school for a week in a half and there has already been two wrecks because all the vehicles. After all, they're some pros to the free for all parking. The free for all parking has been very beneficial to students, now everyone is getting to school extremely early so they can get a good park-ing spot. There is also an-other complication of the parking. Parking on the first row hasn't been all that great. Yes, not having a far walk is great; but getting out in the afternoon is a pain. Some people are parking on the first row so they can get their kids, so it's makes it hard to get out. Advice to everyone who drives their vehicle to school, park as close to the street as you can. Yes, it's a walk but if you are in a hurry to leave in the afternoons; then parking far back would be very beneficial to you.

Stranger Things brings back the 80’sBy Will CodyEntertainment Editor

WWE 2K17 excites fansBy DeMichael HarrisSports Editor

Netflix’s new series, Stranger Things, has caught the attention of countless Netflix watchers since the day of its release. This first sea-son focuses on the story of a young boy who strangely dis-appears when being chased by some irrational being that was not shown on camera during the chase, giving the show suspense in just the first episode. After the young boy

disappears, the mother, sher-iff, and friends have to face death-defying enemies in order to rescue the boy. Dur-ing this journey to save Will, the boy that disappeared, his three friends come across a telekinetic girl who plays a major role in the story. This plot continues throughout the eight episode starting sea-son, referencing many hidden clues and even having refer-ences to movies and shows that were popular back in the eighties. Stranger Things falls into the genre of drama, horror,

mystery, and sci-fi. This show was created and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer, oth-erwise known as the Duffer Brothers. The two brothers were inspired by the mystery and horror works done in the eighties by Stephen Spielberg, John Carpenter, etc., so this show has a type of retro feel to it, as it is set in the eighties and is also filmed as if it were made in that time period. By doing this, Stranger Things is able to make the viewers feel as if they are actually in the eighties watching this show. Before the Duffer

Brothers approached Netf-lix, they approached fifteen to twenty different networks to accept their project, only to be rejected because of the fact that four main characters were kids in an adult style story; however, Netflix gave the Duffer Brothers a chance, which ultimately led to their rapid success. The Duffer Brothers recently confirmed a second season of the series which will be released some-time next year, and have so far only released one new trailer for season two, only displaying the episode titles,

or chapters, of the episodes as they are called in the series. Many fans of the show have been picking out clues all throughout the first sea-son to try and find hints for what to expect in the second season, and it will probably keep these fans occupied un-til the release of the second season. Stranger Things has been the main new hit series of the summer, and will most likely continue to please the fans and most binge watch-ers throughout the seasons to come.

ago was held and it was estimated that half the school wasn’t even there. Maybe because it was outside? Maybe because nothing ever happens at pep rallies to properly invest people in them. There are 3 pep rallies this year. Only 3. That is not a good thing because on Fridays dur-ing football and basketball season, the Devil Dogs should be getting hyped and pumped to cheer on their team. There should be pep rallies for every single home game. But that’s the problem. When there are pep rallies, there is no energy, no school

spirit. The lack of activity and participation is a good reason why there aren’t as many pep rallies, because it is just deemed as a “waste of time” or “bor-ing.” instead, pep rallies should be seen as the most anticipated time of the week. No class, being with friends, and taking some pride in being a Devil Dog should get everyone in the school spirit.Morrilton needs a change. Morrilton needs to regain the spirit that helped us win a state champion-ship only 3 years ago. This doesn’t last forever. It’s time to bring back the old Morrilton. Change starts now.

Students lack school spirit

What is your favorite thing about being a Devil Dog?

Freshman: Joseph Williams- My favorite part is playing sports for the Dogs and watching all of our sporting events.

Sophomore: Gabe Rodriguez- I love watching our football team, and sup-porting them every Friday night!

Junior: Alyssa Mullins- My favorite part is the great, friendly atmosphere of our school!

Senior: Dakota Meuir- I love watching our Friday night football games!

School spirit is the key to everything in school. With school spirit comes fun, participation, and more privileges. But lately, the school spirit at Morrilton has been anything but spirit-filled. A few years ago, Morrilton was at the peak of school spirit. Pep rallies were exciting, every grade participated, and it was fun to be a Devil Dog. So what happened? The first pep rally a couple weeks

