Source : Posc.org - Geoshare
The drilling process starts by drilling a hole starting from a well tophole location down to some depth. Thereafter it is not unusual to drill a number of sidetracks, each starting from a 'kickoff point' in an existing part of the hole. The resulting topology can be generalized as a tree of holes rooted at the well tophole location.'Wellbore' is the term applied to the hole extent from the deepest (in measure depth) point of such a unique branch all the way back up to the well tophole location. A result is that a given extent of hole may be part of a number of wellbores; for example, the hole immediately below the tophole location participates in all wellbores associated with the well.
There has long been inconsistency in the industry about whether 'well' means one such wellbore, or the collection of all wellbores sharing a common tophole location, or indeed, even some other concept.

Open Standards are a crucial element, because organisations can only collaborate effectively and achieve a boundaryless information flow if they speak the same, widely accepted and recognised language. Proprietary standards are often solid and established but they fail when more and more parties are involved; therefore the only way forward for organisations is to adopt global, open standards.
Open standards do not only pertain to horizontal, infrastructural standards (like the well-known and now quickly stabilising stack of XML/SOA standards for exchanging information through web services, and Open Document Format for the exchange and storage of office documents), but also address vertical market- and industry-specific requirements for information exchange and collaboration

Levenscyclus - statussen
“A segment is considered to be under construction when actual physical placement of materials or other construction activities are or have been underway. When construction work begins on a contract, the entire segment covered by the contract is considered to be under construction.”
United States Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration (1991)
Appalachian system highways will be shown on the map as 1/8-inch wide bands. A participating segment will be identified by inserting the appropriate status symbol and mileage within the 1/8-inch band between termini of the segment. The mileage will be shown in parentheses. For example, 3a (1.5) would identify a participating segment in stage construction 1.5 miles in length.
