– TIGER-NET: Aims at supporting the satellite-based assessment and monitoring of water resources (next presentation by Dr. Walli)
TCBF approach
• Paradigm change was needed:
Capacity Building Building on Capacity
(Executive Seminar on Earth Observation for Improving Water Management in Africa, 2008

• There is an existing capacity in Africa; good starting point – Univerisities, regional centres, etc.
– TIGER Capacity Building Facility Phase I
TIGER CBF Phase II activities
• Support of 20 research projects
• 8 training courses on EO topics
• Training Kit
• Support to Regional Offices
• Support to data access
• Cooperation with other networks and donors (World Bank, CapNet)
• Fellowship programme (Alcantara)
• Support of projects in publications: – AARSE conferences,
– Special issue of Remote Sensing ‘Open’
Countries Involved: • Burkina Faso • Chad • DRC • Egypt • Ghana • Kenya • Madagascar • Mali • Morocco • Namibia • Republic of Congo • Senegal • South Africa • Zambia
TIGER Phase - Research Component: 20 Research Projects
Activities: • Research supervision • Tailored courses • Courses in Africa • Distance education courses • Publication support • etc.
