THE TITAN TELL-ALL

The Titan Tell-All is a bi-weekly newsletter highlighting the awesome instruction and events going on around TSMS. There are SO many great things going on, it is hard to catch them all! If you, or someone you know, has an outstanding idea that should be showcased, please let Ashley Roberts know! UPDATE: Thank you for all of the emails, IMs, texts, and phone calls, telling me to get my camera to your neighbor’s room asap! Keep them coming!!!

The Annual 12 Days of Christmas was a blast this year, not to mention a huge success! I cant wait until next year!

FIELDHOUSE GRAND RE-OPENING!!

Thank you to everyone that attended the Fieldhouse Grand Re-Opening! We had almost 40 first time visitors! Please come back anytime!

Based on your feedback, the following have been, or will be added to, the Fieldhouse: TEKS deconstruction tips, bell schedule, and a whiteboard!

CURRENT HAPPENINGSSPELLING BEE

The 2014-2015 TSMS Spelling Bee champion has been crowned! In the 26th round the winning words were ignominious and whippoorwill. Last years champ was knocked out with the word jostle. Other challenging words that Mrs. Ripley called included, anathema, epicurean, and farrago.

SHOWCASE CLASSROOMS

Pre-AP Spanish students in Mrs. Crow’s class collaborate in partners to create a Photo Story including pictures, captions and sound effects that depict an understanding of all vocabulary words.

8th Grade Social Studies students in Mrs. Martin’s class participate in a Socratic Seminar after reading a common text about George Washington.

All 7th grade students experienced a hands-on activity about adaptations in science. Some were asked to complete everyday tasks with no thumb while others gathered “bird food” using different types of “beaks”.

Mrs. Duermeyer’s students collaborate to film and present weather maps and a 5 day forecast.

Mrs. Kelley’s Reading Styles Students are using the Chromebooks daily to access MindPlay, an interactive lesson that scaffolds and remediates for each student. 7th graders

in Mrs. McDavid’s ELA class perform in the spotlight as they present their creations in the TSMS Poetry Lounge.

IMPROVEMENT After her students discussed in the Socratic Seminar, Mrs. Martin gained valuable feedback from her students using a plus delta. These ideas will make the next one even better!

Mrs. Buran uses a Status Check to determine her students background feelings before beginning the poetry unit.

Mrs. Stewart updates her data board to hold students accountable and encourage class competition.

IMPROVEMENT

Mrs. McDavid and Ms. Hunter’s students let their voices be heard about what they like and know about poetry.

Mrs. Salinas posts class averages on each assignment using a bar graph on her data board. She also asks students to reflect on the previous unit using a plus delta.

Following a unit test and homework assignment, Mrs. Rains and Mrs. Dougherty asked for student feedback on class changes.
