring to get my fingerprints taken?

Bring two valid forms of identification. One of the IDs must bear your photo and signature, such as a driver’s license or other government issued ID. Bring any paperwork given to you by the company or agency requesting the background check. The agency will also provide you with an ORI number (an identifier for the correct profession or agency) needed for the form. You will need to clearly identify the profession for which you are being fingerprinted. You will be asked to submit basic personal information required for processing your fingerprints by the fingerprint vendor.

5 What is a Live Scan?Live Scan is an inkless, electronic means of capturing

fingerprints in a digitized format and then transmitting them to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI. After signing in, fingerprinting will only take 5 to 10 minutes. Previously, fingerprints were taken by applying ink to each finger, then rolling each finger on a fingerprint card. Ink and roll cards are still used for some purposes, like out-of-state or federal fingerprint submissions.

6 Do I receive a copy of my report? The results are sent directly to the agency that is

requesting the fingerprinting. You may submit a request in writing to have the agency share the results with you.

7 How does the process work?We know it can seem complicated, so we created

a flowchart to help you understand the journey your fingerprints go through before getting approved.

8 What if I receive a letter that my electronic fingerprints were determined to be illegible?

Our live scan technology is programmed to determine whether your fingerprints were scanned successfully. This situation is more likely to happen with ink & roll manual fingerprinting. If you receive a letter of illegibility, please bring the letter to us and we will recapture and resubmit your prints. Your prints need to be resubmitted under the same Transaction Control Reference Number (TCR).

9 How long are my prints valid for?The Florida DBPR retains your prints for 12

months. The FDLE retains your prints for 180 days. If your prints are expired at the time your application is submitted to the DBPR or other state agency, you will be required to retake and resubmit new prints at your expense.

10 Can I reuse my recent prints to apply for another professional license?

Per FDLE regulation, your prints can’t be shared between professions, or other agencies. You will have to have a separate set of prints submitted for each license you’re applying for, with its correct ORI number.

11 What types of payment are accepted?WE ACCEPT ALL MAJOR CREDIT CARDS,

DEBIT CARDS, money orders, cashier’s checks, or company checks. Your company or agency may also enter into a service agreement for billing terms. We do not accept cash or personal checks.

12 Did you know background checks are not just for business anymore? You can now request your own FBI report.

Did you know you can run your own prints to check your own criminal history through the FBI? An individual has the right to the results of their Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) from the FBI. You can submit your fingerprints if you work with an FBI contracted channeler. See the full list here: https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks/list-of-fbi-approved-channelers-for-departmental-order-submissions

Here are a few reasons you may want to request your own background check:

• To make sure your FBI record is complete, accurate and up-to-date

• To review or to request a correction or update

• To challenge information on your record

• To satisfy certain legal requirements, such as a requirement for adopting a child

• To satisfy a requirement to live, work, study, teach or travel in a foreign country

• Other court related matters

If you submit your background check and find incorrect information, you can request a correction. If you believe your Identity History Summary contains inaccurate or incomplete information, start by contacting your State Identification Bureau, which can be found by visiting https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks/state-identification-bureau-listing
