Hospital Policies/Procedures
Become familiar with your hospital policies and procedures• Access requests
– Both activating new users and deactivating old accounts
• Passwords
• Change control – very important to understand this for making configuration changes to your system– At my facility, I have to submit a form with my changes
summarized and I include a copy of the screen shot, configuration report, and printed version (as applicable)
– Then I have to attend our EDC (Electronic Documentation Committee) meeting to present my changes
Concerns/Comments/Requests
Create a way for staff to reach you for issues/concerns or requests• Email
• Paper forms
• Electronic forms
Google™ Docs/Drive• Very useful to create forms for users to submit info
• Email alert when something has been submitted
Keep Track of Requests
Organize your configuration requests and other projects to keep track of everything you’re working on in one place• Description of Request/Project
• Other people involved
• Steps/Process
• Estimated time to complete
• Status
System Manager Home Page
Create a home page that works for you
If there are things you need to check each day or information you look for frequently, create a home page with that information so it’s right there!!
Create a list of things you need to check on a daily basis and make a spreadsheet/checklist for easy reference each day
Have drop downs that you add new nurses/providers/ others to? Keep a list of all the items you need to add to each type of user.
Be creative!! Any process you don’t do very often that has a lot of steps, map it out so it’s easier each time you do it!!