Suicide Squad hit theatres on August 5, 2016. This film was a hit in 4,255 theatres across the world. The first weekend Sui-cide Squad had racked up $133.6 million dollars breaking the August open-ing records. Suicide Squad is a DC Entertainment movie about the worst of the worst. In this film all had gone wrong and who bet-ter save the world than...supervillains? A U.S. officer has brought together a dangerous team of the five of most menacing beings in the world to take down

the new evil brewing. Only can you trust an evil despicable being? Are these villains just simply mis-understood? There is one way to find out, to actually watch this film. I did go out and see Suicide Squad, it was phenomenal! The effects in Suicide Squad were of highest quality. Every year the effects in films become more rich and feel real to the viewer. In my opinion Suicide Squad felt exceed-ingly satisfying. The way the director portrayed The Joker left me with chills it was so spot on. The direc-tor showed how obsessive, sick, and evil he truly was; yet it was done in a way to where you fell in love with

him in that moment. The directors allow you to see inside the heads of each of the world's most wicked creatures to the point you no longer hate them, but you actually fall in love with them. The way Suicide Squad was assembled will leave you with a new un-derstanding of those called “evil” in the world. When you are no longer watch-ing the movie, but listening to the message you cannot hate the film. I fell in love with Suicide Squad, and I am telling you that you can to. I highly recommend this film to you.

This school year at MHS we have been told that we won't have assigned parking. That we’ll have first come first serve. Honestly hav-ing free for all parking is more dangerous, because students will rush to get good parking. Also since the construction is going on it’s made the school parking lot more chaotic. The junior high and high school pick up and drop off is at the high school parking lot, so it also makes it harder on the students to get out of the parking lot. Some students, like myself have to go to other schools to get sib-lings so it takes me way longer to get out and get to the school to get my brother because of all the people picking up their kids. Also the free for all parking, I think that since we pay for parking spots, that we should get the parking spot that we need. Last school year was more organized and better with the parking in my opinion. I think that we need to go back to having the assigned parking so students won't rush to get parking. We have been in

October 11th marks the release date for the all new WWE game, WWE 2K17. This marks the 3rd installment of WWE games for the PS4 and XBOX 1. This also marks the 4th game that 2k has produced for WWE. The hype for this game is unreal. There are so many new features and additions from the previ-ous game, and all of them are sure to make the game much better than last year The first new addition, and this feature is finally re-turning after 13 years of not being in WWE games, the backstage brawl. And this is no ordinary backstage

brawl. You have the ability to start out in the ring and fight all around the arena, from ringside, to the stage, to backstage, to locker rooms, etc. Not to mention camera cuts that make the dynamic of the game that much better. The next addition is the promo system. For those who are unaware, a promo is an opportunity to express yourself on the micro-phone. This is a completely new feature for the game, no game from the past has ever given the player the ability to cut a promo. The promo feature is available for Universe Mode and MyCareer Mode. Speaking of MyCareer Mode… MyCareer has finally been given the boost

it needs. After a seemingly lackluster MyCareer Mode in the previous 2 games, 2k has finally listened to the fans. This year, not only can the player cut promos, but Merchandise, appear-ance, and other things play a huge part in how the career plays out. It feels like an actual career this year as opposed to a chain of matches with an occasional break. WWE 2K17 has the potential to be the best wrestling game of all time. With the huge roster, new gameplay, and an incredible MyCareer mode, gamers and wrestling fans alike will be talking about this game for years to come!

Social media can be distracting

Social media is some-thing every teen and even adults feed into. Accord-ing to a survey that was conducted in 2014 and 2015, an average of nine-ty-four percent of teens use social media daily on their mobile device. So-cial media started out as a fun way to communicate with friends, but is that really what social media is now? Social media started out as a way to share your cute pictures with all your friends or to post statuses about what you did during the day.

All the cute stuff turned into girls tearing each other down because of their boyfriend liking your picture or because you just so happened to get more likes than them. Seventy-four percent of females in counter cyberbullying daily. It is not just females that have to deal with it though because it also happens to males almost just as much at a high sixty-four percent. The drama that happens on so-cial media leads to bigger problems such as harass-ment, fist fighting, or even suicide. Four thousand and five hundred teens commit suicide because of

the cyberbully they expe-rience on this “innocent and fun” social media. The negative comments that teens make to each other are more hurtful on social media and taken harder than those said in person. This is mostly because so many people usually sees the comment and makes it harder for the one being bullied. Besides social media being a leading cause of cyberbullying, it also is not as safe as teens talk their parents into believing. Several believe that just because they have privacy settings turned on that their stuff is actually

experience, John said, “Ar-kansas Governor’s School was an engaging and excit-ing educational experience in which every student studied critical thinking and another specialized field. Studying science, I did several research projects and experiments to expand my contribution to both physics and biol-ogy. Additionally, play-ing several campus-wide games and sports made AGS (Arkansas Gover-nor’s School) an incredible summer adventure.” At Governor’s School, the students are selected into certain subjects to study that they excel in, such as science for John, and English and Language Arts for Ramsey. Throughout the six weeks, John and Ramsey were able to study deeper into their certain fields and obtain knowledge from their studies that most students wouldn’t here at school. They both mentioned that AGS was a great experience and they were proud to have been able to represent MHS.

