Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As many of you know, our 4thgrade class has been studying California history this past
year. We have recently been learning about the Gold Rush, who the miners were, how they
came here, and what life was like in California during this time period.
I am please to announce that our class will be going on a field trip to Coloma to go on the
Gold Discovery Tour at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park on Friday Oct 17th. This tour
will tell the story and view the sites of what The Coloma Valley was like before James
Marshall's gold discovery, the events leading up to his incidental discovery, and the history of the
California Gold Rush and town of Coloma. We will see a working replica of Sutters Mill and
meet docents dressed up in period clothing. I have attached our itinerary on the next page. We
will be leaving school at 7:00 am and returning at 4:30 pm.
Students will need:
$10.00 to cover the cost of the bus and our tourA sweater and good walking shoes
A packed lunch and two snacks (please no glass items)

Health History Card
Permission slip, health history card, and $10.00 fee must be returned by Oct 12th
