INFORMATION MEETING NOTES FEBRUARY 28, 2016

CHANCEL REMODEL Council President, Jim Wiese, called the meeting to order and Pastor White led the opening prayer. Pastor White announced that the final tuning of the new speakers had been completed. Pastor Nestor gave an update on the projection system installation project and thanked all the volunteers who helped with the project. Also, Pastor White announced that the new chancel furniture had just been ordered in the past week.

It was brought up that the audio system was too loud at the February 28 10:30 Service. There were also questions related to the illumination of the cross and whether any more thought had been given to installing kneelers for Holy Communion. Another question related to voting procedures on major expenditures. Feedback on the overall remodeling project was mostly very positive.

TRANSITION PLANNING Pastor White gave a brief history of the transition issue and planning process to date and announced that a third retreat with Dr. Jim Pence is scheduled April 8-9 at which a leadership succession plan will be developed. Pastor Zurek was invited to clarify his retirement plans as he had been hearing from people who were misinformed about it. Pastor White announced that he is looking at 3-5 years before retiring and stated that it is too early to give an exact date. Pastor Zurek closed the meeting with prayer.

EASTER GARDEN VOLUNTEERS:

The Chancel Garden for EASTER SUNDAY was BEAUTIFUL! A lot of people commented on how

special it made worship. THANKS to all of you!! Also, a special thanks to those who delivered Easter plants to shut-ins. God’s Blessings.

IS THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST OVER WHEN EASTER DAY ENDS? by Pastor White

Last Sunday we, with Christians around the world, began our Easter worship services with the shouted announcement, “Christ is risen!” and everyone responding, “He is risen indeed!” Easter worship is giving honor and praise to God who has saved us through Christ Jesus and has made eternal life possible when He raised Jesus from the dead. Easter worship is proclaiming and celebrating that Jesus is alive and so we will live with him!

These days, of course, Jesus is literally everywhere. He’s on T-shirts and magazine covers. He’s the subject of “inspirational art.” He’s on certain History Channel documentaries and network mini-series. He’s on hats and bumper stickers. Virtually everyone in America has heard of Jesus. Pollsters try to measure people’s belief in Jesus. One poll found that 80 percent of Americans say they believe in Jesus. But do they know Jesus as He is revealed in the Bible? That same poll found that less than 60 percent agree that Jesus is God, and 52 percent agree that during His earthly life He sinned like anyone else. Another poll found that 64 percent of Americans believe Jesus actually rose bodily from death; but do they believe He lives today, that He reigns with the Father over all Creation? Do they believe in His actual presence with those who love Him and that His Spirit literally dwells in their hearts to inform their conscience and direct their path?

People have no problem believing Jesus was a real person in history and they like what they’ve heard about Him. They might think of Him as a good and godly man— like Mother Theresa, only male. If they’ve heard of the resurrection, most dismiss it as a purely human fabrication and they get on with their lives unaffected. But we have to

ask if it’s any different for people who profess faith in Christ. In fact we should all ask, “Who is actually governing my life?” Because if, in fact, Jesus is risen from death, then He is Lord; and my life is not my own. Do I seek His guidance in prayer for the big and small decisions in my life? Do I bring my burdens to Him in prayer? Do I trust that He is constantly with me through all my daily activities? Am I ashamed of my sin and desire to live a more righteous life because I love Him?

In The Truth Project series some of us experienced, we were asked, “Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?” If you and I answer that Jesus’ victory over death is really real, the implications for us in this life are monumental. Theologian Wolfhart Pannenberg has said, “If you believe the resurrection happened, you will change the way you live.” Essentially: If I’ve not been changed, then I don’t believe Jesus’ rising up from death is really real. It’s just lip service. The Resurrection happened long ago, and because Christ lives we are changed.

Here’s your Saturday morning line-up from 6 a.m. to NOON. These are great national programs you’ll be glad to hear on your radio station, KTLX 91.3 fm … on the air since 1974.

WEEKEND OPPORTUNITIES – All Stars Express Sunday mornings 9:30-10:15 am Age 3 - Grade 6

Your friends are always welcome!

APRIL 17 A Very Special Day in All Stars

Special guest, Wilma Akright, who will be dressed in costume, will take us to places in the world that we have only read about. She has the gift of sharing her experiences and her heart for the lost in a way that really connects with kids. Grades 1-6 will meet in their weekend rooms and then gather in “The Edge” to meet and learn from Wilma.

Parents, this is an opportunity you won’t want your kids to miss!

The Orphan Grain Train is an organization that provides relief supplies to help ease human suffering worldwide. And the international headquarters is right here in Nebraska!

An Invitation to provide supplies:

Our congregation will have an opportunity this month to join our Breakout 6th Graders in their goal of giving 100 hygiene kits to the Orphan Grain Train.

Here’s how: Pick up an item-specific card off the display in the Narthex April 9-23, make the purchase and bring the item by May 1.

Our 6th Graders have practiced and presented their personal testimonies and now will prepare for their roles as leaders here at Trinity for the elementary kids on June 5th and get ready for their mission trip.

5th Graders are developing a daily quiet time. They read in the book of Matthew at home; then at Breakout they see the scriptures come to life as they watch the Matthew DVD.

Grades 3, 4 & 5: April 6 is their last day of Breakout Classes Grade 6: April 13, 6:30-7:00 pm Prep meeting for mission participants, parents and leaders

APRIL 20 - 6:00-7:00 pm We celebrate our Breakout year with a family picnic, potluck style, here in the Fellowship Hall.

The response from our August survey of families indicated the 9:30-10:15 am time works best for most families in the summer too. So that’s what we’ll do!

June 5 - July 31 Age 3 – Grade 6

Our focus will be grounding kids in the rock-solid foundation of God’s love, a love that guides us through life’s dark times. On this courageous, captivating quest, kids have fun while they experience Jesus—the light of the world. Praise & Worship, Bible Adventures, KidVid Cinema, Science Experiments, Games and Mission Projects will be included this summer. So tell your kids to gear up and get ready to enjoy an over-the-top underground adventure! Each week is a stand-alone session, perfect for guests. Bring your kids and their friends! (P. S. We won’t really be going underground.)
