Thank you for your interest in the Sixth Form at The Blue Coat School.

Our Sixth Form is one of the largest in the city, with about 190 students in Year 12 and 170 in Year 13.  Our

students can choose freely from 18 A level courses to achieve nearly any subject combination of their choice.

They enjoy the highest quality teaching from subject specialist teachers who challenge and stretch them in an

environment where everybody supports each other’s learning.

Academic development is just one part of life at

Blue Coat.  Our curriculum includes built in

opportunities for enrichment and personal

development so that all of students achieve and

grow into impressive young adults.  Our pastoral

system complements these opportunities by

meeting the needs of each of our sixth formers

through individually tailored care, guidance and

support.

The Sixth Form at Blue Coat provides a wealth of

other opportunities.  Sixth formers enjoy a wide

range of trips which enhance their academic knowledge and understanding and their personal development.  We

provide a wealth of opportunities for sixth formers to lead and get involved in extra‐curricular societies and

fundraising projects.  Students step up to the challenge of giving leadership and support to the younger year

groups.  They act as great role models by planning, organising and leading activities for younger members of the

school community.

Our students achieve great outcomes year on year.  In 2016, they achieved the schools highest ever proportion of

A*‐B grades and the great majority went on to the destination of their choice.  You can read more about our

students achievements and their next steps in this booklet.

We are extremely proud of our students and the ambition, commitment, initiative and creativity they show.  We

hope that this brief introduction to the Sixth Form at The Blue Coat School helps you shape your future to be as

successful as theirs.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Application  The application process for Sixth Form places for September 2017 begins on 24 January 2017.   On that date, information, guidance and application forms for The Blue Coat School Sixth Form will be available from the School website (www.bluecoatschoolliverpool.org.uk).    Application forms must be completed online and must be received by the School by 4.00pm on Friday 10 February 2017.

Advisory Meetings and Conditional Offers  Our Sixth Form is heavily oversubscribed. All applications will be considered carefully taking into account the information provided.  We look for students who will thrive at the school because of their academic aptitude and attitude to learning.    If you are likely to be a suitable candidate for The Blue Coat School Sixth Form we will email you to invite you to an advisory meeting where you will discuss your application with a member of staff.   Advisory meetings take place after school during March and April.  Please tell us via the online application form if there are any dates that you cannot attend.    We will inform you whether or not you have a conditional offer by Thursday 13 April 2017.  If you are successful, we will endeavour to timetable your first three or four choices but very occasionally this may not be possible.  Consequently, we ask you to prioritise your choices and give a reserve choice.  We design our timetable to meet your choices, however, once the timetable has been finalised in June, any changes to your choices are only possible if they fit the timetable. It is important that you give careful thought to these choices as there is no guarantee they can be changed at a later date.  Results Day  Applicants with conditional offers must have their Sixth Form place and choice of courses confirmed on GCSE results day, which this year is on Thursday 24 August 2017.   On that date we will ask applicants with conditional offers to bring their results into school.  Applicants who are unable to attend in person must make arrangements for the school to receive copies of your results.    If we do not receive copies of your results on Results Day then we cannot guarantee you a place.  Appeals  The Blue Coat School only makes conditional offers for places and consequently, there is no appeal process at this stage.   If you do not receive an offer of a place, but achieve the necessary GCSE results to be admitted and are still interested in joining The Blue Coat School, please come to the School on GCSE Results Day in August to register your interest.

At this point there may still be a limited number of places available.  Applicants registering an interest at this stage must be ready to provide their GCSE results and any other information that will assist us in deciding if The Blue Coat School is the best place to study A levels.  Decisions are usually made in the days after results day.
