On Tuesday, Oct. 23 athleticteams and student groups

gathered in the Ridgeway gymto don pink t-shirts and listento Suffolk faculty speak. It wasthe 11th annual huge humanpink ribbon photo, taken as apart of Suffolks breast cancerawareness events.

Jim Nelson, Suffolksathletic director, quicklywelcomed everyone and thenintroduced Athletic Director ofStudent Affairs, Ann Coyne.

Im thrilled to see somany members if the Suffolkcommunity here today, saidCoyne, Its great to see somany pink tee-shirts. She

thanked the professors whohelped with the event, theSuffolk SUPERS for their breastcancer awareness events, andthe S.O.U.L.S. for participatingin the breast cancer walk.

Commissioner of the GreatNortheast Athletic Conference,Joe Walsh then took thestand to speak about Suffolksathletic teams and theirdedication to campus activitieslike these.

Nelson returned to thepodium to announce thePink Tie Award winners. The

award is presented to Suffolkfaculty members who haveworked in breast cancerawareness. Adam Nelson,the mens basketball coach,

and Ed Leyden, the womensbasketball coach, won awardsthis year. Team memberspresented both awards and thecoaches received pink nauticalbrand ties.

Then it was time for thehuman pink ribbon. All thestudents put on their shirts andformed the shape of a ribbon.A photographer took picturesfrom the balcony above. Afterthe photos were taken a few ofthe athletes threw t-shirts andwrist bands from the balcony.

Students were happy to bepart of the event.

It's nice that we collaborateas one cause, said AdriannaGarrett. She explained thatthis event is one of the onlytimes Suffolk's athletic teamscome together. She is a partof the tennis team, and stoodwith teammate ElizabethArkins, who was excited to bea part of the event.

Its a good feeling, I guess,to come out here and supportthe cause. It definitely meansa lot to the hockey team, saidsophomore Dan Mazzei.

Suffolk Kicks off Breast CancerAwareness Week With Human Pink Ribbon

Throughout the past weekor two, the Supreme Court ofthe United States (SCOTUS)

has been working on a casethat has produced much mediacoverage nationwide and willbe followed closely by manyacross the country. The nineSupreme Court justices, led byChief Justice John Roberts, be-

gan the trial a few weeks agoin early October. Affirmativeaction -- needless to say anever-present topic these daysin the media and especiallyfor students and schools --was the matter with the case

known as Fisher vs. Universityof Texas. The plaintiff, AbigailFisher, said that the Universityof Texas did not accept her asa student because the schoolconsiders race a part of the ad-missions process among otherthings such as awards, activi-ties applicants have partici-pated in, and their economicsituations. Arguments for each

side began on Wednesday, Oct.10 at the Supreme Court Build-ing in Washington, D.C.

NPRs Nina Totenberg re-ported that Fisher, a whitestudent who did not make thecut at the university, contendsthat the universitys consid-eration of race is unconstitu-tional. She said she was taughtfrom when she was very youngthat any kind of discrimina-tion was wrong and questionsthe example the university

sets by considering race as afactor in admissions.

The key phrase in the case,which will definitely havesome effect in the way the Su-preme Court Justices vote, isin critical mass of minoritystudents that the University ofTexas intended to reach saidgoal. However, the wording ofthe phrase is not entirely clear

so there was much back-and-forth discussion of it.

Suffolk class of 2016 Sena-tor Matthew Gifford said hebelieves that there is a sort ofdiscrimination in [the] collegeprocesses and businesses, andif in those cases can be usedas a very good thing. On Monday, October 22,the Democratic and Republi-can candidate for Presidentfaced off for the third, andlast, time just 15 days prior towhen voters across the UnitedStates go to the polls. Presi-dent Barack Obama and Gov-ernor Mitt Romney discussedforeign policy for an hour-and-a-half at Lynn University in

Boca Raton, FL. This final de-bate of the quadrennial debateseason was moderated by Bob

Schieffer, Chief WashingtonCorrespondent and Moderatorfor Face the Nation.

Topics for the night rangedfrom Libya and Syria concern-ing the challenge of a chang-ing Middle East as Schieffersaid, to foreign alliances, aglobal education for studentsin the United States to be ableto compete against their peersfrom other nations, to redlines with Israel and a nuclearIran.

Since last Tuesdays townhall-style debate at Hofstra

University, the tension wasbuilding more and more be-tween the candidates witheach day that passed. Aftertalking domestic issues and re-sponding to the various ques-tions from undecided votersin the local area, with the VicePresidential debate slipped inbetween, the two contenderswere starting to prep for theirlast shot on television in frontof a vast audience across thecountry. The time had come,

and everything was in place.Each major channel was tunedto the live broadcast and, af-ter having a news anchor fromtheir own station provide somepre-debate commentary andexplanation, they all pannedto the cameras in the LynnUniversity Performing ArtsCenter. Schieffer, at the ready,sat in his chair. Once Obamaand Romney shook hands witheach other and the moderator,they began the debate.

It started with discussion of

how to improve the situationin the Middle East, and thenbroadened to other areas and

segments like Americas lon-gest war inside Afghanistanand Pakistan.

Later in the debate, Rom-ney mentioned, once again,the Presidents apology tour,when he visited several coun-tries in the Middle East andtalked to various leaders in thearea.

Wrapping up in the wan-ing minutes, before they deliv-ered closing remarks, Schief-fer asked the two candidatesabout the rise of [the PeoplesRepublic of] China and possi-

ble future threats from aroundthe world.Unlike the first debate in

Denver, but similar to thetown hall, Washington Postcolumnist, NPR and MSNBCcommentator, and recent au-thor of Our Divided PoliticalHeart, E.J. Dionne tweeted afew hours after the last debatethat he considered the thirddebate...the first debate in re-verse.

However, in the end, hestated, all in all Obama was

knowledgeable, authentic, andpresidential and further solidi-fied why hes got my vote.

With just under two weeksleft until Election Day on Nov.6, each party is preparing andproducing the best last pushin the remaining days, withnumerous Get Out The Voterallies and campaigning acrossthe states, but particularly inbattleground states that arequite likely to determine theoutcome of the 2012 presiden-tial race (like Florida, Nevada,Colorado, New Hampshire,and Ohio.) It is just a matterof money, time, and better po-litical management that will

bring one candidate to victoryand the other to a not-so-greatloss. After months of traveling,after millions of dollars onboth sides being put into hun-dreds of ads, after campaign-ing in all the states, Obamaand Romney now have the fin-ish line in sight. Who comesout on top is up to Americanvoters.

Bostons tech-savvycommunity was treated lastThursday, Oct. 18, to gdgtlive at the Bijou Nightclubon Stuart Street. gdgt is awebsite that offers reviewsand recommendations on allelectronics from cameras toheadphones.

Over two dozen sponsorswere featured at the event,showcasing the newesttechnologies for phones andother electronic devices.

Among the most popularwere iRobot, Belkin, Tivo, andOlympus.

