CHRISTMAS IS LOVE IN ACTION

In looking for a closing thought I am sharing one Iused before from Dale Evans. In high school I read herbook “Angel Unaware” that is about Robin Elizabeth, the only child Roy Rogers and Dale Evans had together, who died of complications of Down Syndrome shortlybefore her second birthday. Dale Evans said, “Christmas,my child, is love in action. Every time we love, everytime we give, it’s Christmas.”

This reminds me that we all give so much with thework we do in the name of our Order and for other orga-nizations we belong to. My wish for you is that your lifemay be filled with family and friends who are loving, giving, and caring all year round.

If I may be of service to you or your lodge, you arefree to contact me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR

Dear Sisters and Brothers,It seems that the months go by much quicker then they

used to. Here it is December already. The first day ofwinter is December 21 and I am not looking forward tothe next few months. I just hope we have a warmer win-

ter then we had last year. I wish you alla very Merry Christmas and a wonder-ful Happy New Year, 2020.

LOOKING BACK

AND TOWARD THE FUTURE

When the last month of each yeararrives, we need to reflect back onwhat we were able to accomplish andlook to the future of our RebekahLodges, just because we maybe didn’taccomplish everything we wanted to.

We don’t have to do it all at once. 2020 gives us achance to do better. Don’t give up. There is alwaystomorrow.

OUR LEADERS’ THEMES

“Focus on What’s Important” and “The Future is inyour hands. Step up to the plate.” These are the Themesand Mottos of IARA President Elizabeth Mowry-Harbstreit and Sovereign Grand Master E. Wesley

Nelson respectively. Use them as your guide.INSTALLATIONS

You should set your Installation date, time and placeand notify Assembly President Margaret Truttmann assoon as possible if you want her to participate in yourInstallation. Be sure to tell her if you want her to arrangefor the other Installation staff.

I LEAVE YOU WITH. . .When I got up this morning,

The sky was cloudy and gray. What happened to the sunshine, Where did it go today? Then I thought, how foolish, The sun is always there.Shining in behind the clouds, but we are not aware.

Our lives are like that sunshine,Which sometimes seems to hide.

Happiness will radiate let cheerful thoughts abide. Some folks think that happiness is not here today,

They feel they will be happyWhen all things go their way.

Happiness begins today, not when things better be,Joy and delight in everything begins right now with me.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!Just like that we have already reached the end of the

year. By the time most of you will be reading this, I willbe on my way back homefor Christmas and NewYears with my family. I, asI’m sure many of you canagree, cannot believe howfast the time has gone by.While the days may feellike they are dragging on,the weeks and months justkeep disappearing. AlthoughI must admit that I don’tmind too much because I

am just counting down the days until I get to bear-hugmy kitties again.

GETTING READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS

With Christmas looming so close, it’s time to startwrapping up some of our end-of-year projects and startto get ready for 2020. This is a great time to have a holi-day party and get together to make cards for each other,or put together little stocking-stuffer kits. Put on some

music, make some hot chocolate, and go crazy. The holi-day season always makes me feel just a little more joyfuland a little more optimistic. If anyone else finds them-selves feeling the same way, just enjoy it and take thatextra energy and put it into something good.

DON’T STOP COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS

While many of us are fortunate enough to get to seeour family and open Christmas presents with them, thereare also a lot of us who don’t have that privilege.Thanksgiving may be over, but that doesn’t mean we canstop being grateful for the blessings we have. Thank youall for making my year so wonderful. I have learned andgrown so much in this past year, and have accomplishedone of my goals that I have had since my first Theta RhoAssembly. The biggest blessing I can thank the universefor this year is being surrounded by such an amazing, talented, smart, and kind group of people. I hope yourholidays are filled withcheer and love.

“Despite everything, it’s still you.” - Undertale— With Peace I Love In Happiness Through Service,

’TIS THE SEASON

Well, okay, guess I have to do this again. So, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the

Encampment members and all of the Brothers andSisters in our other Branches of the Order.

What are you going to do during this festive season ofthe year? Bet I can guess, let me see. Party numerous

times, go shopping and run up a for-tune in credit card bills to make some-one happy, eat far too much and com-plain about being overfullwhile watching every foot-ball game on the tube. Some will undoubtedlywish the relatives thatcame to visit would leavebecause they have stayed to long.

Sound about right to you? Itseems you hear all of these when talk-ing about the season with friends andfamily.

Last night I visited my home Encampment, Alpha #1,and we initiated a new candidate to our Encampment, sothat is a gain of one new Encampment member.

What would happen if instead of the description ofwhat we do during this season as described above? Youwould do the following:

Take the time to go to your local mission or soupkitchen ,whatever it is called in your area, and volunteerto help feed those less fortunate then us. While you arethere you could take the time to explain who we are andwhat we do and extend an invitation to join us. Possiblywe could initiate several new members into ourEncampments.

We will be doing three Degrees in Spokane for ournew members and I am sure we will be getting them intoEncampment as well. We can grow if we just keep work-ing at it.

HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!— In Faith, Hope & Charity,

A Blessed Holiday Season To Our Brothers & Sisters

Back in August, the girls of Spunky Bluebirds Theta RhoGirls’ Club of South Tacoma came up with an idea to hosta big Halloween party at our local community center as away to find new members. Although we liked the idea, astheir advisors, we were concerned. Hosting a public eventis a big undertaking requiring lots of planning, logistics, and work.. . . and we are just a small club. Our biggest con-cern was, “Who’s going to be responsible for all this?” Butrather than discourage their idea or take charge of it, wechallenged them to figure out how to make it happen. Weprovide advice and structure and they jumped into action.

LOTS OF PLANNINGThey developed an extensive plan filled with ideas,

deadlines, tasks, a budget, and a list of supporters whomight provide help. Top on the list was Grand Secretary,Laurel Delony, who provided valuable guidance andencouragement. With a sense of focus they proceeded toinvestigate cost/availability of the venue, design a promo-tional poster, research food options, plan activities, shop fordecorations and prizes, invite the other clubs, and reach outto all the lodges for help. To get all the work done, theymet weekly during which time their enthusiasm never fal-tered.

WE PULLED IT OFF

When the big day arrived, we were all feeling nervous, wondering, “would anyone come?” That feeling quickly

went away as the room filled with families. We estimate30+ kids (girls and boys) picked up goodie bags filled withcandy and Theta Rho flyers. They enthusiastically took partin all our games (including Theta Rho Trivia) and art pro-jects. It felt satisfying knowing we had pulled off the partyand connected with our community in a positive way thatsparked interest in our Order. And most importantly, ourgoal of increasing membership is happening. We havealready initiated one girl and two more will be initiated atour next meeting.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALLOur heartfelt thanks go out for all the donations and

messages of encouragement sent in support of our project. As each donation arrived, the girls’ confidence and excite-ment grew.

Knowing that folks from our Order believed in theirvision and wanted to support it was exceptionally affirmingand empowering. This experience is just one example ofthe many opportunities and benefits Odd Fellowship pro-vides our Theta Rho Girls. And in that support how ourgirls gain leadership skills and develop confidence in theirabilities, all the while discovering they are a part of a greatorganization.