goal for the season is to do well in the conference tournament. The next tennis match will be held away, against Farmington and Alma, which is said to have a good game. The MHS team will need to have a good preparation tactic. In order to prepare for the games, a couple things done are practicing hitting with each other, and bringing their very best they have to offer while at practice so they can succeed during the game. Practices are weekly and the players take tennis very seriously some even take time out of the week to practice on their own or go to a local Tennis court and play one on one.

During this past summer, two of our se-niors, Ramsey Yarbrough and John Hopkins, at-tended Governor’s School at Hendrix College in Conway. This six week pro-gram helps create a unique experience for the gifted and talented upcoming seniors all throughout Ar-kansas. The students here are challenged to further develop many personal skills that will benefit them in the future, and they are selected based on high intellectual potential, outstanding ability in an academic or artistic area, evidence of giftedness, either demonstrated or potential, and numer-ous outstanding personal characteristics. Both John and Ramsey meet the required criteria, which is why they were chosen to represent Morrilton High School at Governor’s School. When asked about the Governor’s School

There are many new changes this year. Not only to our school, but to the teaching stuff also. We have four new teachers this year. Coach Cranor, Mrs. Mullins, Coach Powers, and Mrs. Hooten. The board made a great decision in picking such wonderful teachers. Their love for children really shines through them. I got the privilege to get to talk to them one on one and find out more about them. Some things that I talked to coach Cranor about was where he attended college. He went to col-

lege at Ouachita Baptist College where he played quarterback in high school also and started a chess club. Coach Cranor now teaches 9th and 11th grade english for our school. I asked coach Cranor what his favorite part at MHS was and he said “I would have to say the student and the stuff I work with.” Mrs. Mullins is a wonder-ful teacher she teaches both geometry and algebra 2. Mrs. Mullins is an MHS alumni. While attending high school and college she had a part in the band, theatre and math club and in college a part in the math club. She went to col-lege at UCA where she got her degree in math. She says her favorite part about

MHS is that she “loves the sense of a loving commu-nity.” Mrs. Hooten is a great teacher with her ability to get along with students and teach students to step out of there comfort zone. Mrs. Hooten teaches the-atre, oral communications, and theatre appreciation. Mrs. Hooten attended col-lege at UCA. She partici-pated in both cheerleading and theatre. I asked Mrs Hooten what her favorite part of MHS was and she said “ I love feeling apart of something and I love

The Morrilton high school tennis team has started off this year doing really well with competition. Tennis player Jordan Ryles with a total of ten wins and one loss. There is a total of 7 players on the MHS tennis team and it is be-ing coached by Zac No-land. What is said to be the best thing about his coaching style is that he really motivated them to do their best and always have fun while doing so. Out of the seven players on the tennis team and having talked to a few of them, their

The Lady Devil Dogs volleyball season began the second week of school. The team spent July and August practicing in order to be prepared for their trialing season. The conference teams that the Dogs usually play against were moved around this year, so this season was like a new adventure for the vol-leyball team. The first game on August 22nd was at home against Clarksville. The Dogs were victorious over Clarksville in three out of five matches. The Thursday of this same week, the team took a trip to Maumelle. The girls were beaten, but they remained positive and learned the areas they needed to improve on. The next Tuesday, August 30th, the Lady Dogs traveled to Vilonia, but they were beaten in three. Bates-ville came to Morrilton on Thursday of this week. The Lady Dogs were beaten in three by this talented team. On September 6th, the volleyball team made the trip to Searcy and suc-

ceeded over their opponent in a four match victory. This boosted the girl’s confi-dence, and encouraged them to keep working hard. September 8th, Mountain Home came to the home gym. This game was incredibly intense, and it went into the fifth match. Though the Lady Dogs lost, they played an amazing game and proved their true talent and ability. After the Moun-tain Home game, the volleyball team suffered a losing streak. They lost to Greenbrier (at home), Beebe(away), Vilonia (home), and Batesville(away). This was difficult for the team, but they remained positive and kept working everyday to get better. After this difficult losing streak, the girls beat Searcy in an awesome three match victory on Septem-ber 29th. Junior Alyssa Mul-lins says, “We are working everyday to get better. Our goal is to finish strong in our remaining games, win in district tournament, and go to State.”

