KebayaA kebaya is a traditional

blouse-dress combination that originates from

Indonesia and is worn by women in Indonesia. It is sometimes made from sheer material such as silk, thin cotton or semi-transparent nylon or polyester, adorned with brocade or floral pattern embroidery. A kebaya is usually worn with a sarong or batik kain panjang, or other traditional woven garment such as ikat, songket with a colorful motif.

The form of the kebaya, considering the enormous -historical, political and social– shifts that have occurred in Indonesia during the last century, has remained relatively unchanged. Its function and meaning however, in contrast to its form, has major changes in colonial and post-colonial era, operating to meet different groups political agendas, social needs and aspirations.

The kebaya also has come to symbolize the emancipation of women in Indonesia through a representation linking the kebaya to the 19th century “proto-feminist” figure of Raden A. Kartini. During the 19th century, and prior to the Nationalist movement of the early 20th century.

So the next time you see a women wearing a kebaya you will understand that she is not just wearing a functional piece of clothing but she is also wearing a symbol of Indoneia’s cultural history which represents national symbolism and high fashion.

In the entire world there is only one country that hosts the famous Komodo Dragons, and that is Indonesia, and

even here you can only find this giant animal on Flores and some smaller islands around it. The Komodo dragon can grow up to 3 meters in length, weighing over 90 kilograms. When in your life do you get the chance to see these amazing creatures in the wild? Perama Tour can offer you the opportunity to visit these islands comfortably.

The hunting Komodo by camera tour is great for everybody. It’s the perfect mix, and combines culture, nature, relaxation and above all wildlife.

Starting off with the land adventure, you pass a traditional pottery village where pots are still made like hundreds of

years ago. The lady who shows you how to create a pot can’t speak any English but she can create a pot within minutes. After the explanation you can try to create a pot yourself. This will appear harder than it seems. The pottery is now mainly exported to countries in Europe; however the pots are also still used by the locals to store products. It is fascinating to see how pots are created from a ball of clay to a beautifully designed pot. Through the mainland of Lombok, you continue to Labuan, here you will have a short break at Perama docking. You can enjoy snacks and drinks while listening to the tour guide’s explanation about traditional Phinisi boats. After this the sea adventure is about to start.

After a short nights rest, the boat


anchors at Satonda Island. This island is special as it has a massive salt water lake in the center of it. During the tour, the guide will take you to the lake and you get a chance to float in the water and experience the ultimate spa treatment, as little fish come to nibble on your feet. After visiting the Satonda Lake, the relaxation is not over, as the island provides a coral reef and beautiful beaches for snorkeling or sunbathing. The next stop along the way is Kilo Beach, a beach made out of grained coral. The day is rounded off with watching a bright orange sun vanishing into the ocean.

The third day of the tour is also the highlight of the tour, this day you visit the infamous Komodo dragons on their turf. After getting up early and having breakfast it is time to trek around Komodo Island to witness the dragons in their natural habitat. The certified ranger explains about the nature on the island and about the behavior of the dragons. To see such a large lizard from close up makes anyone a little jumpy, what a great experience! There are 3 kinds of trekking; short, medium, and long. Each of the trekking has chance to see the dragons. After the trekking and having done the actual hunting komodo by camera it is time to get back aboard the ship. Then, a short 30 minute later you arrive in Pink Beach, also known Red Beach.

There are a couple of really nice beaches in the world, but this beach is definitely a must see! When you arrive at the beach, the first thing you notice is the clear white sand mixed with red coral which creates that pinkish glow on the beach. There are only seven of theses pink beaches in the entire world. Here you have time to snorkel and to see healthy coral in all shapes and sizes. When you walk up the hill you will have spectacular views of the

to Labuan Bajo, Flores. The boat arrives just in time for you to see the sunset. The different shades of coloring over the harbor can be described as truly magical. At night you are invited to join a party with the crew and the other participants on the boat. This gives you a chance to say goodbye to new found friends and welcome the new participants.

The next day the boat leaves Flores to sail to Rinca Island. This island is part of Komodo National Park and also hosts the Komodo dragons. Here the species is even more abundant than at Komodo Island and is frequently seen during trekking. It is great to see these living fossils roaming the island. After two hours of trekking you go back to the boat, where after a short journey you will arrive at Gili Laba beach.

Yet another beautiful sunset is witnessed at sea while travelling to Moyo Island. When arriving on Moyo Island, the next morning, you have time for a short walk through a local village and rice fields, leading to some fresh water pools and a waterfall. The perfect place to swim and relax. Maybe you are adventurous enough to try the 2.5 meter high swing from the top of the waterfall.

The last stop by sea before returning to Lombok is Keramat Island. This small island has a nice beach, great coral, and to top it off, coconut palm trees. Thanks to the crew, these palm trees are the perfect source for a fresh drink to cheers on the wonderful trip and the experience you gain is absolutely priceless.

A speciality satay from Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, made from beef cut into small dices with spicy sauce

on top of it. Its main characteristic is a yellow sauce made from rice flour mixed with spicy offal broth, turmeric, ginger, garlic, coriander, galangal root, cumin, curry powder and salt. In Medan, a lot of Sate Padang use not only beef but also chicken and lamb.

