REAFFIRMATION OF THE BAPTISMAL COVENANT

I. Scripture Sentences

Deuteronomy 7:9 Romans 12:1 Ephesians 4:4-7

II. Call to Discipleship

The call of Christ is to willing, dedicated discipleship.

Discipleship is both a gift and a commitment, an offering and a

responsibility. It is marked by change, growth and deepened

commitment. It is lived out of a continuously renewed sense of

God’s call and God’s claim upon us made in our baptism.

III. Call to Renewal

By God’s grace we are saved and enabled to grow in faith

and to commit our lives to Christ. I invite you now to claim that

grace given to you in baptism. On this occasion we celebrate the

depth of God’s love in Jesus Christ and join together to reaffirm

our baptismal vows.

IV. Profession of Faith

I ask you, therefore, to reject sin, to profess your faith in

Jesus Christ and to confess the faith of the church, the faith in

which we were baptized:

Do you renounce all evil which defies God’s righteousness and

love?

I renounce it.

Do you renounce the ways of sin that separate you from God?

I renounce them.

Do you turn to Jesus Christ and trust in him as Savior and Lord?

I do.

Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying his word and

showing his love?

I will, with God’s help.

V. Thanksgiving over Water

VI. Prayer

VII. Blessing and Anointing

Greetings to all! The “I Am” saying that we are looking at today ranks among

the most well-known statements of our Lord. It is helpful to note that Jesus

has just assured his closest disciples that after he goes away, “I will come back

and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (v. 3). But then

he shocks his friends when he adds, “You know the way to the place where I

am going” (v. 4). What!?! One brave disciple dares to ask how they are

supposed to know the way. Jesus reply should not come as a huge surprise

given what he has already said about himself: the Bread of Life, the Light of

the World, the Gate of the sheep and the True Vine. Oh yes, and he is the

Resurrection and the Life. -Pastor Karl CHURCH STAFF

Jesus exemplifies

the Way of God

in the world.

He was with God

“in the beginning”

and was sent

into the world

not only to tell us

about God

but also to

demonstrate how

God wants us

to live.
