Our Great God by Dr. Ralph Carter | Pastor

For the First time in a number oF years, I

plan to attend the Southern Baptist Convention. This year

it meets in Phoenix, Arizona. Regina and I are going out

a couple of days beforehand and plan to visit the Grand

Canyon. I’ve flown over it a couple of times on my way

to the west coast, but have never seen it up close. I am

looking forward to seeing some of the Arizona desert as

well.

when God made the earth, He created a majestic, beau-

tiful place, didn’t He? who would have ever dreamt of

having places as different in nature as the Arctic Circle

and the desert of Arizona? on top of it all, He created life

forms able to live comfortably in both. How wild is that?

It seems impossible to me that anyone can take a long

look at this planet and not see clear evidence of intel-

ligent design. The longer I live, the more I understand

what the Psalmist meant when he wrote: “Let the whole

earth tremble before the Lord; let all the inhabitants of

the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it came

into being; He commanded, and it came into existence.”

Psalm 33:8,9

I’ll hope to see you this Sunday, the Lord willing, ready to

praise Him for all He is and does.

the church, according to scripture, has Five purposes: worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism. Brushy Creek rightly has three emphases: rescue (evangelism), grow (discipleship), and serve (ministry). I say, ”rightly”, because every church will worship and fellowship, but rescue, grow, and serve must be intentional – otherwise they may not always continue.

we are living in a day when many churches in America are becoming less and less proactive in rescue, grow, and serve. And the first to go is always rescue.

why is this? I think it’s rather simple. our enemy, the devil, is perfectly happy with our churches if we do whatever we want, so long as we don’t do two things: 1) talk to God about the lost; and 2) talk to the lost about God.

Dr. David wheeler made a convicting comment when he was with us last year. He said, “the church does have five purposes, but they do not all have equal impact. Evangelism is not one of five similar components, evangelism is the

catalyst of the other four.” And Dr. wheeler used a science experiment to make his point. He said, “you can put baking soda into a toy rocket and it will just sit there. It is only when you mix vinegar with the baking soda that the rocket launches.” Dr. wheeler went on to make his point that evangelism/rescue is the catalyst of the other four purposes of the church. without it, the church just sits there. with it, everything is energized.

I have a growing conviction that there are actually two catalysts to the church launching. one is rescue. The other is prayer. As to which is more important, that may be like asking which is more important on an airplane, the right wing or the left wing?

If you would like to talk with me about being part of a Rescue Prayer Team, please email me at [email protected]. I will be coordinating men’s and women’s teams that will meet regularly to train, pray, and encourage one another in rescue.

The senior Adult Ministry by Robbie Sox | Minister of Music

i want to share with you a good principle For our homes. Moms and dads, when we are home, BE HoME! My wife, jocelyn, put this interesting article on our refrigerator. The picture alone gives the message. There is a man who has come home from work still talking on his cell-phone with his son hanging around his leg. without reading a word you realize this child is ready to wrestle in the floor with dad, but dad is still preoccupied with his job. I hate to

admit it. That picture is too often a reality in our home as well. I know there are times we have to take care of things that are urgent. The reason people call you at home is THEy nEED you RIGHT now! But, there are many times that whatever is needed can wait until you return to work in the morning.

I can’t believe my son will be seven in August. I’ve got lots of wrestling to do in a hurry!

Wherever You Are, Be All There by David Kay | Associate Pastor

This month our shut-in visitation ministry, sam, starts their 12th year.

I want to thank Pat and joanne Perrin for having the vision to start this ministry and coordinating it for these past 11 years. They do an excellent job!

Each week we have a team of visitors in homes and nursing homes ministering to those who can’t get to church. This ministry also tries to meet physical needs that these seniors have at home, as well cards of encouragement and phone calls.

over the past 11 years sam has made more than 25,000 visits.

would you like to be a part of these teams? Do you know of someone who needs to be visited? Contact Pat or joanne at 864-292-0153.

wow! i can not say enough good things about this year’s disciplenow. our students did a fantastic job of serving in joanna, SC. In four, very short days, roughly 70 people left a mark on Christ Central Ministries in a very good way! Here is the run down of everything that was accomplished:

1. Removed trash, furniture, and ceiling tiles from the basement 2. Spray painted 50 chairs 3. Sanded and painted front and side entrance doors 4. Demolished a piano and removed the waste 5. Removed

all shelving, furniture, and other items from food donation room. Then painted the floor – TwICE! 6. Sanded and stained tables in the after school program room 7. Mowed lawns for 15 families in the community 8. Sorted 39 boxes of winter clothes and stored for next season 9. Participated in Tuesday and wednesday night games & devotion time 10. Removed torn netting on playground equipment and replaced with new netting. 11. Installed play ground equipment donated by Brushy Creek Baptist. 12. Spread 17 yards of mulch around the new play ground 13.

