Remember, if you do get the flu or a cold, don’t ask for antibiotics. Colds and flu are viruses and antibiotics don’t work on viruses. TIPS FOR A HEALTHY, HAPPY WINTER
Winter is here and with it comes the seasonal woes of chilly weather, colds and flu and long dark nights. We tend to congregate indoors more in winter – at home caring for sick family members
or in shopping centres, libraries or other indoor public places which are breeding ground for cold and flu bugs. It’s not too late to get a flu shot. Flu in Australia peaks about July/August so get one now if you haven’t already had one and your body will have time to build up some immunity. Good hygiene will help prevent you catching colds and flu. Viruses can be found aplenty on escalator rails, shopping trolley handles and even
the buttons on the ATM machine so regular hand washing is a good idea - and keep hands away from the mouth and eyes.
Keep active A walk outside will also ensure you get some sunlight to make vitamin D. A lack of this vitamin is known to cause a number of health problems including depression.

PAUL DICKSON’S COMPUTER TIPS What do I need to know about safe social networking?
• Limit your friend list: don’t 'friend' random people.
• Protect your privacy: don’t share your password and set your profile to private.
• Your personal details are valuable: don’t share them.
• Protect your reputation: keep it clean and ask yourself, would you want others to see what you upload?
• Be careful who you trust: a person can pretend to be someone they are not.
• Don't use a webcam with people you do not know.
• Think before you post, chat, upload or download.
We at Rembrandt are constantly looking to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents (particularly those with memory loss) through the development of new and innovative activities. Occupational Therapy Students from UniSA are currently working alongside Rembrandt Living on a project that will focus on providing meaningful activities for our residents with memory loss.
Before we are able to develop and trial activities, we first NEED your INPUT (residents, families, staff and volunteers) on the activities that you think residents living with memory loss would like to participate in at Rembrandt Court.
We greatly appreciate your time and input towards this project. Please place your ideas in the suggestion box or on the feedback tree. The suggestion box is located at the front entrance of Rembrandt Court, on the table where visitors sign in. The feedback tree is on the wall near the Kleine Café. We look forward to reading your ideas. Thank you! Feel free to contact Holly and Jesse (Occupational Therapy Students) via email, or in person if you have any queries. Holly and Jesse will be at Rembrandt Court from Tuesdays to Thursdays for the next 8 weeks. Email: [email protected]
