RULES & REGULATIONSThese Regulations (abridged) are issued by the Executive Committee of the KCJ under the powers provided by Rule 12(d) in the Constitution of the KCJ and replaces all previous versions.

WELFARE OF DOGS AND CODE OF GOOD CONDUCT • An exhibitor should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are considered.• If in the opinion of the KCJ, a dog is of savage disposition it shall be ineligible for entry for any show.• No activity should be conducted which permits, encourages or develops aggression in a dog.• Except when caged all dogs must be on a lead for the duration of a show including the exercising area, exemptions
include when competing in the ring in an obedience class or agility test or taking part in a demonstration.• Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and lead when lifting them, this is not acceptable. This will be classed
as harsh handling and the exhibitor and exhibit will be disqualified.• It is not acceptable to handle a dog(s) in such a manner which causes its feet not to touch the ground when on
the move. Exhibitors should note that such practice could constitute harsh handling and could lead todisqualification. The owner, exhibitor or handler or any other person in charge of dogs must at all times ensurethe dogs are kept under proper control at the venue, including the showground. This regulation applies at thesetup, during the event and the breakdown of the show.

• All exhibits should have access to water.• The welfare of all exhibits is the concern of the exhibitor, dogs should not be left in distress, or in conditions where
distress may occur.• The Honorary Veterinary Surgeon or deputy shall be available on call should it become necessary in an
emergency.• All exhibitors are expected to act in a “Spirit of Good Sportsmanship” at all times.• Abusive behaviour will not be tolerated at any time, neither will discreditable conduct at a KCJ event. After
consideration, the Executive Committee reserves the right to refuse entries from any exhibitor found to be guilty of such abusive behaviour or discreditable conduct for a maximum of six shows organised by the KCJ.
• While every precaution shall be taken to ensure the safety of all persons, exhibits or property within a showprecinct the KCJ shall not accept any responsibility for any injury, damage or loss caused to, or by, any suchpersons or exhibits.
• Parents or guardians (whether present or not) will be held responsible for any minor (under 16 years of age)under their control. Should a complaint be received against any minor, the parent or guardian will be heldresponsible as if they themselves were the cause of such a complaint and shall be liable for damage and losshowever caused.
SHOW ENTRY AND ELIGIBILITY • Dogs entered for exhibition at KCJ licensed shows, except for Companion Dog Shows, must be registered with the
KCJ in accordance with the KCJ Registration Regulations or Guernsey Kennel Club (GKC).• Persons disqualified or suspended under the KCJ Rules are not permitted to take part in any KCJ licensed shows.
The age of all dogs and puppies shall be taken on the first day of a show, except from those competing in theDog of the Year finals.
• Only dogs of six calendar months of age and over on the first day of a show are eligible for exhibition at KCJ runor licensed shows. At the discretion of the Show Secretary dogs aged four calendar months and over are eligibleto enter Not for Competition at the aforementioned. Furthermore, dogs aged four calendar months and overare eligible to enter matches.
• Permission should be sort from the KCJ Executive Committee for any operation to an exhibit which gives it anunfair advantage if shown. An exemption may be granted based on individual circumstances at the discretionof the Executive Committee if it is felt that the operation was performed for the welfare of the dog and not forunfair gain. Subject to an exemption being granted, a dog cannot be entered if: - totally blind, totally deaf, it hascropped ears, the owner/exhibitor is under suspension
• Should any dog be reported by a judge as suffering from any of the foregoing, the dog shall be disqualifiedimmediately and any awards at that show shall be forfeited.
• No exhibit may be exhibited until the Registrar is satisfied that all paperwork is in order and has issued aregistration number. No entry fees will be refunded should the paperwork not be in place within 48 hours of theshow.
• Entry forms for shows held by the KCJ, save for matches and companion shows, shall contain, in full, the registered name of the dog, the date of birth, the names of the sire and dam. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure theaccuracy of the information provided. Where a dog is owned by more than one person it may be signed by one ofthe owners in good faith. Entries received by email will be considered signed by the sender of the email.
• The Show Secretary reserves the right to recommend to the Executive Committee that an exhibit be refused entry,provided he can give just cause. The Executive Committee shall have the final right to refuse entry and, if upheld,any payment refunded.
• In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in a class where the owners have to be members of the KCJeach partner must at time of entry be a member of the KCJ.

