Vol. 29 October 2017 Number 10 THE CHURCH VOICE from me to you………… Dear friends in Christ, What is your favorite hymn? Have we sung it in worship lately? We are blessed to have 852 hymns to choose from in our “Glory to God” hymnal. I hope your favorite hymn is in our hymnal but if it’s not I would still like to know what that hymn is. From time to time we print a hymn as an insert to our Sunday morning bulletin. Obviously our song sheets at the Summer Beach Services are printed on a handout but we usually use the very same hymns in our 11:00 worship in the Sanctuary. I work closely with Barry Auman and Randy Warner in selecting the hymns for our worship services. If you will let me know your favorite I can tell you when we last sang that hymn and, hopefully, when we will sing it again. With only two hymns each Sunday, I probably won’t live long enough to sing all 852 in “Glory to God” but I hope we will sing your favorite hymn one Sunday soon. Thank you for your support of the Peace & Global Witness Offering that was collected on World Communion Sunday. Our local CROP Walk will take place on Sunday, Nov. 5. If you would like to be a walker or sponsor a walker please see Sarah or Larry Cook. Following the Walk, everyone is invited to a Praise in the Park celebration at Mulberry Park - hope to see you there. Our Secretary, Stephanie Reeves, is looking forward to her maternity leave in November and December. And we look forward to her return in January! We need help in answering the church office phone while Stephanie is out. Our former Secretary, Betty Dattler, is coordinating the volunteers. If you have a morning per week or a morning per month or some other time you can help in the church office, please contact Betty at 579-7954. In worship this month we will hear announcements about next month’s Consecration Sunday and how you can be involved in Operation Christmas Child. We have much to celebrate and much to share. God bless you. In God’s Grace,

The Presbyterian Women’s three circles are off to the phenomenal start this year. Circle
#1 is co-moderated by Marie Green and Elizabeth Lewis. The Joyce Skeen Circle is led by Donna Trest and Molly Frederick. Glenda Morton and Nancy Bain will co-moderate the Faith Circle. Participating in Bible study and mission projects while enjoying fellowship with women of faith deepens Christian commitment in our church and the greater community. These leaders invite you to join the circle of your choice. (See the schedule of meeting dates and times published in this newsletter.
The Bible study this year for both Circle #1 and the Joyce Skeen Circle is Cloud of Witnesses—The Community of Christ in Hebrews by Melissa Bane Sevier. This study approaches Hebrews through the lenses of peace, peacemaking, and hope. She was asked to feature in each lesson stories about women who have been witnesses to faith. It highlights Hebrews chapters 1, 12 and 13. Faith Circle is studying the book, You’re Already Amazing, by Holley Garth.
Circle #1 had 13 members present in September, including one new member. Rev. John Causey taught the Bible lesson. Twenty-one members of the Joyce Skeen Circle were present. The Bible study was taught by Jane Townsend. Faith Circle met at the home of Cindy Black with 9 present. Leslie Williams taught the lesson.
This month Circle #1 provided a large donation to Brunswick County Hospice House. Paper products, drinks, snacks, as well as foods for breakfast, lunch , and dessert were provided. The cabinets at Hospice House were organized and labeled for ease of use. A donation was also given in memory of Margaret Wright, a member who passed away this past summer.
The Joyce Skeen Circle made plans to support the Mission project of providing “Comfort Socks” for the homeless. There is a basket in the church office for these donations. Additionally, members will bring small gift items for donation to the Shallotte Middle School Pirate Store. These items are used as rewards for deserving students.
Faith Circle made plans to provide Halloween treats for the Friendship Class. These will be brought to the October meeting. They are also supporting the “Comfort Socks” mission project.