Its cool because this isone of the few tech events thatlets regular people in, saidattendee Jacob Kantzer, whoworks at the IT Departmentat Harvard Law School. Itsa chance for normal peopleto see the newest technologyavailable.

Visitors could trade in theirold smartphones and laptopsat the eBay electronics loungewhile they snuck a peek atthe new technology that is

available through the website.As the online auctioning siteseeks to rejuvenate its brand,it isnt just for used itemsanymore.

One of the main attractionswas the HTC booth whichwas showing off their latestsmartphone, the colorfulWindows Phone 8X. Whilemost of the details of the phonewerent available to the publicyet, they did showcase some ofthe features of the new device.One of the coolest featuresfor student use was the note

taking application, where youcan draw and type notes while

the device records audio. In acompetitive market controlledmostly by Samsung and Apple,this device provides a colorfuland exciting alternative.

The [Windows Phone 8X]pushed me to come here,said Kacie Cabral, an Arlingtonresident who came to Bostonfor the event. The cameraworked well and it was nice tohold. I really like the differentcolors.

Another popular sponsorwas Drobo, a manufacturer ofdata storage devices. Either

of the two latest gadgets, theDrobo Mini and the Drobo 5D,can be connected to a laptop

or desktop computer, grantingaccess to advanced storage

space for pictures, videos, anddocuments.

vs. University of Texas is onceagain bringing back the subjectof affirmative action. ThoughFisher is claiming that the uni-versity is focused on bringingup their minority numbers asopposed to choosing potentialstudents not on the color oftheir skin, but on the way theyworked and studied in school.

The now 22-year-old Fisherwas seen leaving the court-house with Edward Blum, arepresentative of legal defense

fund group known as Projecton Fair Representation. Thisgroup receives fiscal supportfrom DonorsTrust which, inhand, has brought millions ofdollars to a conservative, non-profit political advocacy groupcalled Americans for Prosper-

ity.In 2003, the Supreme Court

dealt with a different affir-mative action case evolvingaround the University of Mich-igans law school in Gruttervs. Bollinger. In the end, theCourt sided with the Universi-ty of Michigan because the Su-preme Court Justices believethe school had enough interestin supporting more minoritiesto attend rather than just fo-cusing +on choosing them.

Career Services CareerFest 2012 will take place fromOct. 22 to Nov. 1. The tag lineof the event is: Nine days,20 Events, Enhanced CareerSmarts.

Our goal in the event is...to focus on career aspirationsof our students, said Directorof Career Services andCooperative Education, PaulTanklefsky. He says the pointof the event is to give studentsresources, tools, and smartsso they can successfullycompete in the job market,especially since the recession.

Career Fest, previously

called Career Week, has beenan annual event for over 25years. The name change was

in order to bolden the week,according to Tanklefsky.

We wanted a varietyof career stuff in a weekto capture the attentionand interest of the Suffolkcommunity, he said. One ofthe events Career Services ismost excited for is the kickoffevent, the dream share wall,which began on Monday. Inthe Sawyer lounge, a canvaswas hung up for students towrite their aspirations, tips,and advice on. Tanklefsky alsohopes professors will writetips on the wall.

Two other events that aresignificant in this years CareerFest are the dream sharedocumentary and the LinkedInphoto shoot. The documentary

follows college students asthey find their dream careersand will be shown on Thursday

Oct. 25 by the dream shareteam, who will be available forconversation after the movieairs. The LinkedIn photoshoot on Wednesday, Oct. 24will feature a professionalphotographer to take headshotsof students who plan to usethe website as a resource infinding employment.

There will be numerousspeakers throughout CareerFest. Roger Berkowitz ofLegal Seafoods, also a Suffolktrustee, was the KeynoteAddress this year. On Monday,he spoke about how companiesand evolve or dissolve. AnneAllred and Adam Williams fromWHDH/7 NEWSwill speak onbroadcast journalism. MikeVolpe, the Chief Marketing

Officer of Hubspot will speakabout marketing.

Faculty will be present atthe majors and minors expo,which is geared for freshmenand sophomores, saysTanklefsky. He anticipatesthat over 400 students will bepresent at this event alone.Aside from a faculty memberfrom each department, therewill be graduate students andmembers of Career Servicespresent to aid students inchoosing majors and minors.

Career Fest is in the fallbecause Tanklefsky sees it is atime for students to look into

career options, whereas in thespring students are typicallysearching and applying forjobs.

Career Fest typicallyreceives positive feedback,according to Tanklefsky.

We always want [students]to walk away smarter andsavvier, he said.

Tanklefsky also wantsstudents to know thatalthough Career Fest is justone week each year, CareerServices is open all year andhas counselors willing to meetwith and help students.

We encourage students tobe mindful, even though this isa 10-day career fest, our officesare always open to help.

What would you do fora 20 dollar bill? Would youwalk across the street? Wouldyou perhaps even further go abit further? Well, that is thequery that helped create thesite "Plenty O Twenties". Itis a web site that gives away20 dollar bills daily and hasdone so every day since itsconception on September 19th,2011. Sounds like a scamdoesnt it? The site is productof a collaboration betweenSuffolk Law graduate StevenGrant and his best friendRichard Cook, who are both

natives of Wakefield, Mass.When asked about the

formation of the company,Grant said that it was formedfrom silly debates that Rich andI would have. He went on tosay Weve known each otherpractically since we were born.We were in the same nurserytogether. Our friendship beganat Canterbury Nursery. Oneday we were both wonderinghow far would someone go fora $20 bill. Would you bendover to grab one? Would youwalk across the street? We

thought it could be a kind ofsocial experiment. I mean Iknow a Donald Trump typewouldnt but it was a fun ideaand it maybe it could makesomeones day. So one day, Idecided that to leave a 20 atthe public library.

While he was unsure aboutwhat happened to the twenty,when he saw that a friend ofhis found it and decided to puta picture of it up on Facebookhe was really intrigued withthe fact that she put it uponline. We really thought itwas a great business idea to

start up, and to see what kindof entity Plenty O Twentiescould turn into. Thecompany itself is blossomingquite nicely, as they have beengiving out twenties every day,even on holidays. So far theentire amount of cash that the

duo have put out over $7,000,but dont think this cash flow

is stopping anytime soon, witha constantly growing socialmedia presence on Twitter,Facebook and even their ownapp. They also have emailblasts that can advertisebusinesses with promotionslike free money and specialoffers.

The future of this businesswas something else thatGrant talked about. Lately,businesses have beensponsoring their own $20s.They have been hiring us tohide money in locations nearthem. He went on explain

how it can help out the localeconomy by spending saidmoney in local businesses. Onthe thought that the site mightbe a scam Grant said peopledont think its real but itsgreat once they realize that itis.

hide them. The business isalso involved in five charities

No experience is morequintessentially Spanish thansitting out on the terazza ofa restaurant, chatting with afriend, and sipping a cafe conleche long after the meal hasbeen finished and the tablecleared. Here, the pace of dailyactivities has slowed twicethe amount, and time spenteating, drinking,and talking withfamily and friends

is considered themost important partof the day. The firsttime I spent threehours at a restaurantfor lunch, I hadntrealized how muchtime had passed.But in Spain, thistype of experienceis treasured, buts i m u l t a n e o u s l y normal. Tounderstand theSpanish and theircustoms, onemust first take acrash course ontheir relationshipwith food.