There are three types of sate padang, which are Sate Padang, Sate Padang Panjang, Sate Pariaman.The three types are differentiated by the colour of their

sauce. Sate Padang Panjang usually has yellow-coloured sauce while Sate Pariaman has red-coloured sauce. Bearing the sauces are different, the taste of both Sate are different. While sate Padang has a variety of flavor blend from the two types of sate above.

Fresh meat are boiled twice in a big drum filled with water to make the meat soft and juicy. Then, the meat is sliced into parts and spices are sprinkled on the meat. The boiled water will be used as a soup broth to make the sauce. Then the broth, mixed with 19 kinds of spices which have been smoothed and stirred with various kinds of chili. All seasoning are then put together and cooked for 15 minutes. Grill the sate when ready to eat, using charcoal from coconut shell.

Amed refers to a long stretch of coast running from the village of Cucik about 14 km eastwards incorporating the

seven villages of Amed, Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipah, Selang, Banyuning and Aas. The pace of life here is slow and the coastal scenery quite stunning making Amed the perfect place for a relaxed holiday in Bali.

Amed is the most recent tourist development area in Bali. It was only in 2000 that tarmac was laid on the roads. Telephone lines were installed in 2003 and it took until 2007 for a bridge to be built over a section of the main road that regularly washed

away d u r i n g the rainy season.

This is the most commonly used base for visitors wishing to dive the USS Liberty wreck at Tulamben and that area is also covered by this article. There are other good dive sites close at hand and a thriving dive industry has developed all the way along the coast here.

Amed is famous for its beaches, lined with traditional outrigger fishing boats. There is quite coarse black volcanic sand at Amed village beach. As you move further east (and away from Mount Agung), the beaches have softer sand and become more of a mid grey-brown in colour. The prettiest bays are probably those at Jemeluk and Lipah but the whole stretch of coastline is very attractive.

Most people come to Amed as a getaway, including expats from other parts of the island. It is a favourite honeymoon

destination for tourists

and is very popular with divers

and snorkelers. Day trips to local places of interest such

as the water palace at Tirta Gangga and Bali’s most sacred temple, Besakih,

can easily be arranged. Mount Agung with lots of trekking options just 30-40 minutes from Amed.

Traditional outrigger boats are available for fishing charters from the main beaches in the Amed area. This normally involves early morning trolling for mackerel. Enjoy nature and go with the wind on a traditional sailing boat for diving, fishing, exploration, dolphin watching, snorkelling or just swimming and relaxing.

As an archipelago nation with 54,716 KM of coastline, the second longest in the world. Indonesia

offers a amazing beach and ocean to enjoy and when talking about the most

paradisaical shore in Indonesia, The Bunaken National Marine Park situated in

the North of the Sulawesi Island has to be mentioned. Not only rich with marine lives,

it is also mesmerizing for its water so clear it is truly transparent.

The Bunaken National Marine Park was formally established in 1991 and is

among the first of Indonesia’s growing system of marine parks, currently there are

three Marine National Parks in Indonesia, Karimun Java in East Java, Wakatobi in South

Sulawesi and Bunaken in North sulawesi. The park covers a total surface area of

89,065 hectares, 97% of which is overlain

by sparkling clear, warm tropical water. The remaining 3% of the park is land, including the five islands of Bunaken,

Manado Tua, Mantehage, Nain and Siladen. Although each of these islands has a special character, it is the aquatic ecosystem that attracts most naturalists.

The park was established because of the marine bio-diversity it supports, because it is a migratory

route for protected animals and because it is of high economic value for fisheries and tourism.

There are over 20,000 residents in the area who depend on the natural resources of the park. The fear was that if the area was uncontrolled

then over-fishing, destructive fishing practices and unchecked pollution would

ruin the marine habitat which would be to the detriment of everyone concerned.

Moreover, the park has an exclusive bathymetry – the direct drop of the

coastal area into the continental shelf. If you dive in this area or in any other

24 diving sites in Bunaken, you can see more than 70% of the fish species in the

Western Pacific (almost 2500). In addition, a vast number of rare and endangered species

of animals like coelacanths, dugongs, whales, dolphins and turtles live here. Also, here you can

find 7 of the 8 species of giant clams, registered worldwide.

The rich diversity of the biological scenery in The Bunaken National Marine Park is explained by

the presence of the continuous and strong oceanic currents. The northeasterly currents that cross

the water surface of the park, along with the gyros, complementary to the lunar cycles form a natural trap

Indonesia is a huge archipelago consisting of thousands of islands that stretch from the westernmost point of Sabang to the easternmost point of Merauke. From

Miangas island the northmost to Rote island the southmost, it spread to more than 17.508 islands with over 1 million km2 making Indonesia a massive sand box to explore. This huge archipelago is endowed with a beauty of diverse cultures and nature with distinctive flora and fauna.

There are eight major islands or island groups in this enormous chain. The largest landmasses consist of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan (Borneo), Sulawesi (Celebes) and

Irian Jaya (the western half of Papua New Guinea). The smaller islands fall into two main groups: the Molluccas to the northeast, and the lesser Sunda chain east of Bali. Bali is a unique island, which for a number of reasons can be put into a class of its own.
