The way we play the electric guitar hasn't changed much since it's invention. This slides summarize the design thinking process that I went through into analyzing this skill, and prototyping a new interface for the electric guitar.

WHAT AM I DOING?
I’m exploring the movements and patterns emerging from guitar playing,
addressing those findings by measuring and/or capturing the expressions as a
new way of interfacing the player witha musical instrument.

WHY?
As technology advances, stringed instruments – electric guitars – have
stayed mostly unmodified for as long as 85 years.
However, there is technology elsewhere in the signal path.
WHY?
There is technology in the signal processing, modeling, amplifying,
even synthesis...
WHY
... but there’s not much technology in playing or performing.
