It starts out a littleslow, but like wine, itgets better as time pass-es.

Mario (Fabio Volo)plans to open a nightclub with his friends

while he finishes his ar-chitecture studies inNorthern Italy. He is re-cruited by the city coun-cil as a public accountant

considered by thecommunity as an honorand a stable economicopportunity that is elu-sive to regular corporate

workers like him.He takes up the work

in the council as a sur-veyor of the cemeteriesand meets Linda, a beau-tiful graduate student.

Their short romance willopen Mario's eyes to thecorruption literal andfigurative that sur-rounds him.

The film works, and itworks on many levels. The Fever is a romanceand a comedy (but not inthe usual Hollywood ro-mantic comedy mould), amid-life idealist state-

ment, an anti-corruptionmovie. And it scratchesthe surface of recycling. One can feel refreshedafter seeing the movie;its as if youve taken ashower and cleansed

    your system of Holly-wood cornyness,fakery and dis-honesty.

The main reason itworks is due to Volo whois perfect as the everydaysimpatico thirtysome-thing Italian their ver-sion of our Vhong orOgie. Kudos too to theinventive dream se-quence devices that pro-

vide insight to the mean-ing of the movie. I wantto say these devices areslick and sophisticated, but they are not smart
