Final Book Assignment
"I am so excited for my first day of kindergarten!" said Benny.
"You are going to be the best kindergartner ever!" said Benny's mom.
And off to school he went.
But Benny didn't have the best first day of kindergarten.
His lunch got smushed, his crayons melted and nobody wanted to play
detective at recess.
"I am the worst best kindergartner ever!"
Benny said when he got home from school.
"Maybe the second day of kindergarten will be better," said Benny's mom.
But Benny's second day of kindergarten wasn't better.
He forgot his books, his juice spilled and nobody wanted to play detective at recess.
"I am the worst best kindergartener ever!" said Benny.
"Maybe the third day of kindergarten will be better," said Benny's mom.
On the third day of kindergarten, it was Benny's turn for show and tell.
He brought his special detective hat. But nobody was impressed.
At recess Benny watched his classmates play on the jungle gym.
But he preferred to sit in the shade and play detective, even if nobody wanted to play with him.
Benny was just about to crack the case when he heard someone crying.
"I can't find my special teddy bear!" cried Millie.
"Maybe Benny can help us. He's a detective," said Oliver.
"Yeah! He even has the hat!" said Clara.
Benny, can you help us look for my special teddy bear? asked Millie.
Benny had never been a real detective before.
"Okay," said Benny.
Benny instructed everybody to look high and low.
Clara checked the monkey bars.
Oliver checked the swings.
Millie checked her backpack five
times.
But nobody could find it.
Benny was beginning to worry.
"I don't want to be the worst detective ever!" he said to himself.
“If I were a special teddy bear, where would I hide?” he wondered.
Suddenly, Benny had an idea.
"Millie, did you check your cubby?" asked Benny.
"Not yet," sniffed Millie.
Benny walked over to the cubby wall.
"Millie, is your special teddy bear soft and snuggly?" asked Benny.
"He found it!" said Oliver.
"Great job, Benny" said Clara.
"You are the best detective ever,"
said Millie.
Benny sat with Millie, Oliver, and Clara at lunchtime.
Oliver even gave Benny one of his dad's famous carrot chip cookies.
It was the best carrot cookie Benny
ever tasted.
"I am the best kindergartner ever!" Benny said when he got home from school that day.
He couldn’t wait for the fourth day of kindergarten.