Morrilton Devil Dog football has arrived! The month of September has been quite an interesting road for the Devil Dogs, who are now 4-1 for the season. With games against Russellville, J.A. Fair, Searcy, Harrison, and Greenbrier, the Devil Dogs have made it halfway through the season. The season started out as it usually does, against our rival Russellville Cyclones on their home turf. It was a battle with both defenses being the true factors of the game. In the end the Devil Dogs fell short of victory by a score of 11-14. The next week the Dogs came home

for the first time this sea-son to take on a new face, the J.A. Fair War Eagles. It was an incredible offensive showing for the Dogs as they got off to a quick start and just never looked back, finishing the game with a massive 60-0 win.

The home stretch contin-ued for the Devil Dogs as the Searcy Lions came into town. This was an especially important game for Morril-ton, since the Lions got the better of them the previous year. This year, the Devil Dogs brought their A game, with an astounding 41-13 victory over Searcy. The en-tire locker room was ecstatic for that victory, as there was no angry or sad face from any player.

The final game of the home stretch came as the Harrison Goblins came to Morrilton. This game was important due to it being the very first Conference game of the season. Con-ference games are what matter the most so Mor-rilton looked to put on a show against Harrison. The Goblins came with revenge on their mind, as they were embarrassed last year at their homecoming. The game began as a tough one, but Morrilton eventu-ally caught their stride and pulled away from Harrison, winning the first conference game 48-7! The final game of Sep-tember came against the Devil Dogs’ biggest rivals, the Greenbrier Panthers. For the second year in a

row, the Dogs traveled to Greenbrier to take on the Panthers, and similar to last year, the game was a nail biter. Last year, the Panthers won in a heartbreaking way, and Morrilton looked to redeem themselves. The game was intense, coming down to the wire. Hearts were racing, the crowd was going wild, but at the final horn, the Devil Dogs sealed the victory 35-27. Morrilton is now 2-0 in conference This week, the Devil Dogs welcome the Alma Airedales back to 5a in a highly anticipated game with the stakes being very high. Morrilton and Alma lead the conference, both with 2 wins and 0 losses to their name, but only one will prevail. Make sure to cheer on your Devil Dogs

Sherwood Forest!” and also Hope Rankin to have gotten the role of Lady Marian “May unsightly dandruff curse your head and the heads of those who you love!”. This play is filled with lots of laughter and drama and the cast as well as Mrs. Hooten is very excited for this production! Opening night is November 10, other show nights will be posted as well. A quote from the new drama teacher Mrs. Hoo-ten, “We are excited for the epic and humorous journey through Robin Hood!”

Griffith took a group up to help out this past Labor Day weekend. It was such a generous act of them to give up their holiday weekend and their time to help out in Louisiana to all the other people that really desperately needed them. This act of kindness represented Morrilton High school in a great way and this community needs more people like them! If everyone was to use acts of kindness like this and actually wanted to help out and try to help change things in this world, others would pick up and start trying to help and change

things. Morrilton gives thanks the ones that gave so much of their time and effort up to do this. It was such a wonderful thing to do! Everyone greatly ap-preciates them. You guys

are awesome! It's is amaz-ing to have such a caring and supporting school, students, faculty, and com-munity to even be able to help with things like this!

This year is a fresh start at Morrilton High School. Not only have we gained new teachers to our staff, we are also reshaping our school and the way our school flows. MHS is making all of these changes to help our school be more successful in the future. At the High School we have brought on Coach Cranor, Mrs.Mullins, Ms.Hooten, and Coach Powers. We appreciate all of our new staff members tremendously. We have had one teacher change his area of teachings com-pletely. Mr.Parks has gone from the drama teacher to a tenth grade english teacher. He has made a significant change in the

student's studies as have many of our other great teachers. If you have passed by the Morrilton High School in these past few months you have probably seen the construction hap-pening, a new basketball arena is being built. This arena is going to help out the whole school, not only the basketball players. We will hold graduations, and big events such as this in our new arena. Due to our area code and how most fami-lies cannot afford much, all of our meals are paid for. We also have a new system called grab and go allowing all students to eat breakfast. Our school is going through many changes, but they are for the better. These changes are help-ing our students, staff, and school run more smoothly and sufficiently.

MHS is making changes

After the flooding that happened in Louisiana some of our facility and student felt like that should help out in some way! Conway County thinks it is awesome that we have kids and teach-ers at our school wanting to help the ones in need! This past month Elizabeth Spivey started a food drive to take to the people that had been affected by the flooding. Also Mr. Parks, John Hopkins, and the well known Crenshaw