• Class entry fees for events organised by the KCJ will be decided by the Executive Committee and printed in theshow schedule or appropriate documentation.
• Definitions of classes shall be printed in the show schedule or appropriate documentation.• Entry will close as set out in the show schedule or appropriate document. Late entries will not be accepted.• No entry will be accepted unless accompanied by the full amount of the fees and duly completed entry form.• The entry fee for a dog entered and not exhibited will be forfeited.• If any dog, owner, exhibitor, and/or handler is entered for a class for which they are not eligible, entry money shall
be forfeited, unless it can be shown that the error is not of the exhibitors making.• The Executive Committee reserves the right to disqualify any dog, owner, exhibitor and/or handler from an award
won in a class for which they were not, for any reason, eligible and it will be the owner’s or handler’s in the caseof a handling class, responsibility to cover any associated costs such as, but not limited to, amending engraving orreplacing trophies and/or rosettes. If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a exhibit hasbeen entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of the following options. Withdrawal – The dog may be withdrawn from competition Transfer – if a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height the Show
Secretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed colour, sex, weight or height,or in the event there being no equivalent class the dog will be transferred to the Open Class for the correctbreed. If an exhibit is entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy class, Puppy class or Junior class which is over agebut under 12 calendar months of age, 18 calendar months of age or 24 calendar months of age respectivelythe Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy class, Junior class or Yearling class as appropriate.
• For any reason other than the above the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open Class for the correct breed,colour, sex, weight or height.
• If an exhibit arrives late or misses a class, even if it is the only class which the exhibit is entered, the dog may notbe transferred to any other class. Such a dog may however take part in handling classes only.
• The Show Manager shall have the right to exclude any dog which is not in a fit state for exhibition due to disease,vice or any other cause; if such exclusion takes place before or after the dog is judged, the entry fee will beforfeited.
• All breeds shall be judged against their Kennel Club Limited (UK) Breed Standard, unless clearly marked otherwise in the show schedule. Classes shall be made up for each show as follow, but always allowing for the bestcompetition possible, at the discretion of the Show Secretary.
• All breeds shall have a “Breed Class‟; for those breeds not listed and entered into A.V.N.C.F., a breed class willbe created.
• All breeds to have “Puppy Dog or Bitch‟, “Limit Dog or Bitch‟, “Open Dog‟ and” Open Bitch‟ Classes.• In Brace or Team classes, it shall only be necessary for an exhibitor to nominate and pay for one of the dogs at
time of entry. All exhibits shown in Brace or Team classes must have been entered into at least their Breed orVeteran classes and have completed all previous classes entered.
• All Executive Committee Members, unless they have been nominated as Show Manager, may exhibit at ashow. However, direct contact, including the use of social media, with judges should be kept to a minimumbefore and during a show. No person, whilst exhibiting or handling at a show shall attend or host the pre-show meal with the Judge(s). Judges shall not stay with a member of the KCJ before a show where themember has an exhibit at that show. Exhibiting or handling shall mean any dog which the member has bred,has owned or has handled in the previous year.

Definition of Classes Puppy For dogs of 6 and not exceeding 12 calendar months of age on the day of the Show.
Junior For dogs of 6 and not exceeding 18 calendar months of age on the day of the Show.
Yearling For dogs aged 12 months but not exceeding 24 months on the day of the show.
Novice * For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate** or a First Prize at 14 days before close of entries.
Limit For dogs which have not won 3 Challenge Certificate** or 8 First Prizes* at 14 days before close of entries
* - Wins as Puppies, or those at MEMBERS or OPEN SHOWS do NOT count.** Challenge Certificate shall include any show award counting towards the title of Champion in any jurisdiction
Open Open to all
AVNCF (Any Variety Not Catered For) This is an ALL BREED show and classes will be made for any registered breed entered into the class.
Veteran A Dog of 7 years of age or over on the day of the Show (does not need to be entered in breed class)
AVNCF Import Where an Interim Breed Standard has been approved by the UK Kennel Club, and the exhibit registered on the Import register. BOB winner eligible to compete in group.
Brace For 2 exhibits of the same breed owned by the same exhibitor(s), having completed all previous classes
Team For 3 exhibits of the same breed owned by the same exhibitor(s), having completed all previous classes
Exhibitors Class Open to any exhibit, Owner, or Handler, never having won a GROUP or Exhibitors Class at 14 days before the close of entries or already won this class at this show
Good Citizens Class Open to any Exhibit and Owner who have been entered into their breed class or veteran and have achieved minimum of their bronze award. Proof of achievement will be sought by requesting sight of the GCDS certificate on the day or a copy sent, with entries, to be placed on file for future reference
Not for Competition Any registered dog, that is required to be on the showground on the day. Must be registered with the KCJ or GKC and be over 4 months old

RING NUMBERS Ring numbers will be issued at the showground
TROPHIES Trophies may not leave the Channel Islands. It is the responsibility of those winning Trophies to ensure they are returned promptly, and cleaned, in good time. Trophies not returned may result in entry to the ring being refused. Exhibitors MUST sign for trophies before removing them from the showground
All Dogs MUST be in Airline Approved Sized Crates or cages for their breed
The size of the crate / carrier must be such that it will allow the pet to stand in a natural position, turn around easily and to lie down in a natural manner at all time
