This past Saturday morning, our parish school celebrated the beginning of another year with a free breakfast. Parishioners, parents, alumni, students and staff gathered to review the state of our school through the lens of the Catholic School advantage. Generally, attending Catholic School elementary school increases scores on academic achievement tests and increases the likelihood of high school and college graduation. The achievement gap between genders, race, and socio-economic status is smaller in Catholic elementary schools. Students from Catholic Schools present significantly improved character formation as measured by a variety of factors including voting, honesty, participation in pro-life activities, attending church, a better understanding of diverse views, more committed to service as adults, and other prosocial and pro-ecclesial effects. As was reported at our breakfast, Christ the King Catholic School is working diligently to ensure these advantages are available to as many of our families as possible. Recognizing that it is important to start building the advantage at a young age, the focus starts in the younger grades with Prekindergarten and Kindergarten. Over the summer, with the help of parishioners, the Kindergarten room was expanded. We currently have comfortably full classrooms, with 20 more students enrolled than last year. In addition to financial donations through the SONrise Society, the state of Arizona tax credits ensure enrollment is open to everyone regardless of parents’ home language and/or socio economic status. At our breakfast, a recent alumnus reported on the value of her elementary years as she was able to hit the ground running in high school. She knew how to work hard, how to study, and understands the value of always getting her work done. She relies on and gives glory to God for her strength. A graduate from 12 years ago spoke about the community of support as she navigated high school, college, marriage and parenthood. She can trace her success back to her start here in Kindergarten at Christ the King Catholic School. Our priests, Fr. Rolyn and Fr. Scott ask for your support in continuing this Catholic School advantage for the families in the East Valley. As a successful ministry of the parish, with over 50 years of history, we are honored by the gifts that have been received by the school. Please continue to support the students and the school with your time, prayer and resources. Principal

Shelley Conner Principal

PRAYER OF MERCY

Lord Jesus Christ,

You have taught us to be Merciful like the Heavenly Father. Open my eyes to

see your loving face, and my ears to hear your words that I will be saved.

You are the visible face of the merciful and forgiving Father. Let

everyone who comes to the Church and the ministers feel sought after,

loved and forgiven by God. Grant that by the power of the Spirit I may become an apostle of mercy and

forgiveness to the weak and sinners through the intercession of Mary,

Mother of Mercy. Ame n.

ORACIÓN DE

MISERICORDIA

Señor Jesucristo, Tú nos has enseñado a ser

misericordiosos como el Padre del cielo. Abre mis ojos a tu rostro

Amen.

Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see your face. Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see.

Open my ears, Lord. Help me to hear your voice. Open my ears, Lord. Help me to hear.

And the first shall be last, and our eyes are opened, and we’ll hear like never before. And we’ll speak in new ways, and we’ll see God’s face in places we’ve never known.

Open my heart, Lord. Help me to love like you. Open my heart, Lord. Help me to love.

I live within You. Deep in Your heart, O Love. I live within You. Rest now in me.

Lord, I come, I confess, bowing here I find my rest Without You I fall apart, You're the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, Oh, I need You, every hour I need You My one defense, my righteousness. Oh God, how I need You

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more. Where grace is found is where You are And where You are, Lord, I am free, holiness is Christ in me

So, teach my song to rise to You When temptation comes my way And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You, Jesus, You're my hope and stay

TWENTY-S IXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 25 , 2016

COMMUNION ANTIPHON: Cf. Ps 119 (118): 49-50 Remember your word to your servant, O Lord, by which you have given me hope.

This is my comfort when I am brought low.

Michael John Poirer © 1992 Peartree

I will be, I will be, I will be strength for the journey.

There is a road meant for you to travel. Narrow and steep is the Shepherd’s way. And as you say “yes,” letting me guide you, I will be strength for the journey.

There is a cross meant for you to carry, There is a cross meant for you alone. And as you bow down in humble surrender, I will be strength for the journey.

And how many times have you doubted my word? How many times must I call your name? And as you say, “yes,” letting Me love you, I will be strength for the journey.

Tom Booth © 2016

I was hungry, and you gave me, all that I was hungry for. I was thirsty, and you gave me, all that I was thirsting for. I was a stranger, and you welcomed me.

I was naked, and you clothed me, with mercy and dignity Sick and broken, and you gave me, your time and your listening

I was in prison and you came to me.

Feed my lambs, if you love me. Tend my sheep, if you love me.

Persecuted, tired and homeless, no where to lay my head Man and woman, child and aged, with no one to call a friend. I was lost, and you rescued me.

When did we see you, hungry or thirsty, a stranger or lacking clothes? When were you naked, sick or imprisoned, when did we not visit you?

Whatever you did to the least of these, whatever you did to the least of these, you did to me.

Feed my lambs, if you love me. Tend my sheep, if you love me. Feed my sheep, if you love me.

I am hungry, I am thirsty, I am a stranger, I am naked, I am sick, I am in prison, persecuted … and you welcomed me.

Brenton Brown ©1998 Vineyard

Over all the earth you reign on high Ev’ry mountain stream ev’ry sunset sky But my one request, Lord my only aim

Is that You reign in me again.

Lord reign in me reign in Your power Over all my dreams in my darkest hour

You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again.

Over ev’ry thought, over ev’ry word May my life reflect the beauty of my Lord.

‘Cause You mean more to me than any earthly thing, So won’t you reign in me again?

Michael John Poirier © 1989 Peartree
