SB 2042 MULTIPLE SUBJECT CREDENTIAL PROGRAM OPTIONSu Multiple Subject - no emphasis (English learner authorization

embedded- that means you can teach English learners in your own classroom)

u Multiple Subject with Bilingual Authorization (BILA)-Spanish you can teach in an English speaking classroom, bilingual classroom, or dual immersion. There are also other languages for BILA:Portuguese, Hmong, Khmer, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Punjabi

When to Apply to the Credential Program

You may apply to the credential program

u If you have completed a bachelor's degree (BA or BS) OR

u If you are close to completing your degree (generally, in the last semester of the BA/BS program – LIBS Majors).

u If you are an ITCO student the semester before your senior year.

Program Starts

u Students may begin the Credential program in the Fall or Spring semesters. Some summer courses are available.

Other Admission Requirements

Early Field ExperienceCandidates are required to have a minimum of 45 hours of documented field experience prior to being admitted to the program, must be in K-6 grade US classrooms within the last 5 years.(Not required for CSU Stanislaus Liberal Studies majors)

English CompositionAll CSU graduates will have met this requirement as part of their BA/BS degree.Can be met by ONE of the three options:a) Completion of a CSU WP class as part of the undergraduate program

(verified by transcripts).b) Obtain a 41 or better on the writing portion of the CBEST.c) Completion of an upper division composition course with a grade of ‘C’

or better.

Admission Requirements (Continued)

5. American Government/ConstitutionAll CSU graduates will have met this requirement as part of their BA/BS degree.This requirement can be met by taking a course that covers the U.S. Constitution.

6. Second Language ExperienceCan be met by ONE of the five options:a) Completion of a language other than English including American

Sign Language at the college level with a passing grade (3 units). b) Completion of one year of a language other than English at high

school level with a passing grade.c) Completion of HILT (High Intensity Language Training) Program.d) Other life experiences that demonstrate second language

acquisition.e) EDUC 4460 meets this requirement for Spanish Bilingual

students.

u 2. EDUC 4460 - Cultural Views on Bilingualism

Form III – Early Field Experience Name: Student ID: Goals of Early Field Experience: The main purposes of the Early Field Experience Requirement are to observe: 1) the texts and instructional materials used in schools; 2) the student interactions; 3) the student/teacher interactions; 4) the grouping of students for instruction; 5) the classroom management strategies used by the teacher; 6) the planning and delivery of lesson plans; and 7) how schools function. Option 1: If you completed a college course that required field experience attach a catalogue description that shows the number of hours required. If there is no catalogue description showing the number of hours, you must get a signature from the course instructor. (Attach additional verification of course information if needed) Option 2: Observation in schools: Attach letters on school letterhead from administrators or teachers verifying your observation time. The letters need to include the dates, number of hours, and an indication that your participation was satisfactory. Documentation is subject to review by the Coordinator and/or Selection and Review Committee.
