The Challenge :• Farms being corporatised• Businesses leaving• Town jobs disappearing• Families leaving• Cultural activities decreasing• No future for youth• “No one listening”

Critical Point :

A Mother : “my kids want summer jobs – where are they ?” Answer : No one knew.

Mother discovered : Farmers screaming for workers. Unemployed want work. No link between two.

Mother said : Guess I’ll let people know what I find out.

Lotterywest role - to facilitate empowerment :• get to know the community

• look for quiet doers - personal motivation

• encourage big picture planning – short medium long

• encourage cross project links - leverage energy

• negotiate control & accountability processes

• encourage early start with start up resources

• encourage continual review of goals & process

• encourage partnerships - community retains control

• link with other govt agencies

• pre knowledge of community developments

• encourage healthier agency practices