To start their day,the Spanish usually have acoffee, sweetened with milkand sugar, or a small pastry.They then spend the first halfof their day working and take

a long lunch break around 2p.m. For lunch an appetizer,main course, and dessert orcoffee are usually served.

This three-course mealis often called the menu ofthe day, and is the best wayto sample and get to knowdifferent kinds of Spanishfood. To start, gazpacho isserved - a cold tomato soupmixed with peppers andvegetables. For the secondcourse, potatoes with grilled

pork or any of the fish caughtfrom the endless Spanishcoastline are on the menu.Finally, for dessert, one canchoose from traditional flan to

cinnamon rice pudding, or theever popular melon, a sweeterversion of honeydew melon.

After all this food isconsumed, it is customary totake a siesta, or mid-afternoonnap. But after work, once10 or 11 p.m. rolls around,the Spanish are ready to eatagain. This time, tapasare onthe menu. These bite-sizedor small portions of foodare usually eaten in trios orgroups and are often served

with the house wine or beer.Specialties include tortilla, theSpanish omelet, jamon iberico(cured ham from pigs fedonly acorns,) croquetas (fried

portions of creamy mixedchicken and ham,) calamares(fried squid,) and patatasbravas (potatoes servedwith spicy tomato sauce).

But enjoying these mealscomes at a price, and notone valued solely in Euros.In Spain, mealtimes are anaffair for family and friends.A person is never seen eatingby themselves, on the street,or in the metro. The conceptof leftovers is unheard of, and

should a waiter forget yourdrink or bring you the wrongorder, you may have to whistlejust to get his attention again.These things are all difficult to

The event gathered awealth of Suffolk studentswho not only engaged thespeaker, but seemed to enjoy

the food without hesitation.Suffolk junior Angie Moussaenjoyed how the event wasan informal and relaxedatmosphere and easy toask questions. For otherstudents of Arab background,the food invoked plenty

reminiscing thoughts of home.Iraqi gastronomist and

anthor of Iraqi cookbookDelights from the Garden of

Eden, Nawal Nasrallah, gave anall-encompassing presentationon foods frequentedthroughout the Arab world.

She began her talk with a quotethat characterized the generaltheme of comparing foodswith their histories and theirpolitical implications: If you

get used to for a newcomer toSpain, but it only takes a bitof time to uncover the methodbehind their inviting madness.)

The reason customersmust always ask for the bill inSpain or let the waiter knowwhen they wish to order isbecause it is considered rudeto interrupt a person duringtheir meal. The plate may onlyhave crumbs left on it, but thewaiter assumes that his clientsare having a conversation or a

reunion of sorts, and sohe makes himself scarce.This is the same reason

separate checks arentprovided in restaurants.Here, only family andfriends dine together,and when you'rewith people you love,someone should alwaysbe willing to foot the bill.

Countless restaurantvisits in Spain show thatthere is no better way toexperience the Spanishculture than participatingin their most sacred andanticipated event of theday: mealtime. Overcoffee and pastries orwine and tapas, whilechatting with a friendand recounting that

days events, any personcan live like the Spanish do:appreciative, carefree, andmost importantly, happily.

President Barack Obamahas been acceleratingunconscionable acts ofviolence initiated by formerPresident George W. Bush,and with infuriatingly littlereaction from the mainstreammedia or the American public.These egregious acts includekeeping entire countries andpopulations terrorized, angry,and seeking retribution. This

would be none other than thePresidents "secret kill listandPredator drone program,which people throughoutthe Middle East especiallyPakistan, must live with.

It is difficult to imagine thatour own President a leader ofwhat is supposedly the greatestbastion of freedom and libertyin the world would havethe power and conscious toterrorize innocent civilianswith unmanned, heavily-armedaerial vehicles. Believe me; Iunderstand that there are manypeople being targeted by thesedrones who have routinely andmethodically plotted to kill

innocent civilians, includingAmericans. However, wemust stop to think, Is thisdrone program justified oris it counterproductive?

One of the most alarmingfigures is the number ofinnocent civilians murdered bysomeone half-way around theworld, and they are able to doso without repercussions fortheir clear disregard for humanlife. Not even Abdulrahman al-

Aulaqi, a 16-year-old Americancitizen, was spared in onedrone strike in Yemen, yetthe silence on the part of themedia, administration, andpublic was deafening. This boywas labeled as a military-ageboy in his 20s as justificationto proceed with the dronestrike, just as with dozens ofother incidents where childrenare disregarded in order toavoid international rules.

In some cases, includingthe murder of Abdulrahman

al-Aulaqis father,American citizens wereexplicitly targeted withoutdue process of the law.Abdulrahmans father,Anwar al-Aulaqi, wasknown for writing anti-American propaganda andwas placed on Obamas killlist for merely inspiringradical Islamists. Withoutsufficient evidence, the

drone strike whichwas within the bordersof a country which wewere not at war withwent through, and atleast one other Americancitizen was also killed inthe attack on suspicionof guilt by association.

In some cases, guiltby association was takenso far that the funeralsof those killed by dronestrikes were also targeted,

with more women and childrenin Pakistan consistently

murdered. I believe it isclear that the potential for avicious cycle of violence is alltoo apparent. We should alsonote that with the excessiveamounts of collateral damagepresented by Obamas droneprogram, we are in effectbreeding new terrorist threatsas people seek retribution.

These drone strikes notonly bring about collateraldamage, but are also bringingforth the potential for endlesswar. The emotions felt duringwar are removed by takingthe soldier out of the field

and placing them in a videogame-like control station. Oneis able to kill indiscriminately,without harm to ones self,and the American publicfeels no pain or sacrifice wewould otherwise feel if asoldier must be shipped offfor combat or dies in a battle.We are essentially left with anAmerican public ignorant ofthe ills of war and unable tosee the effects or feel the pain.

It is estimated that over70 countries are now inpossession of some sort ofunmanned aircraft. Ten yearsago, the United States had totaldomination of this market, but

drones are becoming morepopular as their wide rangeof potential uses becomesmore evident. However,the overwhelming majorityof top-line technologicallydominant drone hardware isstill in use by the Americanmilitary, and with thisactivity has come criticism.

What unsettles many criticsof the new technology (asidefrom the fact that only a fewof the people literally moweddown from thousands of feetin the air were actually holdingguns) is the enormous gap

between the two sides militaryprowess. While its easy todismiss the fate of probableterrorists in a war-torn nationon the other side of the world,this unprecedented advantageraises some unpleasantquestions about the future oflaw enforcement in general.

