PRIP Raja Saboo was the Chief Guest on June 24, 2019 at Government Elementary School, Peermuchalla, which was handed over to the School after

completing massive renovation work, and also adding new rooms. Project Chair PP Rtn Kanan Diwan thanked Co-Chair PP BL Ramsisaria for his

contribution and engineering expertise. She also thanked PDG Shaju Peter, PDG Yoginder Diwan, PP Amarjit Singh and all those who had supported

this project with donation of Rs 12 lakh and global grant Rs 8.34 lakh.

President Ashok Puri welcomed PRIP Raja Saboo, Usha ji, DG Praveen Goyal, large number of Rotarians

of our club and the Rotaractors. We also had gracious presence of DEO Mrs Gurpreet Kaur Dhaliwal,

Member of Zirakpur Municipal Council Mr Jagdev Singh and Mr Anup Anjuman of Dainik Bhaskar. The

School Headmistress Poonam Sood and teachers thanked our Club and were very happy for their smart

and Happy School as it has undergone a drastic change in a few months.

PRIP Raja Saboo congratulated President Ashok Puri, PP Kanan Diwan and all those who successfully

accomplished this prestigious project. He and Usha ji were impressed while going around the School.

PRIP Saboo adviced PE Salil Bali to continue support to this School in his Rotary year.

Rotary International Convention 2019, Hamburg, Germany

In our meeting on June 21, 2019 President Rtn Ashok Puri welcomed

the guests and the awardees - Rotaractors, RCC members and the

supporting personnel during the year. Few days are left for the current

Rotary year to end, President Puri thanked all our members for their

support and cooperation during the year.

Speaking about the RI Convention at Hamburg, PDG Shaju Peter was

very happy as there were eight members from our Club at the

Convention. Along with Shaju were PP Deepak Sood with R’ann

Purnima, PP Amarjit Singh with R’ann Sunita, IPP Dr Rita Kalra, Rtn

Dr Sanjay Kalra and Rtn Shuchi Thakur. Shaju said, “I don’t think any

other club has matched the strength of our Club. Congratulations to all

of you for being at Hamburg.”

PDG Shaju explained, “RI Convention is an annual event where

Rotarians from all parts of the world assemble for fellowship and

inspiration.” For 5 days there were 25000 Rotarians from 172 countries

in Hamburg, a beautiful and fascinating 2nd largest city in Germany,

having population of 1.8 million. Shaju thanked IPP Dr Rita Kalra for

purple T-shirt for all those who were from District 3080.

Shaju also attended South Asia reception which is held in all the

Conventions. 550 Rotarians from India, Pakistan, Srilanka, Nepal and

neighboring countries got together over a paid meal in Hamburg.

India is occupying a prominent

position in terms of

membership growth as we are

growing very fast. Similarly, in

terms of contribution to the

Rotary Foundation we were at

number 2 position last year, but

this year we are likely to take

up 4th position.

PRIP Raja Saboo was the senior most Past RI President at

Hamburg. He held a reception in great style for batch union

of his year 1991-92. He invited all those who served as

District Governors during his year, and also all Past District

Governors of 3080 who were in Hamburg.

Shaju showed a few glimpses of RI Convention through a very colorful presentation. To manage the seating arrangements for 25000 delegates at

Hamburg, two sessions were being held and also through LCD display in the inspirational lounge.

In the House of Friendship Rotarians enjoy fellowship, meet old friends, share ideas and various projects. There were various Rotary stalls and a stage

where performances were given by people from all over the world.

On 19th June 2019 District Governor Praveen Goyal presented the Charter to Vice President Rtn Parminder Singh, Secretary Rtn Sharmita Bhinder, PE Rtn Dr Vishal Dua and Rtn Ravi of new Rotary Club of Zirakpur at Hotel Ramada Plaza.

The District Governor was accompanied by District First Lady Basu and their daughter Rtn Aarti. Rotary Chandigarh Midtown was represented by PDG Shaju Peter, President Rtn Ashok Puri, PP Rtn Dr VJS Vohra and PP Rtn Vinod Jawa. Rotary Chandigarh was represented by President Rtn AP Singh, PE Rtn Surinder Pal Kaur, PP Rtn Baldev Aggarwal, PP Rtn CJ Siingh and Rtn Sartaj Lamba. DG congratulated the new Club and also complimented for collecting 50 units of blood during that day, in association with Rotary Blood Bank Society.
