If you have a visit scheduled with one of our staff or volunteers and you do not respond to a knock at the door we have procedures in place that we need to follow. These standard procedures are acted upon if you do not respond to a call for

example, a driver calling to take you to a medical appointment or a scheduled Domestic Assistance service.

In the event that a client does not respond to a scheduled visit actions will usually include:

�Knock and shout at the doors and/or windows

�Check the boundaries of the property and/or check with neighbours (if applicable and appropriate)

�Telephoning the client

�Telephoning the office

�Telephoning emergency contacts listed on client file

�Notifying the Police who will then initiate the appropriate action.

In instances that are escalated to the last point—notifying the Police– please be aware that a police officer may force an entry into your home. Neither the Police or TMCCA are responsible for any repair costs to due to damage of property. If you

know that you will not be home for a scheduled visit, it is in your best

interests to notify the TMCCA office in advance to prevent unnecessary

(and potentially costly) actions being implemented.

If, however, you do not wish us to implement the procedure as described above, it is your responsibility to provide alternative instructions for us to

follow. Please call the office and speak to a member of staff at your

earliest convenience so that our records can be updated.

You will find advice on planning your emergency kit, preparing your home, staying safe, and ensuring vulnerable persons are

looked after as well as your pets.

An Interesting Story—

Transport on Two Wheels by Pauline Kenyon (TMCCA client) Being young and energetic, and needing to save on a meagre salary, I found it easier on the purse to travel on my gearless bicycle. I also needed an outlet for my exuberant energy. In 1950’s England, only the expensive new bicycles had three gears, mine was an old second or third-hand bike with a much used puncture mending outfit. I enjoyed the challenge of cycling up steep hills by standing on the pedals one foot at a time to gain better leverage. It would be a failure to walk uphill pushing my bike! Long journeys of 40klm cross-country enabled me to keep in contact with friends and family who welcomed my un-planned visits on a sunny day. Most Youth Hostellers were long distant cyclists and some rode in all weathers. I braved the French roads riding on the right with a Youth Hostel-organized two-week summer tour for ten cyclists. Once our stamina and legs were accustomed to long hours of cycling , we enjoyed the beauty and variety of French countryside, villages and small towns. Our planned route included Paris, but I found it disappointing. Apart from a museum and the Eiffel Tower, we had very little time for other city sight seeing. We were lost several times with our leaders inad-equate Paris map and one day we cycled an unplanned 90klm, leaving us miserable with sore muscles. The next day by necessity was a wasted quiet day! I wanted to buy a Lambretta scooter, so by living cheaply I was able to buy one. It was bright red, and revving up gave me a gleeful feeling of power. I could travel in comparative comfort much faster, trying not to exceed the speed limits and reaching destinations sooner. I planned to go Youth Hostelling in Scotland where motor-ised members were permitted. My school teacher friend Hilary and I had six weeks of summer holidays, and she decided to join me. When we set off, she had owned her Vespa one week and I my Lambretta for five weeks. We packed with stacks of camping gear and food tied on luggage racks and running boards. On our first day northwards, an hours travel from home, my Lambretta was pulling weakly. We had to stop, and were wondering what to do—two ignorant scooterists taking a big leap into the unknown. Five minutes later, an AA (Automobile Association) van on patrol arrived looking for motorists needing assistance! We joined the AA immediately. He examined my new red Lambretta and diagnosed a blocked air intake. I had stuffed my raincoat under my seat on top of it. Raincoat removed . Problem solved. AA membership organised. All in half an hour. Our beginners luck made us feel that the world was at our feet. We camped where we could while still in England. Some days later, rain was pouring heavily. Because the nearest Youth Hostel was full, we found suitable shelter in a small barn with straw on which to lay our sleeping bags. The two scooters blocked the two doors to stop the noisy sheep from entering. We were almost asleep when we heard someone coughing and approaching our shelter. Fear gripped me, my heart quickening - but the footsteps stopped and the person coughed instead of speaking. Suddenly a second person coughed too. What could we do? Our scooters gave us away. There was a long silence, Then more coughing, suddenly Hilary exclaimed “it’s the sheep coughing!” We laughed with relief and were able to relax in our beds of straw and sleeping bags! After a noisy night of sheep baa-aa-ing and coughing, we packed up and continued our journey in the rain. In winter back at home, scootering in wet, painfully cold weather necessitated wearing many layers of cumber-some protective clothing. I looked and felt like a spaceman. Yet, within half an hour, I suffered extreme cold all over. The Lambretta was forced to retire to the garage every long winter. Back to public transport again. Buying a car being a financial impossibility, an adventurous solution was staring me in the face! Hearing about sunny Australia from Youth Hostellers gave me the incentive and courage to leave cold wet Eng-land using the ten pound assisted passage offered by the Australian Government. In 1966 I arrived in Sydney by ship with my Lambretta, two medium suitcases and my sewing machine. Unfortunately, this relaxed freedom I had enjoyed on my scooter in the English summer was not always repeat-ed in Australia. Some aggressive motorists ignored my presence and drove dangerously close beside me as if I and my Lambretta were transparent. This made me vulnerable and terrified, especially when there was only a metal barrier on my left, instead of a grassy verge for escape. I survived and saved up for a car. Two years later, I bought an old Standard Ten from a friend, and sold the Lambretta. Two years later I married my friend and he got that car back again!