Sanded three coats of paint from hand-rails, then repainted 14. Sanded the stairs to the food pantry, then painted and applied a coat of polyurethane 15. Stuffed 3,253 Easter eggs for Easter egg hunt in joanna and at Brushy Creek 16. Planned and carried out a community-wide Easter Egg Hunt and Block Party with over 200 people in attendance.

For those parents of students who attended, you should be extremely proud of the way your child represented Christ, themselves, and our church.

the season oF summer is upon us. Are you looking for some fun things to do? Here is a list of a few activities you can do at home with your children this summer.

1. Go on a nature walk. This is a great time to talk about God’s creation. Collect things along your walk. when you get home, sort the items you collected.

2. Tell the story of noah and the Ark. Make a list of animals. Go outside and lay in the grass. Look up at the clouds and see if you can see any of the animals on your list.

3. Fill a large pool with water or sand. Bring out household items such as pots, cups, bowls, etc. Have your child fill up the items and discover which item holds more water.

4. Go on a scavenger hunt. Make a list of things to look for (the neighbor-hood entrance sign, mailboxes, trees,

etc.). Check off each item as you find it. Here is a great website that has more scavenger hunt ideas: Christian-Parent.com/fun-summer-scavenger-hunts-for-kids/

5. you can make play dough with your child for yourself or others. Here is the recipe:

Combineinsaucepan: 2 c. flour, 1 c. salt, and

4 t. cream of tarter

Combine: 2 c. water, 2 T. oil, and 2 t. food coloring

Stir into dry ingredients. Cook overmedium heat, stirring until a ballforms.Removefromheatandknead.

6. Make a lunch and have a picnic. If it is raining, spread a blanket out in the house and have an indoor picnic.

7. Get a list of people from our church that are in need of encouragement or that are shut-ins. Have your child write them a letter or draw them a picture and then mail them. This can be very uplifting for the person that receives them.

8. Children love to go camping. you can set up a tent in your own backyard and have just as much fun as going to a campsite.

Wehope youenjoy theseactivities andhaveafunfilledsummer!

awana was a huge success this year. we could not have done it without our great leaders!

would you like to make a difference in the life of a child? you can...by helping out with AwAnA next year! we need leaders to listen to Bible verses during handbook time, leaders to help run games and leaders to help with music. no preparation is needed, just a willing heart to serve our beautiful children.

Women’s Ministry internationaL woMen’s night re-CaP

on March 4, 2011, Living Fragrance women’s Ministry sponsored an International women’s night here at our church. our theme this year was “Reaching out”. 156 women attended the event. Many countries, languages and cultures were represented at the event. It was a wonderful night of fellowship and learning about other cultures. But, most importantly,

it was a night of celebration of our Savior

jesus Christ. no matter what language

or nation they represented, they were

all worshiping God and praising him for

salvation through Christ jesus. we had an

amazing worship time led by Spring well

Baptist Church worship team. Ladies from

England, India, and Columbia shared their

testimonies and encouraged everyone that

no matter where you are, Christ sees you

and is reaching out to you. These ladies

also shared how they have been saved,

and how they are passionately reaching

out to others. The love of the Lord and a

passion for Christ was very evident that

night. The event also included an interna-

tional cuisine prepared by several inter-

national members from BCBC. Everyone

thoroughly enjoyed the food...there was

nothing left. The best part of the event was

when two ladies accepted Christ as their

Savior. To God be the glory.

ChristMas in juLy Saturday, July 30

Christmas in july will be in the ARC at Brushy Creek on Saturday, july 30 from 9:30am-12ish. The purpose of this event is to raise

money for operation Christmas Child, a ministry devoted to sharing God’s love and the Good news of jesus Christ with needy children

around the world. Admission to the event is $5 per person and 1 shoebox item - all the money goes toward shipping for shoeboxes.

Guests will need to register ahead of time in the breezeway or online. Childcare will be provided for anyone that registers and requests

it. The format is a brunch with speakers/music followed by a market where guests will have the opportunity to purchase beautiful hand-

made goods and other fine products. All vendors that participate are asked to donate 10% of their proceeds to Brushy Creek that will be

sent to operation Christmas Child. one unique thing about our speaker this year is that she was the recipient of a shoebox as a child.