As previously stated,the United States no longerenjoys the monopoly on dronetechnology they once did, but,to put it bluntly, our dronesare still better than anyoneelses. Since we invented

and developed the idea, wehave further enjoyed a totalmonopoly on how, when,where, and why to use them.However, as the internationalcommunity becomes moreaware of the potentialof these sometimes tiny,unmanned air craft, questionsabout regulation begin toemerge. And, rightly so.

In light of the recentturmoil between China andJapan over the uninhabitedSenaku Islands in the SouthChina Sea, Chinese dronesnow continuously circle the

islands looking for what Chinaconsiders illegal activity.Stanford and Yale Law Schoolsreleased a study last spring thatclaimed up to 98 percent ofdrone strikes involved civiliancasualties, a far cry from thesurgical precision the Pentagonhas previously claimed.

In the coming monthsand years, you can expectmore and more attention,

and eventually the vocal butineffective Security Councilresolutions condemning dronerelated violence somewhere.And keep in mind, all this is onthe international level. Its onthe other side of the world,youre thinking to yourself,so why should I care? Letme paint you a little picture.

Youre ten minuteslate to pick up your daughteror little sister or significantother, with another 15minutes to go while they wait

out in the cold dark. Comingup ahead on the highway is

a stretch of about half-a-milewhere the speed limit, forarbitrary and outdated reasonshappens to drop from 65 to55 mph. Youre going 70. Nocop in his right mind is goingto pull you going 70 in a 65,and most cops, realizing whenspeed limits drop like that,have enough humanity in themto let you fly by at 70. The keyword here is humanity. Droneshave no humanity. They seenumbers, and if your numbersare bad, youre getting a ticket.

Some of you might think, Iam a law abiding citizen, thus

I have nothing to fear. Firstly,I encourage you to look intoGeorge Orwells 1984. Andsecondly, think of me the nexttime youre in a hurry andcrossing Tremont Street whilethe lights are red. There areno cars coming, you can hearyour train pulling up to ParkStreet down below, but thelight is still red. Do you cross?I do, and unless youre lying to

yourself, so do you. They callit jaywalking, and its a $50fine. Tell it to the judge (whilethe judge is still human!)and call your congresspersonthe next time drones comeup in Congress, which Iassure you, will be soon.

The Vietnamese StudentAssociation at SuffolkUniversity is more than justa student organization, buta family with purpose, saysVice President Jeanette Dong.Dong commented on theirvery large student group andexpressed the nature of their

presence on campus.The organizations self-

proclaimed mission is toprovide the opportunity forthe community to exploreVietnamese culture, traditions,and customs. They strive tocreate better communicationbetween Asian students andstudents from other countries,and to help each other withthe difficulties of college lifeoutside their homeland. Theclub strives to promote diversityoutside of the Vietnameseculture base in compliancewith their mission and goals

as an integrated organization.The Vietnamese Student

Association is an extremelyactive organizationencouraging events on andoff campus, whose first eventwas Pho Night. On October 11,the club went to a Vietnameserestaurant in Chinatown calledPho Hoa. At the restaurant,the club got to taste manytraditional dishes including

called Pho, which many of themembers fervently ordered.The night was a great bondingmoment for old membersengaging the new members.

Another feature eventplanned for this semester isthe annual Casino and GameNight. They expect well over40 people to arrive, playingmany types of card gamesand board games. All of theproceeds from this event willbenefit a Vietnamese charity.This fun-filled night, completewith food, drinks, and prizes,will take place on November 8.

Project Nur is a group atSuffolk that works directly

through the American-IslamicConference. Project Nur wasfounded after September11 by an Iraqi woman in anattempt to break the mediastereotypes of Arab-Muslimcultures throughout the U.S.Suffolk Project Nur ChapterPresident Dana Muaddicommented on plans shehas for the organization oncampus, include holding manymore events over the nextyear. We had a great turnoutfor this event, Muaddicommented. The organizationhas been actively engaging

the Suffolk community inan effort to make the Araband Muslim cultures palpable.

Spring rolls anyone? Thatsright, the VSA will be hostingMake Your Own Spring RollNight, where students willbe able to make their ownspring rolls and eat themright after. This event willtake place on November 2.

Aside from all the events thattake place within the Suffolkcommunity, the VSA alsocollaborates with Vietnamese

PALESTINE - Not since 2007 has a single Arab head of statemade a visit to Palestinian territory. This trend towards disunityhas been the norm for the Palestinian Authority since a coolingof relations with Iran and Syria caused the Palestinian regimeto move their headquarters out of Syria and into Egypt. At thetime of the move last February, Palestine cited the growing civilunrest in Syria as reason for the switch, and has been basedout of Cairo ever since. Along with this move of the Palestinianleadership came what the BBCdescribed in their report Mondayas a notable cooling of diplomatic relations with what had, un-til then, been Palestines closest ally. Thus has almost six yearspassed before the streak was broken yesterday by Sheikh Hamadbin Khalifa al-Thani, the current Emir of Qatar. The ipso-factoprime-minister of Palestine, Ismail Haniya, heralded the visitas the end of economically crippling blockades put in place byIsrael nearly five years ago, following the victory of the Hamas(a self-proclaimed terrorist group) in their democratic elections.

SOUTH KOREA - As the New York Times reported yesterdaymorning, a group of activists in South Korea have succeededin their plan to send many thousands of leaflets over the 38thParallel and into North Korea by balloon, hoping they wouldreach a small town by the name of Imjingak before being scat-tered. The leaflets carry messages contradicting the officialNorth Korean regimes version of certain historical events, andrefute North Korean history books that claim the United Statescaused the Korean War instead of the invasion by the Northinto Southern territory. The activist group consists mainly ofNorth Korean defectors, who carried out their plan despite re-

peated threats from both South Korean police and more no-tably, the North Korean regime. In response to the success-ful launch of the balloons, South Korean forces instituted anevacuation of certain areas near the border, for fear of mis-sile threats made by North Korea recently. A rival group ofactivists came to protest the balloons, claiming the groupwas attempting to start a war between the two rival nations.

ARGENTINA - As stated inBBC World News, Argentine PresidentCristina Fernadez has remained firm in her approach to the on-going detention and diplomatic row over a seized Argentineship in Ghana. Three weeks ago, La Liberdad, an Argentine frig-ate was seized while in port in Ghana, at the behest of creditorswho claim that the state of Argentina has failed to pay certaindebts. NML Capital, a subsidiary of U.S. hedge fund Elliot Capi-tal Management, is one of Argentina's former creditors, and lostroughly $100 million worth of loan money when Argentina de-faulted on much of its debt in 2001-2002. Some of the debt wasrestructured, but more than 60 percent of the funds have beenpursued by the lenders through the court system, including El-liot Capital Management, responsible for the seizure of the ship.

