X refers to a group of landmark reforms in Iran that came about in 1963 and were the brainchild of the then Shah of Iran. 19 elements were introduced over a period of 15 years, including Extending the Right to Vote to Women, Nationalization of all Water Resources, Free education and Price stabilization. The program was actually aimed at Iran’s peasantry, a class the Shah hoped to gain as an ally to thwart the threat of the increasingly hostile middle class. X was named for the fact that it was totally bloodless.

Just name X, which shares its name with an equally significant event elsewhere that began in 1970.

One of the founders of modern geology, Adam Sedgwick, after studying rock samples in the area pictured, coined a term to denote the geologic period between 542 million years and 488.3 million years ago. The term is derived from the classical name for the area, which is a Latinised form of the local name for the area.

Either name the term or gimme the classical name of the area.

In the United States, to win a libel suit, a public figure must show not only that the offending statement is false, but also that the offending person either knew it to be false or did not care whether it was true or not. It was on this basis that a Chicago jury ruled in 1989 in favour of X (in a $50 million suit filed by Y), who in his 1983 book, “The Price of Power: Kissinger in the Nixon White House” had alleged that Y, who was Prime Minister of a nation from 1977 to 1979, received $20,000 a year from the C.I.A. during the Johnson and Nixon administrations in exchange for information on the nation’s foreign policy and domestic politics. This information was the reason for the hard-line policy by the US against Y’s nation in the context of a early 1970s event.

Name X and Y.

In August 1995, 2 individuals, Niels Christian Nielsen and Peter Bleach met at Copenhagen with a demand from the former for 2,500 assault rifles and 1.5 million rounds of ammunition. In September 1995, the men met again in Bangkok, where the order was reduced to 500 assault rifles. They finally succeeded in organising papers which persuaded the sale of these weapons from Bulgaria. Nielsen was a devoted ‘monk’ of a famous spiritual movement, a photo of the HQ of which was recovered from the vehicle that carried these weapons and helped in zero-ing into the purpose behind the weapons.

One of the Amazon reviews about the 2002 book pictured – “In his new role as TV commentator (and in his short-lived run as Davis Cup captain) he has tried to make the unlikely switch from tennis enfant terrible to tennis elder statesman. Judging by the welcome he has received from both the cognoscenti and the American public, it has been a largely successful transition”.
