What makes a superhero? Is it the cape? The ability to fly? Superhuman strength? Rescuing innocent bystanders? During Vacaon Bible School (VBS) this year, the theme is going to center around how God makes heroes. When we think about the Bible stories of heroes they aren’t described like the heroes out of comic books and movies, but they are sll pre(y spectacular! God uses ordinary people in amaz- ing, unexpected ways! God’s heroes have heart, courage, wisdom, hope, and power! Are you one of God’s heroes? During the last week of June at VBS our children will learn about the qualies God develops in humans to develop them into heroes. During our June worship services we’ll also explore some of the same Scripture passages they’ll learn about during VBS and examine how God is building us into servants who can heroically respond to God’s presence in our lives. Our first Sunday in June is UMW Sunday. The United Methodist Women will lead worship and share about their impact in our community and beyond. On this Sunday we will have a combined service, beginning at 10am, with a light lunch to follow and then Change the World service projects in the a9ernoon. I want to thank the UMW for leading worship that Sunday, as I seek to ‘change the world’ during a tour in Florida at Tyndall AFB. I will pray for you, and invite your prayers for me as I seek to encourage Airmen and their families. I will be back to lead worship and be with you on Sunday June 11 th . I also want to invite families to connect with me about a new family devoonal project I’m starng with my family! I must confess that with busy schedules we have struggled to have a healthy devo- onal pa(ern. This summer, as school ends, I hope to improve that. We’re going to have a fun, and hopefully excing me learning together in God’s Word. If you’d like to learn more about the ap- proach I’m taking and resources I’m using, I will have copies available, just let me know. May God bless you as you seek to grow with Christ this summer! I hope to see you Sunday! MISSION UPDATE...
Two members of our congregaon will be traveling to Rus-
sia this summer as short term missionaries. Because of
me consideraons of the planned projects and con-
flicng schedules, this has now turned into two trips. Dave
Naser will be traveling to Camp Voronezh on July 20 with a
team from the East Ohio Conference led by Pastor Bob My-
ers of Chagrin Falls, OH. Mindy Bogue will be leaving on
July 28 to work with Pastor Irina Mina in Kerch on a trip
led by Pastor Charles Harrell of St. Paul’s UMC in Lusby,
MD and will include team members from the Balmore-
Washington Conference. Both Dave and Mindy will fly in
and out of Moscow and have a few days to visit the Krem-
lin and other tourist a(racons in that city before return-
ing.
Camp Voronezh is located near the large city of Voronezh.
The camp has been used by the United Methodist Church
for years and provides camp experiences for children and
youth groups, but it is in need of renovaon. The mission
team will be working to provide and upgrade plumbing for
the cabins at the camp, as well as interacng with the
campers. Donaons for the materials for the project can
be made through our church. It will be excing to see
what God is doing with his church in Russia through the
camp.
The Kerch project will be involved with Pastor Irina’s mis-
sion to improve the lives of the Roma people, commonly
called gypsies. This group is very different culturally—
there are poor job opportunies, large families, and lim-
ited educaonal opportunies for these people who also
marry and have children at a very young age. They are also
distrusPul of strangers, especially Americans, so Mindy’s
work will be more involved with building the school facili-
es. Surely, Pastor Irina will have more to share about this
excing project when she visits us on May 7.
Both Mindy and Dave are looking for small souvenirs to
take along with them as tokens of support from our con-
gregaon. Li(le items like bookmarks, magnets, and key-
chains which say “Luray” or “Virginia” or “U.S.” are treas-
ured by people they will meet on the trips and can be
dropped off at the church.
Make any checks payable to:
LUMC and mark Russia in the memo
secon so that we can properly
allocate. Thank you for your Prayers
and Support!

Luray United Methodist Preschool (LUMP)
We are enjoyed a great year at “the best little preschool in Luray”. This past winter,
the Three year class grew past its original limit of six children to eight. Susan Lloyd teaches this class with the help of Jane Thompson. Sue Raeburn is keeping the Four year class at its limit of six this year. Currently we are FULL for the 2017-2018 School year! Our Two Four year classes and the Three Year class each have a waiting list.
Growth abounds as kids learn to share, cooperate, sit and listen, write their names and letters. We’ve grown into a definite family and have a lot of fun to-gether!
We are thankful for the support our preschool re-ceives from our church. Drop in sometime and visit us. God is good!
