What is ONVIF?

• Onvif– The Open Network Video Interface Forum, was founded primarily by Axis, Sony, and Bosch.

• Onvif is a communications protocol, like NTCIP, created as a universal protocol to make VMS systems and cameras plug n’ play.

• Onvif is rarely 100% compatible.

PSIA – The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance, was spearheaded by several manufacturers, including Cisco, GE, IBM, NICE, Pelco, Milestone, Genetec, and many others. Look for ONVIF or PSIA when selecting cameras

• Software as a Service (SaaS) is a software delivery model that is sweeping the IT world. Software and associated data are centrally hosted in a cloud computing environment and accessed over the Internet.

• Differs from the traditional model of software delivery, where software is purchased and installed on a desktop or workstation.

A category of software that provides a platform and applications created by middleware developers, Designed to integrate multiple unconnected security applications and devices and control them through one comprehensive user interface. Collects and correlates events from existing disparate security devices and information systems (video, access control, sensors, analytics, networks, building systems, etc.) to empower personnel to identify and proactively resolve situations.

but can lead to many issues for surveillance.
