Tools have been very important for all humans including the earliest hominids; Australopithecus

As hominids got more advanced so did the tools and their abilities to use them

Some tools that might have been used by early humans are:

*Sharpened Rocks/Stones *Sharpened Sticks

It took a while for the tools to advance, so in the beginning lots of hominids were scavengers Australopithecus didn’t make tools but if they found a sharp stick or stone they would use it BUT Homo habilis the second earliest humans were the first hominids to MAKE tools

Page 3: The evolution of tools nicole socials

Australopithecus were not smart enough to make tools but if they found sharpened sticks and stones they would use them

There for they were mostly scavengers not hunters They could only use simple tools For example: They might have pushed a stick into a ant

hill so it would come out with lots of ants on it that they can eat

Page 4: The evolution of tools nicole socials

This were the first hominids to create tools They were able to hunt but only with simple tools They could use fire if it was already made but they

didn’t know how to keep it going or make it We refer to them as hunter scavengers which means

they can hunt but some times eat already dead food They were able to make basic shelter out of sticks Also know as “Handy Man” because they were the

first ones to make tools even though they were basic

Page 5: The evolution of tools nicole socials

They learnt how to control and make fire They were stronger and had bigger brains than Homo habilis They could make complex tools such as: Hand axe Butchering tools They could hunt animals from Africa to Asia

Page 6: The evolution of tools nicole socials

Made very advance tools for that time Made throwing tools such as: harpoons spears They built structures and shelters to protect

themselves They also made stone knifes First hominids to bury dead

Page 7: The evolution of tools nicole socials

They could hunt big animals

Very intelligent there for they had bigger, better tools

They could fish with nets and hooks

Invented bow and arrows

Made canoes

Page 8: The evolution of tools nicole socials

We have enhanced all our tools by a lot such as:

A hammer might have once been a sharpened rock

And some more enhanced tools that are electronic are:

Drills Tractors