TMCCA were privileged to receive an award from Carers QLD Australia in October. We were awarded the cate-gory winner for ’GREAT EMPLOYER’ -Gold Coast Region. Client Support Officer and Program Coordinator Laura Hartmann attended the award

ceremony on behalf of TMCCA.

Celebrating working at TMCCA for 10 years, Ann Williams, a loyal and dedicated employee who has worked in a number of different areas

within the organisation during that time.

We acknowledge the effort and support that has been provided to so many clients and the

great contributions that she has made.

The story of the film is interspersed with dance numbers choreo-graphed by Gene Kelly and set to Gershwin's music. Songs and mu-sic include "I Got Rhythm", "I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise", " 'S Wonderful", and "Love is Here to Stay". The climax of the film is

The attendees of our weekly client support group “Friday Friendship” the staff and volunteers that deliv-er the program have been very busy in the past few

months putting together a ‘Fun Foods’ book.

The book consists of recipe contributions from each person involved within the group. The recipes are family favourites and have a generous mix of sweet

and savoury dishes from across the globe.

These books are being sold to raise funds for TMCCA

to help supplement the government funding and

assist us in continuing to deliver home services.

With 28 individual and tantalising recipes, why not purchase a copy for your bookshelf and also a copy for

friends and family to enjoy.

Starting anew in January 2018 a meeting of carers will take place and be sponsored by TMCCA. Please come along and help start a group for all who could do with a little light relief and a smile or two and mould a group to call your own. The only criteria being that the person in your life has a recognised Mental Illness, no matter whether they reside near or far.

November Wednesday Outing

A group of clients enjoyed a fabulous trip in the wonderful Scenic Rim countryside. The weather was kind and made the day all the more enjoyable. Our tour guide Peter, was very approachable, knowledgeable and so enthusiastic about the product(s) it was a joy to listen. Items produced and available for sale in the gift shop included skin care products and soaps, gelato, milk, cheese and meat prod-ucts. With many other opportunities being explored for fu-ture development. It was good to support a Scenic Rim organisation in its infancy having only just been started in June 2016. If you get an opportunity to visit, its well worth the trip. The lunch of Moroccan Camel Tagine, was worth the trip alone!

I am just a little mad!

I went to the grocery store earlier for some

nibbles. For some bizarre reason I chose to go

through the self service checkout line and I

accidentally dropped my $20 note. The bloke in

front of me picked it up. I thanked him and told

him that it was mine and he said, "The things

found on earth are kept by the collector," and

walked just away!!

I looked at the person behind me who looked just

as shocked as me, and I said, "Do I look like a

cash point? Give me back my money!"

He had the nerve to just walk away. I defiantly

followed him into the car park. He was clearly

walking at a fast pace to get away from me. When

he got to his car he put the bags on the ground to

open the boot. I was super angry at this point! I

decided that his "finders keepers" rule just pre-

sented the perfect opportunity for retribution, so

I grabbed his shopping bags, laughed, and then

said "The things found on earth are kept by the

collector!"

I walked to my car. I was nervous, mad, but had a

sense of satisfaction all at the same time:

1 chicken

2 salmon steaks

A nice little selection of cheeses

Milk, eggs and bacon

4 tins of baked beans

And.....

2 bottles of red wine!

I thought... WOW! Karma did good! Not bad for $20.
