Greek MythologyReligion was a very important part in Greece it was apart of their every day life.

• They thought that worshipping gods would make their lives better and longer.

• They believed in many different gods and goddesses each god controlled a certain aspect in life.

• They had shrines for gods in their homes and community shrines.

• People tried to please the gods because if a god was happy they helped you if god was unhappy it punished you in some realistic way like losing money.

• People would also leave presents for the god by leaving it at the shrines.

Temples and Priests The greeks built temples for the gods to show their love for them. One temple for every village for one specific god or goddess. They had statues in the temple of the god and people would worship and bring presents to them.

• The also had religious celebrations outside the temple and festivals.

• A priest would take care of the temple to manage it. It was said that the priest were the only ones who could communicate with the gods.

• Priest were very important they were believed to have the power to speak to the gods so they were trusted and respected.

• You could only become a priest if you were mother or father were a priest or a dying priest made you one.

• • The people of Egypt also worshipped hundreds of gods like the Greeks.

• The Egyptians worshipped over 2000 gods

• Some gods were worshipped all over Egypt some just in one village.

• Just like the greeks the Egyptians had temples built to honour the gods.

• The 8 main gods that were worshipped were Amun the king of the gods, Geb god of the earth, Horus god of the sky, Isis goddess of life, Osiris god of the dead and Ra god of the sun.

In Mesopotamia there were 4 creator gods who created the earth and looked after it and decided everything’s fate.

The 4 gods were An the god of the sky “the over arching bowl of heaven” as they said, then Enlil who created raging storms or helped mankind, Nin-khursag the goddess of the earth and the god Enki the water god and the patron of wisdom.

These gods did not make all their decisions alone the consulted 50 Annunaki. Annunaki’s are deities they are offsprings of the 4 creator gods.
