One Just World is heading back to Canberra with"An App for Fixing Poverty? Harnessing Technology for Development"on Tuesday 21stMay. We would love you to join us for this dynamic event.
Samantha Barry,Sharon Bhagwan RollsandMark Kellyjoin moderatorJacqueline Maleytodiscuss the increasing role that technology is playing in poverty reduction and global
development. In recent decades weve seen the emergence of new programs and uses oftechnology like radio, mobile phones and the internet, which is changing the way developmentis viewed.
Now farmers in Sierra Leone can access market information via internet, radio and mobilephone, helping them decide what to grow and how to sell it. Women in rural Cambodia, whereliteracy is extremely low, can use radio to find out about vaccinations and how to accessprenatal check-ups. And through data gathering by mobile phone, everyday people can havetheir voices heard and highlight the areas in which they would like to see change. With so manychallenges yet to be overcome, what is the role of technology in development from here on in?
This event gives you a great opportunity to listen to prominent and engaging experts discuss anddebate this important issue, ask them your questions and find out how to get involved in helpingachieve a world free from poverty and inequality.
