Once upon a time, there was a quiet village. It was peaceful.Villagers chatted and children played in the street. At the Chinese New Year, a horrifying monster called Nianwoke up in the cave. Monster Nian felt hungry so it ate many plants and animals. One night, Monster Nian went to the village. Help ! The villagers were frightened. All of them ran away from thevillage. A man said, Help! Monster Nian is coming! Every Chinese New Year, Monster Nian came to the village,until one day One day, a girl wanted to return the village to take hermoney but she met Monster Nian. She picked up her redlantern. The girl was very scared but Nian was scared too. The girlsaw it and ran back to the village to tell the village head. The village head was glad and said, Great. We find Nians weakness
The village head was glad and said, Great! We find Niansweakness. Let us stick some red paper on the door. Weshould beat the drum and light firecrackers to scare theMonster Nian. Next day, Monster Nian came back
Next day, Monster Nian came back. It saw the red paper andheard the drum and firecrackers. It was very afraid so it ranaway and never came back. Now, people stick red paper, and light the firecrackers atChinese New Year from generations to generations.
