A Letter from the LTGHello Ninja Turtles!

Guess what? School’s just about out, and summer is finally here. While I know we’re all planning on sleeping 1434234 hours every day, eating gallons of ice cream, and spending relaxing days tanning by the beach with friends, we do still have service projects and socials going on throughout the summer.

This summer, I want to see you guys celebrate, get fat, and most of all, SERVE. You may not think you make a difference, but every smile you cause on someone’s face, every positive influence on someone’s life, is changing the world, one baby step at a time. Love these moments, and be thankful that you are given the opportunity to help so many others.

You guys are amazing.

Love, Jeffrey

Message from the EditorHello!

Wow, is it June already? It sounds great to just relax in the summer sun, but just remember: Key Club never ends (in that good way.) There’s a bunch of wonderful events coming up soon and I can’t wait to see you all there (especially historians- take photos!)

Anyways, I hope to see your articles and visuals soon. Anyone, not just historians, can submit things, and I’ll be happy to see them! Artwork, pictures, collages, poems, ... anything really!

The Officer Training Conference (OTC) is this 30th, and I think every officer should go. Lots of fun activities planned ahead!

Speaking of fun activities, word on the street is that July is packed with things to do. (pstt...possible barbeque??)

Have a lovely summer!

Love, Christine

Annie’s Words - South Pas Pres.

Michael’s Words - San Marino Pres.

I am so grateful to have joined and actively participated in Key Club my freshman year. Admittedly I started out just so I could get through my community service hours requirement for graduation. However, the more events I went to, the more fun and meaningful each experience became.

There have already been countless memories made at service events like the Rose Bowl program-selling, Halloween Spooktacular, Kiwanis-One Day, and the Region Beach clean-up. I’ve met so many wonderful people who are uber enthusiastic!

One standout is my freshman year club president, who inspired me to get more involved. So for this upcoming year, I hope to encourage more South Pasadena Key Clubbers to get out and experience the magic of service. :)

Love, Annie Lu

Key Club has always meant a lot to me. It’s something where I can contribute back to the community; whether it is walking old citizens around the block, or helping out at the AIDS walk, I can always find a way to serve the community and others around me. For the upcoming year, my wishes are to keep the same enthusiasm that D10N has had in the past years while increasing the amount of service performed. I hope that, while working together, Key Clubbers can build a greater appreciation and understanding of the lively environment and neighborhood that surrounds us.

Love, Michael Ho

features/fun stuff

San Marino Initiates Its CabinetImmediately following cabinet elections, San

Marino retiring Senior Cabinet prepared a special treat for each one of its new officers. As is done every year, each newly elected member received a personalized costume to flaunt for the day. The costume included things like clam shell brassieres and firefighter hats. A sign reading the new member’s appropriate cabinet position and “Ask me how I feel!” completed the look (yes, new cabinet members did a lot of cheering, hip thrusts, and jump on it-esque cheers). The initiation package also included an apologetic bag of goodies to make up for the embarrassing costumes.

article and visuals by Alex Huang

1. FANTASTIC POSTER: The poster on

display at SMHS sure has silly nicknames

for cabinet. “Lu-Lu Liu” (for Kat Liu)

really? 2. NEW CAB: How sweet! New

cabinet poses for their first ever photo

together. 3. MATCHING: Historian Alex

Huang and Secretary Katherine Liu smile

at the camera in their ridiculous firemen

hats (and Alex’s shell bras). 4. SHELL

FAIRY PRINCESS: Dreams really do

come true! Brandon Chen is initiated as

the Vice President of Events!

fact of the monthDid you know that the “K-E-Y” in Key Club actually stood for something? Shocking, right?

It doesn’t mean keys for opening locks or key players (even though there are many in the club).

In fact, it stands for “Kiwanis Educates Youth” or “Kiwanis Encourages Youth.”

Do You Know Your Key Club?1. What are the Key Club colors and what do they each stand for?

2. What are the four core values of Key Club International?

3. What organization sponsors Key Club?

4. What is the college level of Kiwanis International?

5. Where is the Key Club International office located?

6. Where and when did Key Club start?

1. White – Purity, Blue – Unwavering Character, Gold – Service2. Leadership, Caring, Character Building, Inclusiveness3. Kiwanis International4. Circle K5. Indianapolis, Indiana6. It started in Sacramento High School in 1925.

The Anatomy of a Ninja Turtle As modeled by your LTG, Jeffrey Xiong

HEAD: Often filled with thoughts about Key Club, meeting new people, memorizing cheers, and anticipation for the next new event. Also knows the Key Club Pledge by heart and can recite cheers even when asleep.

EYES: Well, they’re not open on this model right now, but they’re always on the lookout for new Key Clubbers!

MOUTH: Mouth muscles (if that’s what they’re called) get tired from smiling, smiling, and smiling too much. Talks a lot.

BODY: Used to display that various amount of Key Club attire acquired over the years. #keyclubswag

THROAT: Essential tool for fall rally and those random spirit battles that pop up frequently. Often gets hoarse after a full day of “having more spirit than you.”

HEART: Proven to be larger than normal hearts. Just goes to show how caring Key Clubbers can be!

ARMS: Made for hugging, group hugging, and linking arms to show support. D’awww!

LEGS: (not really pictured here)Usually tired after a day of helping out at volunteer junctions such as marathons and festivals. Also a necessary tool during icebreakers (shown here) to run away.

HANDS: Like what they say, Key Clubbers are always willing to lend a helping hand. Also great for high fives (everyone loves those)!