ITALY - An Italian court has ruled against six scientists, all ofwhom were formerly employed by the Italian National Com-mission for the Forecast and Prevention of Major Risks. Theruling is the culmination of serious public outcry that followedthe devastating earthquake of LAguila in 2009. The 6.3 mag-nitude earthquake claimed 309 lives, and displaced more than80,000 people from their homes. Much of the controversy sur-

rounding the court ruling and the outcry over the scientistscomes from a statement released less than a week before theearthquake, and following up several smaller earthquakes thathad struck the area recently. The statement claimed that therewas no foreseeable risk, despite the series of smaller earth-quakes that had been observed before the 6.3 magnitudeearthquake that claimed so many lives. Scientists both in Italyand throughout Europe have risen in protest against the rul-ing, claiming that not only will it serve to discourage futureforecasts for fear of retaliation, but that the earthquake wasunpredictable using current technology. As Der Speigel re-ported on Monday, many opponents of the controversial rulingclaim that poor or ignored building regulations are as muchto blame as the geologists who failed to foresee the disaster.

Mario Testino sets up at the MFA

Famed fashionphotographer Mario Testinohas gained great attention andbuzz-worthy news around thecity of Boston with his newexhibit In Your Face, currentlyhoused at the Museum of FineArts located on HuntingtonAvenue. The exhibit featuresdisplayed photographs that thephotographer has featured in

various magazines and privateworks within the past 30 years.It is a celebration of not onlythe development throughoutthe years, but also a meaningfulappreciation of the efforts thatoccurred behind the scenes ofeach photo displayed, allowingvisitors of the Museum ofFine Arts to be exposed toa different side of fine artthat sets itself aside fromany other works displayedin the entire museum.

A frequent visitor to theMuseum of Fine Arts might

not expect too much from aseries of photographs but willbe instantly be convinced oncethey walk down the set of stairsleading to the exhibit. Uponentering the stairwell, museumvisitors are introduced to awall full of roughly 30 smalltelevision monitors playinga reel of media segmentsfeaturing Testino on networksincluding CNN amongst manyothers. Finally reaching thebottom of the stairwell, visitors areintroduced to a fullset of text that covers

the entire teal paintedwall, providing asmall dose of thehistory behind MarioTestinos career.Testino fans are thensteered through aset of glass doorsto the exhibit thathas recently beenadvertised on buses,poles, trains, andbillboards throughoutthe city, making fora truly genuine andexciting experience.

For me, an earlyfascination withcinema developedinto an obsession withphotojournalism. Ilove the immediacyof both and striveto incorporate thatinto my work, saysMario Testino in oneof the many inspiring quotesdisplayed on the colorful wallsof the exhibit.

The end caps of each

hallway in the exhibit featuredbeyond imaginable images ofa few of Testinosproudest pieces,allowing the visitorsmind to explore thedetailing that wasreally set forwardin all of the imagesprinted, framed, anddisplayed over 8 feetin size. Some of themore popular photosthat visitors seemto gather around

included Kate Moss,shot in London forVogue Italia in 2006,and Kate Winslet,shot for V Magazinein 2011. All of thephotos presented inthe exhibit variedin atmosphere,exposure, historicvalue, and meaning,dating from 1996 topresent day. Variousphotos includedworks not only inthe likes of worldfamous magazines,but also served asadvertisements formoguls includingGucci and CalvinKlein. As if thesephotos were notenough to make for anexhilarating exhibit,Testino has alsodisplayed many candidphotos of iconic individualsincluding Anna Wintour,Beyonce Knowles, Donatella

Versace, Oprah Winfrey,Mariah Carey, Tom Ford,Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow,Stella McCartney, Rihanna and

Kate Moss casually enjoyingthe spirits of life and each

others presence, modestlycaptured very candidly andcomfortably within a black and

white photograph. One of themore memorable photographsfeatures famed Vogue editorAnna Wintour in New York,

dated in 2004, walking alongwith her security guards, as

they all smile and appear to bein good company as Wintourstruts along not far behind,

centered in thephoto wearinga white fluffy

dress displayingthe biggest smileof them all.Not too manypho t o g r a ph e r sin our day andage have theability to havethe credibilityof capturingm e a n i n g f u limages of themost beautifuland famousindividuals listedon a roster ofbeen there, donethat. Testinoperfected the craftof allowing hisaudience to takeand develop theirown perspectiveof what theessence of thenight seemed

to entail, which is a uniquevalue that is clearly setthroughout his photographs.

The way I work is intuitive,

from composing and croppingan image down to the sizeof the print and the color andstyle of the frame. I makecertain prints very large to fillthe viewers vision, the way aphotograph can fill entrieson a magazine page, he saidin a food for thought quoteprovided by Testino, which isdisplayed next to a wall sizephoto of Gisele Bundchenwearing a disco sequinedv-neck dress, holding a lightlavender boa, very classically

stepping out of a white Bentley.Other famous faces displayed

throughout the galleryincluded Jenifer Lopez forVanity Fair, Natalie Portmanexposing a different side to hersweet image for V Magazine,Sienna Miller for AmericanVogue, and Kirsten Dunstexploring vintage roots whileposing for V Magazine. Otherpublications that have featuredTestinos work include VogueParis, Dutch Magazine, Chaneladvertisements, and BritishVogue. Visitors to the exhibitmuttered to one another asthey examined the three AndyWarhol inspired halls, whichwere lined with nothing butstar-studded photos. Membersof various age groups andethnicities shared storieswith one another rangingfrom the many photos theyhave seen in print, films theyhave seen the photographysubjects in, to sightingsaround Los Angeles that theyhave heard about throughoutthe years. If one was notinterested in the photographsdisplayed within the walls

of the In Your Face exhibit,the topic of an eaves-droppedconversation would make fora lovely afternoon regardless.

The end product is minebut the work involves a teamof collaborators. I see thetechnical side of photographyas just one aspect of the shoot,like I see hair or makeup. I havean idea and convey it throughother peoples talents, saysanother quote from Testino.From Cuzco to Los Angeles,or Budapest to Shanghai, mynomadic lifestyle exposesme to every kind of fashionfrom every kind of fashionand every point of view. Ithas helped me embrace manycultures, establish my way ofseeing, and provide my viewerswith an exciting journey.

The Mario Testino exhibitwill be open to MFA visitorsfrom October 21, 2012 toFebruary 3, 2013 located inGund Gallery, LG31.

Ell ie Goulding releasesnew album "Halcyon"

Even with her newly tintedpink hair Ellie Goulding hasbecome one of the divas ofthe pop industry. When Lightswas released back in 2010, thetitle track shot Goulding tostardom and wasdeemed one of thehighest-selling poptunes of all time byRolling Stone andBillboard. While thesong still circulatesthe radio today,Ellie's new albumHalcyon, meaning

peaceful, providesthe same anthemsas her debut. Whileexperimenting innew territories,Ellies voice remainsas beautiful as everand she is still ableto maintain theradio-friendly swagthat fans of her firstalbum will praise.

