Bulldog Rushing Attack Gashes Bomber DefenseBy: T.J. Hug
THE VILLAGE REPORTER
September 5th-6th-EDON: There is
many a cliché that could be used to de-scribe why Edon lost on Saturday.
Losing the turnover battle is alwaysa popular choice. And yes, when a team
turns the ball over six times like the Bomb-ers did against the Edgerton, it is extreme-
ly difcult to win a game. Add to that the
fact that most of said turnovers happenedin the second quarter, when the Bulldogs
exploded for 33 points, and this argumentbecomes even more convincing.
Others might point to the lack of a
ground game for Edon. Indeed, rushing24 times for just 9 yards is pretty rough,
especially when one considers that quar-terback Kaiden Sapp rushed for 17 yards
by himself. Generally, an inability to runthe football will make even the most potent
of offenses anemic.
A simple look at the scoreboard will
convince most people that Edon's effortmust have been lacking. After all, it's hardto look at the scoreboard and honestly be-lieve that the Edgerton might have beenthat much better than the Bombers. It'smuch easier to look at the players from adistance and demand they play with “moreheart.”
But no, none of these things were thedetermining factor in Edon's 20-59 loss tohated rival Edgerton.
The turnovers, while debilitating to besure, weren't enough to keep Edon downby themselves. In fact, most of the turn-overs were committed a good distanceaway from the Bomber end zone, givingtheir defense every opportunity to respondto the sudden change of possession.
Rushing for 9 yards as a team did littleto stop the Edon passing attack. KaidenSapp still threw for 348 yards and a touch-down while completing 23 of 43 passes.
And anyone at the game could tell byhow loud the pads were cracking that
“heart” wasn't lacking on either side of theeld, and certainly not from the Bombers.
The culprit behind Edon being on thewrong side of a 39 point route was noneother than their own rushing defense. TheBomber defense gave up 318 yards and8 touchdowns on 32 attempts. In otherwords, one out of every four times a Bull-
dog rusher touched the ball, Edgertonscored a touchdown. It's not as though the Bulldogs method-
ically wore Edon down. Those 8 touch-down runs made up 207 of their rushing yards, with 6 of them being longer than 20 yards. 56 of Edgerton's leading rusher,Dallas King's 99 yards came on two plays, both of them touchdown runs. His quar-terback, Duane Miller, amassed 74 yardson his 2 touchdown runs, which is 30more yards than he gained from passingthe ball all day.
The point is, outside of those six plays, the Edon defense held Edgerton to a muchmore respectable 121 yards rushing and a
pair of short touchdown runs. With only
80 yards passing on the afternoon for theBulldogs, and 36 of those yards coming
from a meaningless touchdown reception
by receiver Alex Michael, that would havereduce Edgerton's total yardage to just
over 200 yards. But it doesn't work that way, and Mill-
er, King, and running back Logan Danielswere able to break long runs when they got
to the second and third levels of the Bomb-
er defense. Is this due to some schematicissue with Edon's back seven? Could it be
a fundamentals issue? Is a personnel shiftin order? It's tough to say for sure, but it's
clear that some adjustments are likely tobe made, and soon.
Hicksville is coming to visit, and if the
Bombers want to save their season, theycan't let six plays beat them again this

September 5th-6th-MONTPELIER:
Nothing went right for Montpelier in theirattempt to host Wauseon.
Kicking off Friday night, the game waspostponed to Saturday after only a few
plays due to thunderstorms. Unfortu-
nately for the Locomotives, things only gotworse from there.
Two rst half touchdown passes byIndians quarterback Zac Robinson put
Montpelier in an early hole. Noah Castleand Derek Rupp made the receptions, for
20 and 12 yards respectively. The onlything to go right for the Locos in the peri-
od was when Wauseon kicker Josh Whit-
comb missed the extra point on his team’ssecond touchdown.
Another Robinson touchdown throw, preceded by a 2 yard touchdown run byNate Suntken, put Wauseon up by 26points. Whitcomb missed a second pointafter attempt after the rushing score. Lateinto the third quarter, Nate Suntken ranfor a much longer touchdown, sprinting49 yards for the score. With Whitcomb’skick parting the uprights, the Indianstook a 33 point lead.
The fourth quarter was more of thesame. Robinson threw for another touch-down, this one to Jacob Flory for 72 yards. T.J. Gype ran 69 yards into the end zonefor the last score of the game. Whitcombnailed both extra points, giving Wauseona 47-0 victory over home team Montpelier.
At the conclusion of the game, the boysfrom Wauseon had amassed an impres-sive 519 yards of total offense, while the
Locos only managed to generate 81. TheIndians also dominated the time of pos-session, holding the ball for thirteen min-utes longer than Montpelier.
Zac Robinson led the offensive assaultagainst Montpelier. With deadly accu-racy, the Wauseon quarterback complet-ed 18 of 22 passes for 287 yards and 4touchdowns. Rushing wise, the meaning-less touchdown run by Gype made himthe leading rusher for the Indians. NateSuntken’s 6 rushes for 67 yards and 2touchdowns had a greater impact on thegame, however. But it was Robinson him-self who took on the majority of the rush-ing burden, keeping the ball 16 times for55 yards.
For as rough of a game as this was forthe Locomotives, they played a fairly cleangame. Taking care of the ball for most of
the game, they only fumbled once, though
that did lead to the only turnover of thegame. Montpelier also committed only
a single penalty, which amounted to ve yards.
Despite the lack of mental mistakes,
the Locos just couldn’t nd a rhythm fortheir offense. Quarterback Dylan Snyder
went 4 for 9 passing for 33 yards, alsorunning the ball 7 times for 20 yards.
Bryce Cooley was the most productiverunner for Montpelier on the afternoon,
charging ahead twice for 21 yards.
Montpelier will need to regroup by nextweek, as they will be hosting Liberty Cen-
ter. Wauseon travels to Willard for theirnext contest.

He studied business atHarvard and The University

second at the U.S. Amateurin 1954, losing to some guy
named Arnold Palmer. So it's no wonder the
Toledo Junior Golfer's As-sociation (TJGA) chose
Stranahan as the gure to
which they tied their boy'splayer of the year award.
Since 1973. the TJGA hashonored high school golfer
with the Frank StranahanPlayer of the Year Award,
using a points system
based on a series of tourna-ments played throughout
the Summer. The playerwith the most points at the
conclusion of these tourna-ments takes home the hon-

And for the last two years, that player has been
Trevor Dominique.“Our 2013 and 2014

dominated the points forthe second consecutive year.” This per the TJGA's
ofcial website.Indeed, in the 2014
