The guitar is a string instrument. It consists of a body with a rigid neck to which the strings, generally six, are attached. Guitars are traditionally constructed of various woods and strung with animal gut or, more recently, with either nylon or steel strings. Some modern guitars are made of polycarbonate materials. Guitars are made and repaired by luthiers. There are two primary families of guitars: acoustic and electric.

Nowadays, the guitar is the instrument more extended throughout the world. Its origins are unclear. There are theories that argue that the ancestor of the guitar was introduced in Spain during the invasion of the Arabs in the eight century. However, other theories argue that its origins go back to the time of the Greeks, who created an instrument with some semblance to the actual guitar.