Defining the opening trackDont Say a Word as tentativewould be an understatement.Ellie opens with a swagger

similar to The Weeknd, andshows us a different side thanthe opener of her previouswork. However, the next songMy Blood reassures her fansthat she is still a pop goddess

underneath the dubstep beatsand mysterious hue. If I hadto place a bet, I would put my

money on this track becomingthe next Lights. Its loud,its grandiose, and its so dangcatchy. The pop influencescontinue with the singlesAnything Can Happen andOnly You, both of which will

inspire you to dance and singalong with the simple oohsof both tracks.

Yet once these songs

conclude, Gouldingsexperimentations continue.The title track has Gouldingpushing her limited range toan extent never tried before.While her voice is beautiful,

it has always had just oneregister. Sorry Ms. Goulding,but leave the belting gospelsoul to Adele. At the sametime, while some of the soultracks may fall flat, you canthate her for pushing theenvelope a little; isnt thatwhat a musician is supposed todo? In the cases of Joy and

Dead in the Water,the result is not halfbad.

While Halcyon ismostly Ms. Gouldingplaying aroundwith her sound,there are still manygems to be heard.Even beneath all

the new echoes andtweaks the albumstill seems well puttogether. Each trackflows with graceand consistency; itkeeps the listenerentertained andtapping their feetthrough all 12 songs.Despite this album

coming out last week,I felt I had to give a politenod to Goulding and all thehard work she has done. Asher identity becomes clearer,I can only predict that hernext release will be her bestwork, and that Lights will besubstituted on the radio andbecome a relic of the past.

As a movie goer, its nevergood to hear Oscar buzzin regards to a film youreabout to see. Those two

words ultimately build aninstantaneous expectation.Despite the fact that in recentyears Oscar contenders havehad as many naysayers aspundits backing them up, theexpectations still sit with anaudience as they buy theirmovie tickets and proceed intothe theater. More often thannot these days, audiences go toa film with too much previousknowledge of what theyreabout to see. There are teasersfor teaser trailers, early reviews(guilty) script leaks and clipsgalore. Its difficult to go to afilm truly unspoiled. However,I urge individuals to attemptto not seek out spoilers forthis film because its best seenwith zero expectations andunderstanding. Silver LiningsPlaybook is so successful ofa film because it manages tosurprise you despite playing tosome obvious film tropes.

The narrative focuseson Pat whos just recentlybeen released from a mental

institution. His number onegoal: get his ex-wife back. Hesback living with his parentsand is desperately trying toshift through the debris thathis life has been left in. Whileon his journey to re-establish

himself he meets Tiffany, ayoung woman with troublesof her own, and together theyunknowingly begin to pick upthe mess.

There are two popularroutes that films seem totake when discussing mentalillnesses. Theyll either takethe path of the dramatics orconvey the particular illnessas so debilitating that they canbarely function in everydaylife. Or, they will make it thebutt of the joke.

I dont know which versionis more offensive.

Whats great about thisfilm is that it takes the thirdroute, the one less traveled.Writer and director David O.Russell has written a scriptthat is funny without beingpatronizing, lively, but neverquite loses the gravity ofthe situation. The lines areelevated by the well-timed andoff-the-cuff delivery by the twoleads Jennifer Lawrence andBradley Cooper.

All of the performancesare great, with Robert DeNiroturning in the most impressiveone, seemingly back on hisgame after years of throwaway film roles. DeNiroactually cares again and seeing

him act at the top of his gameis always a treat for audiences.People who know BradleyCooper from The Hangoverfame will be surprised to seehim take on such a serious rolebut should be impressed by theend. Cooper is not only drylyhilarious but is also hugelysympathetic. He and Lawrenceshare tangible chemistry,despite the age gap, and thisis the most fun Lawrence hasgotten to have in a role so far.Although her character is stillmorose and moody, she shineswhen shes allowed to show offher comedic ability.

Directly following the filmI believed that my issue withthe movie was the way thatit seemed to switch in tonearound the half-way mark.For the majority of the moviethat script and tone was darklycomedic and towards the endwas this switch where all of

Blue Man Group amazes Bostonaudiences with new show Soleil BarrosArts Editor

The famed Blue Man Groupmakes their way to Bostonslocal Charles Playhouse toprovide the local hub with a

sweep of entertainment forthe new season. Blue ManGroup is nationally known fortheir raving theatrical shows,which incorporate a varietyof arts and entertainmentincluding music, comedy,excitement, lights, andmultimedia. Offering a uniqueand blissful party atmosphere,Blue Man Group had the wildenergy to allow the audienceto not only enjoy the aspectof watching, but also havethe opportunity to interactand take part in the show.

Just as the clock touched8:03 p.m. following an 8 p.m.show time, blue lights fill theCharles Playhouse as guests inthe first five rows facing thestage and the first set of siderows anticipate the excitementof Blue Man Group in theirclear ponchos. Even in theidle moments as audiencemembers waited for the showto start, a stock ticker screenencouraged guests to yelllike a cowboy while wishingspecial guests happy birthdayand to say in oath not to textyour bff until after the show,

encouraging a fun- lovingatmosphere presented beforethe entertainment even began.

I asked before the showwhat the Blue Man Group wasand no one could really honestlygive me a good answer to thequestion, and I see why now,said Stephania Cifranceso,sophomore at BentleyUniversity. Its because theycannot be composed into onetitle. They feature educationalmaterial, improv, live music,and a unique type of comedy.

A neon set of three-dimensional band memberssupported the Blue Menthroughout the course of theshow, creating eclectic andsupportive undertones tomake for an amazing musicalexperience. Throughoutvarious points, selectedaudience members were notonly invited up on to the stageto take part in skits, but a fewlucky members of the audiencereceived live memorabiliaincluding a painting and post-dinner Twinkie doggie bag.

It was unreal, they arereally good at what they do.

I saw them a few years ago,so this is my second timearound, said Charlie Morris,sophomore at Boston College.I didnt expect that it wasgoing to be this amazingthe second time around.

Members of Blue Man Groupturned the audience onto anelectric level, when there wasan instructional skit teachingvisitors the correct etiquetteof how to correctly party at a

rock concert. After getting theparty started,Blue Man Grouponly continued

to amaze theaudience untilthe very lastfew seconds,of the show.This delightfuland colorfulperformance wasnot only a nightof entertainmentbut was solelyan experiencethat will neverbe forgotten.

Justin Timberlake revealed a new song during hiswedding to Jessica Biel last Friday in southern Italy, accordingto The Huffington Post.

The couple was on-and-off dating for five years beforethe seaside marital ceremony. The event was kept secret, andeven friends were not aware of what was happening until theyarrived.

It was magical, Timberlake said to People Magazine.It was an unforgettable evening.

Although there were rumors he would be performingthe popular *NSYNC hit Its Gonna Be Me, he went insteadwith an original tune he had written especially for his bride.The Roots drummer ?uestlove DJed the event and pulled ahandful of songs from Timberlakes solo song catalog, thoughhe stayed away from any *NSYNC hits.

