The Knightly Knews The monthly newsletter of the Knights of Columbus Council #10795 Volume 21, Number 2 St. Vincent de Paul Church, Omaha, Nebraska February 2015 Grand Knotes from the Grand Knight Brother Knights, Thanks to Jack Wojtas and everyone who helped out with the pancake breakfast in January. Last year we decided to schedule the February pancake breakfast in January to coincide with the Catholic Schools week kickoff celebration. We had an incredible turnout and I think we may have even broken some records. I would also like to thank the school kids who helped out. They did an incredible job. What a wonderful reflection of our school and our Parish community. I look forward to the pancake breakfast in 2016. Great job Jack!! In less than 3 weeks we will have already completed our first Fish Fry of the 2015 Lenten season. The Fish Fry Committee has been working very hard over the past couple of months in preparation for this event and I want to thank the Fish Fry Committee for all of their hard work. The Fish Fry is the largest fundraising event for our council and one of the largest events for our Parish Community. I would like to thank all of the brother Knights & their families for all of their hard work over the next 6 weeks to provide the best Fish Fry in town week after week and year after year. The Fish Fry requires a lot of volunteers and a lot of very hard work goes into making this a great event each week. I would encourage every Brother Knight to work at least one or two Fish Frys this Lenten Season. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow Knights and a perfect opportunity to meet other parish families. I would like to extend a Thank You to the Brother Knights for all their help and dedication throughout the year. Without your help Brother Gary Hennessey and the other members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society would not have been able to provide Christmas for 11 parish and surrounding area families. As always, I appreciate all that you do and if you have any comments, questions or concerns don’t hesitate to call (402-359-1648) or e-mail ([email protected]) me anytime. Thank You and God Bless, Bill Yosick, Grand Knight

should be directed to the editor: Ron Frisse at 402-715-4879 or [email protected] Deadline for submission of articles or notes
is the 20th of each month for the next month’s newsletter. If you have a change of address or email, please notify Financial
The Fish Fry Committee has been very busy preparing for the 2015 season. We think we have a good solution for our fry tent, thanks to the help of Rick Langel, Tyler Langel, and Dan
Borcyk. We are very hopeful that our new solution will solve all of our past concerns and make the fry tent a great place to volunteer.
We will need volunteers to help with setting up our canopy and the new fry hood that has been built on Feb 15th. There will be more details in a separate email.
Lent is right around the corner, and there are still plenty of spots left for volunteers on our signup sheets. Without enough volunteers our fish frys can not be successful, please
consider volunteering for two nights or more. The fish frys are a great way to become involved in our council and meet other Knights. The more people we get to volunteer, the better we can spread out the work. Wives are also invited to sign up along with your children if they are in
5th grade or above. Younger children will not be allowed to assist with beer, cashiers, or the fry tent. This is one of our largest fundraisers throughout the year. Like last year, we would like to request that you sign up using the SignUp Genius website. To access the signup please
follow this link:
The roles of each position are listed, along with start and finish times. IF you can not start at 4:30 but will be there before 5:30 you can still volunteer for those positions, just note start time
in the comments
This year the dates for the fish frys are: 2/20 2/27 3/6 3/13 3/20 and 3/27
There shouldn’t be a lot of big changes to our operation this year, just some minor tweaks. Setup time is 4:30; Start time is 5:30 PM each Friday. One new signup area is a cleanup crew, if you are not available early on a Friday night, why not come out and have some fish and
beer then help to clean up after the serving line finishes. The serving line deserves a break when finished to have some dinner too. Afterwards all the workers and the cleanup crew will work together to get things cleaned up fast (or at least until Havermann turns off the beer) If
you have problems signing up send [email protected] an email and I can manually add you to the schedule.
Any questions contact Ron Frisse ([email protected]) or Jim Pavlik ([email protected]) Lets work together to make the 2015 season the best ever !!!!!!!!!
Please help advertise by sharing the flyer on the last page
Fish Fry placemat ad spots for sale We are doing something new this year at the fish frys and will be featuring placemats on the
tables. We are selling advertising spots on these placemats, each spot is about the size of a standard business card in full color. The price per spot is $150 which will be printed on 10,000
placemats that will be used at our fish frys and next season's pancake breakfasts until we use all 10,000 copies. If you or anyone you know is interested in purchasing a spot please let Adam Jones at [email protected], Steve Kluthe or Lee Galles know as soon as
possible. These spots will fill up quickly. This will be a good addition to our fish fry proceeds and a nice advertising method for local businesses.
The placemats will also feature the Knights logo and a picture of St. Vincent de Paul Church, an example of one used at another local parish fish fry is shown below
