A couple of interesting things I learned on the tour: One: Hawaii was not a State at the point the Japanese bombed it. Two: The March of Dimes was began by President Roosevelt to raise money for the children polio patients that were being treated in Warm Springs. After the tour we went to “Mac’s BBQ” it’s behind the little downtown area. We actually ate outside at the picnic tables because it was so nice and actually got to meet Mac (when Charlie handed him his plate to throw away, ha!). Mac is a character and likes to kid with his custom- ers, so stop by if you are ever in Warm Springs, but be prepared for him to give you a hard time, that is if you’re wearing an Auburn hat, anyway, no matter what, though his BBQ is good and especially the Brunswick stew. I thank everyone for coming and hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. SAFETY OFFICER’S ARTICLE

Handlebars – Body Position

They’re not just for steering.

Why are my hands tingling? Why are my shoulderstight? And why does my neck ache? Many of us don’tacknowledge these symptoms and continue to ride. Ina nut shell every part of the body affects the otherparts: Fingers affect the wrist, which affect theelbow, which affect the shoulders and so on.

So after I broke all the fancy medical terms down, Iwas left with these crucial bits of advice:

1. My wrists shouldn’t twist and stay as straight aspossible in relation to my forearm.2. Elbows should point down as much as possibleand hang rather than be held up.3. Shoulders need to be relaxed and dropped ratherthan suspended or flexed while riding.4. My reach should be reduced so I don’t roll or liftmy shoulders to grab the handlebars.5. I should steer with my arms, not my neck, shoul-ders or back.

Armed with this anatomy lesson I hope your next ridewill be as comfortable as possible.

Jim Byrd, Safety Officer

Are You Ready

I am sitting here in front of my computer…waitingon inspiration. Writers’ block on the day of B.K.’sHOGWASH Article deadline is not a fun thing. Some might say it is punishment for waiting until thevery last minute to sit down and actually write it.Maybe it is just because all I can think about is“whoo hoo……riding season is here!” So, are youready? Have you checked your tire pressure andwear? Leaks? Fluid levels? Loose parts? No? Wellwhy not? Get out there and check those bikes out andlet’s get ready to ride. Make Jim Byrd proud of you!We have a lot of great rides coming up this year sokeep an eye on the HOGWASH and the weekly e-mail blast. LOH will be having an LOH SundaySocial & Ride every other month. All chaptermembers are welcome. So join us, we would loveto have you.