Cherrytree Records artist Far East Movement has

released a new song For All in support of, and inspired by,President Obamas campaign.

We wanted to create an anthem around theinspirational ideals that people around the world are entitledto, no matter your race, religion, sexual preference, politicalor social views, said Kev Nish of Far East Movement. We usethe crowd at our concerts as the example. When youre at ashow experiencing live music, no matter who youre next to,youre experiencing that magic together.

Various celebrities are featured in the song, includingSnoop Dogg and Russell Simmons. The video will debut onThursday, featuring cameos by Kal Penn, George Lopez, andothers.

The song was created to spread hope and unite peopleto create a better world and use their voice in the campaign.The band has long been a huge supporter of Rock the Vote,

Massachusetts native GarthDonovan was in tow, andwith him, his most recent filmPhillip the Fossil. His mostrecent venture into filmmakinghas resulted in this film beingshown at SXSW, (South bySouth West) a festival thathighlights independent films.Donovan stayed to introducethe film and to hold a questionand answer session afterwards.

The film is about a manwho is pushing 30 (although itappears he may be lying) whostill hangs around with the

high school crowd, none tooready to grow up.Youre going to know

right off the bat that thisis a character study, saidDonovan.

Its true, like mostindependent films, Phillip theFossilfocuses on the everydaylife of an everyday man andthe ups and downs that gowith it. The film's three mainnarratives focus on him and hisinability to accept adulthood;Nick, a young man battlingpost-traumatic stress aftera tour overseas, and a third

The theme of the night wasthat in order to make movies,

you need to make movies.Simple enough, although Idont know if I can agreewith such a brisk viewpoint,but the purpose behind thestatement is clear. You cannotjust decide you want to be infilm, you have to want it witheverything you have, you needto put all of your time andeffort into it, and you need tobe prepared for a long stint ofbeing absolutely broke.

in allowing Phillip to wade inthe gray matter. Although, it

appears that as the film closesits ambiguous as to whetheror not audiences have reachedthe point where they should berooting for him.

Donovan spoke of howmuch hes recently learned tolove the documentary style offilmmaking using the shakycam. I cant say I agree withthese techniques. I feel likethe shaky cam has run itscourse and only results inheadaches. The most recentdocumentaries that Ive seen(Bill Cunningham New York,

We Were Here, Senna) allseemed to enforce the rule of atripod: if you have one, use it.

An aspect that Donovangot completely right was thecinematography that caughtthe natural beauty of wherehe was filming. With such alittle budget there would beseemingly no fancy technologythat would help enhance thefilm, yet with the natural lightand the settings that they shotin, it made no matter. And inone particular scene towardsthe end, a young man sittingin a boat and is truly effective.

Was it an amazing film? No.However, there is somethingso admirable about anindividual deciding what theywant to do with their life andchasing after it without fear.Its scary to think of going intofilm. Its a daunting prospectwith more hurtles in the waythan openings. So I must rootfor Donovan for being braveenough to risk a lot in order todo what hes passionate about.

However, looking back, itseems like it may have been afantastic directorial choice by

ORussell. At the beginning ofthe film Pat is low and devoidof affection and is trying hisbest to better himself. Hislook on life is bleak, hes thenarrative were followingand what he sees is what theaudience sees. The audienceis seeing the dullness thatPat is experiencing. However,as Pat begins to improve, theaudience takes notice by thelightening of the tone, thebrighter lighting of the scenes,

the fact that it seems as ifthe color has begun to pop.If purposeful, I applaud thetechnique; if not, the tonalshift really should have beenaddressed.

Hitting theaters officiallyNovember 21, this film is aworthwhile theater visit. It has

one of the best climatic scenesthis year that is so joyousyoud think it was another filmaltogether. The acting is great,the direction is great andwhile the writing has somepacing flaws, it isnt enoughto detract from the rest of thefilm. I wouldnt say that thisis the best film of the year,Id put at least another fiveahead of it. Yet it is one of thesweetest and one of the mostsurprising. See it and decide

for yourself.

that the staff can enjoy Hal-loween for the first time infour years. That makes thisour last issue before electionday (well return Wednesday,November 7). With that said,it bears repeating that this isone of the most crucial elec-tions in recent history, as ourworld is rapidly changing eachday. While some countrieshave changed power and re-constructed their governmentsover the last four years, hereat home citizens protest forchange but opt to hang backwhen change is a possibility.

Americans are either angry ortheyre too apathetic. Lazinessand ignorance regarding ourgovernment is burning anyhope of a positive move for-ward.

We were disappointed tosee the vast number of emptyseats at yesterdays studentdebate between the SuffolkRepublicans, Libertarians, andDemocrats. Not only do stu-dents seem lackluster aboutthis countrys future, but oneof the panelists in the debatehadnt even heard of candidate

Gary Johnson until the day of.This is extremely unfortunatefor a school directly acrossfrom the building where oneof the candidates worked forfour years. Scratch that. This isextremely unfortunate for ourgeneration.

There are things calledcalled priorities. Seriously, thisis a disgrace. Why does it seemlike so many students just

dont care? Help your fellowAmericans. Do you think your

vote doesnt count at all? Great-- its people like you that letour government sell out toWall Street. Theres a third-party debate on as we writethis. If youre not watching it-- how do you know youre vot-ing for the right candidate?

Realize that were living onEarth during a very importanttime. The Internet is connect-ing the world, allowing ideasto spread faster than ever be-fore. Dont abuse it -- use itto better yourself. In the longrun, realize that were the firstgeneration to really grow up

with it -- do we really want ourlegacy to be one of dumbed-down reality television andexploitations? We here at TheJournal urge you all to edu-cate yourselves in the comingweeks before the election. I know Paul Ryan has hisfans. I know everyone has theirrepublic from Alexander TheGreat to Hitler to Bush andeveryone in between, but justbecause they pull their weightin the world doesnt meanI have to respect them. I amsaying this because last weekRep. Paul Ryan orchestratedthe worst photo-op of all time.I know that is a pretty boldstatement, but Ryan beingsuch an upstanding citizen,

and the fact that hes vyingfor the position of the VicePresident of these UnitedStates just boils my blood.You see, Ryan decided to visita soup kitchen at St. VincentDePaul in Youngstown, Ohio.

He then volunteered histime to help clean dishes withhis family. The only problemis that Ryan came at a spur-of-the-whim for a photo-opand he arrived after mostof the people had alreadyleft. He was washing disheswith his family dishes thathad already been washed!

Another large issuewith Ryans random act ofkindness is that St.Vincentsprides itself in being a faith-based organization with bylawsstopping it from hostingpolitical candidates, and thatthe visit jeopardized donationsfrom private individuals. BrianJ. Antal, president of theMahoning County St. VincentDe Paul Society in Youngstownsaid hes already receivedcalls from donors threateningto pull their funding, which

could really hurt St. Vincents.To make matters worse, Antal

said they were unwelcomeguests who only appearedfor a short interval of time.

