1) Show them what you can do

• Assuming you’ve got the goods, put yourself out there.

• Publish or perish.• ‘Create your art’

2) Build fewer, deep relationships with the right groups

• Research the companies you want to work for, create a top 10 list.

• Volunteer for associations that partner with these companies.

• ‘Find your tribe’

3) Know what they want, feature the right skills

• Customize every resume you submit to feature the key skills for that position.

• Apply for your dream job even if you don’t have 100% of the desired skills.

• Do research prior to every interview – who is interviewing you? What are their key concerns? Challenges? How can you provide value to the company?

4)Be generous and listen!

• Use social media to follow and listen to industry influencers, employers and potential colleagues.

• Read industry blogs and add relevant and thoughtful comments.

• SHARE the brilliant work of others in your field.

1) Learn continually

• Digital marketing requires you to keep updating your skill set and knowledge base.

• Read, read, read!• Don’t be afraid to communicate to

employers that you would like to attend industry events and receive additional training.

• Employers SHOULD appreciate employees that want to learn.

2) Do what others can’t or won’t do

• Learn peripheral skills, so you can do it yourself and not rely on others.

• Be the person that takes on ANY task, especially the ones nobody else wants.

• Be the lynchpin – the person they can’t live without.

3) DON’T avoid conflict

• Express frustration, concern or any negative feelings about the job directly, clearly and as early as possible.

• Don’t simply avoid conflict.

4) Ask for what your worth

• Business owners constantly have their eye on the bottom line.

• Nobody is going to GIFT you with a raise.• Arm yourself with industry salary

information and have the confidence to get your financial needs met.

• Negotiate your salary up front and ask for a 3 month or 6 month review BEFORE getting hired to ensure you have the opportunity to review compensation.