Now you are probablypondering why I am callingthis the worst photo-op of alltime. I say this because of theblatant face slapping effectthat this has. I understandeveryone under the sun hastheir own photo-ops, but thefact that Ryan didnt even careto try to defend himself, thefact that he just didnt care iswhat truly scares me. This actis just another act by someone

who doesnt care about hisactions nor the response hellreceive from the public. Thismakes me wonder what trulymatters to Paul Ryan. What ishe willing to lie about as longas he thinks that he is savingface? Chris Maloney, Ohiocommunications director forthe Romney campaign, said thevisit by Ryan was plannedand meant to showcase thehard working class spirit.

Our campaign andCongressman Ryan werepleased to bring attentionto the meaningful charitable

contributions the St. VincentDe Paul Society makes topeople in need, Maloney said.

Of course after this incidentcaught the attention of themass media, Ryans people aretrying to spin the story that hedid in fact clean dirty disheswhile he was there. Once again,they are missing the point ofthe story. You dont spray afew pots and pans and expectto look like humanitarianof the year. No Paul Ryan,you will not deceive me.

Question three onMassachusetts' 2012 ballot iswhether medicinal marijuanawould be legal in the stateof Massachusetts. This wouldeliminate the states criminaland civil penalties related tothe medical use of marijuanaand allow patients who meet adoctors approved conditions to obtain medicinal marijuana.

In most states, when asimilar law becomes enacted,the legislation for medicinalmarijuana being permittedalongside it also comes fromthe states acceptance of stateregulated medical marijuanadispensaries. The only otheralternative to dispensarieswould be for patients to growtheir own marijuana, which ismost likely not going to happen.

There are many who supportand oppose question threehere in Massachusetts. Forexample, the Massachusetts

Chief of Police Associationopposes the measure, statingthey believethe legislation

is written tooloosely as towho will beable to receivethis medicineand for whatr e a s o n s .S h o c k i n g ,right? Thecops areagainst it.

The library on collegecampuses can be one of thebusiest buildings during theday. It is the place where peoplecome to hangout betweenclasses and for people to escapefrom loud distractions tostudy. For me, it is the place Ialways go to do my homework.There are many things I enjoy,

but there are issues thatneed to be addressed as well.

73 Tremont Caf is one ofthe places to eat on campus.Do not get me wrong they havemouthwatering salads andsandwiches, but what reallygets to me is the way the cafis set up. It is so hard to geta salad or sandwich becausethe lines are always long andthe layout of the caf makesit hard for people to movearound when there are longlines of people everywhere.

I think that it would be more

efficient if the double doors onthe back wall by the condimentcounter could be opened sothat the line wrapped aroundthe side of the wall instead ofright through the middle ofthe caf. This would allow thepeople who want sandwichesto get to that stationeasily and more efficiently.

The next level up is the mainfloor of the library. I think itis useful that the library has

laptops that students can rentout. By doing this, it allows thestudent to go to whatever partof the library they want in orderto work on their assignments.It also allows the students,who need to use a computerduring the day, the choice notto bring a laptop to campusand have to lug it aroundall day. The free printing isalways a plus, too. The onething I wish Suffolk had onall their research computers is

Microsoft Word. This would bemore helpful for students sothey can type notes and emailthem to themselves insteadof having to write notes orprint mass amounts of paper.

The top two levels of thefour level caf and libraryare study rooms and otheropen areas to study. I thinkthese levels are valuable tothe student body to use. Thetables and desks that areprovided have an immenseamount of study room onthem; I am glad they are bigand bulky. It is also handy thatall of the desks and tables haveoutlets built into them so onedoes not have to walk aroundtrying to find a desk that isclose to an outlet. In addition,it is enjoyable that much of thefurniture in the library is new.

When I sit in the library Ihave noticed that there seemsto be little study space. Peoplehave to sit on the floor to dotheir work if there are not

enough tables or desks. I amcurious to know if all of thesebooks have been used in the pastten years. If not, maybe we canremove some of them to makespace for more study areas.

Suffolk also has a greatwriting center located on thethird floor; I have found thewriting center helpful withmy papers this semester.There are a good amountof people to choose from tohelp a student work on their

papers. It is also helpful that

their majors vary: some arejournalism majors while othersare majoring in English orsociology. This is a good wayto match your type of paper upwith someone that has a majorthat would benefit the most.

Lastly, the other issue Iwant to address is the volumeof the library. The fourth flooris supposed to be the quietfloor, but some students comeup to this floor to work ongroup projects. To me, this just

means that the library needs

This is a law that obviouslyonly Massachusetts residentscan vote on, and I believe it willbe good for the presidentialelection as well. Many peoplewho do not want to vote maybe persuaded to go to the pollsand vote for this measure,and in doing so will find thecandidates running for office.Im hoping that non-voters whoshow up to vote for questionthree will spare the extra 60seconds and gaze their eyesfurther down that same pageand vote for the politicalcandidates as well. the disappointment we haveseen over the last four years.We witnessed in Romneythe powerful presence ofleadership, confidence, andstrength; the exact messagewe want the United States toportray to the rest of the world.

Mr. President, America hasnot dictated to othernations. America hasfreed other nations from

dictatorship, Romney states.This reflects the messagethat America has fought tospread across the world fromthe day our country was born:a message that has becomeblurry to most due to ourcurrent Presidents actions.

Obamas foreign policyhas been weak; it is basedoff achieving peace throughappeasement and has sent a

rather pathetic message toour enemies as well as raisedgreat concern in our allies.When Obama claimed hisadministration had imposedthe toughest sanctionson Iran, he misled you.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen,chairwoman of the House ofForeign Affairs committee,stated, We had no help writingthe Iran sanctions bill fromthe administration, nothingin fact, if Obama had any rollat all, it was to slow it downand make the final version

weaker, and now Iran is closerthan ever to a nuclear bomb.Romney made it clear to the

American people that thesesanctions would be tightenedin his presidency and that hewould not send a message ofweakness to our enemies, orour allies, but send a messageof strength and power.Romney refocused the eyesof Americans from a blurry,unsettling future to a clear andprosperous new beginning.

Romneys momentum fromthe first debate has beencarried consistently to the final

debate. He proved tonight thathe is a competent man whocan be trusted with one of themost powerful and demandingjobs in the world. He displayedhis competence by provingthat he possesses knowledge

of every aspect of the globe.Romneys comments on

strengthening trade in LatinAmerica reflected a huge

opportunity for the futureof America: an opportunityObama failed to mention. Thedirection of the statementsmade tonight reflect theambitions of each candidatesplan; Obamas statements werebased on a very small scalewhile Romneys statementsfocused on a much larger scale.Romney focused his statementson his plan rather than Obamawho focused his statementson childishly attemptingto discredit Romney.
