1 THE BIDWILL BUSH TELEGRAPH Newsletter Term 3 Week 9 13th September 2017 Bidwill Public School Principal : Mrs Toni Thomas Bunya Rd, Bidwill 2770 Phone : 9628-2444 Email : [email protected]Fax : 9628-0480 From the Principal We are at that time of year again were we start to plan for the new school year. We have already started our pre- kindergarten playgroup held each Thursday morning. We welcome parent and their soon to be 5 year olds along for some school preparation time. The current preschool children have been visiting our kinder- garten classrooms getting to know more about ‘big school’. Our 2018 Kindergarten transi- tion to school programs com- mence early next term. Simi- larly our Year 6 students will commence their transition to High School with visits to Chifley College Bidwill cam- pus planned for Term 4. It’s always a very exciting time of the school year. Please ensure you have enrolled in school if your child is turning 5 before July 31 st 2018. We are also accepting 2018 expressions of interest for our Preschool. This Saturday we have a stall at Bidwill Festival to support our community. Our dancers and choir will be preforming at the Festival. Please come along and join in the day’s fes- tivities. This is our last newsletter for the Term; I would like to wish all our families a relaxing break for the school routines. Mrs Toni Thomas Our school is committed to building a safe and happy environment for students, staff, parents and the broader community. We encourage parents and carers to advocate strongly on their child’s behalf and, as part of this, expect them to raise concerns about their child. Sometimes these concerns may relate to the way a child may have been treated by another stu- dent at this school. It is natural for parents and carers to feel protective of their children. However you must not raise any concerns you have about behaviour of another child directly with that child (or his or her parents while they are at school) but should instead report your con- cerns to the principal or a member of the executive team. Your concerns will be taken seriously and responded to promptly. If a parent, carer or other community member raises their concerns directly with a child (or their parents while they are at school) this may result in the access that person has to the school site being restricted or withdrawn. We greatly value the contribution parents, carers and other community members make to the school community and do not wish to take any action that impacts on their participation in school activities. Please let us know if you have concerns about the behaviour of another person’s child while they are at the school or on school related activities. Raising your concerns directly with the child (or his or her parents while they are at school) could result in your access to the school site being restricted or withdrawn.

As part of our school uniform, students are re-minded to wear a hat at school. All students are expected to wear a hat during lunch and when participating in sport. The office have Bidwill Public School caps for sale for $10 or bucket hats for $5.
You can help by reminding all students to bring a hat to school. This will be very much appreci-ated.
Last Thursday the 7th of September, Stage 3 went on an excursion to Sydney Aquarium. On the way there, we went over the Harbour Bridge and saw landmarks such as the Opera House.
When we arrived we had a lesson on the Great Barrier Reef as that's what we are studying in Geography. We learnt about different creatures as well as the threats to the Great Barrier Reef. We learnt about different sharks and got to look at and hold their jaws and eggs. After that, we went through the whole aquarium with our teachers and we got to see animals such as dugongs, sharks, fish and stingrays. We went through the tunnels and saw all different marine animals and types of coral. We were so lucky to visit the Penguin Encounter where we went on a raft and saw lots of penguins. Some were walking, some were laying down and some were diving in the water. At the end of our visit, we got to touch coral, sea cucumbers, shark eggs, sea sponges and other living things in the rock pool. After that, we boarded the bus and went back to school. It was a great day and I learnt a lot.

LIFE EDUCATION - HEALTHY HAROLD
In Term 4 students from Preschool – Year 6 will have the opportunity to
engage in the Life Education Program with Healthy Harold. By taking part
in a health education module children are encouraged to develop relation-
ship skills, positive communication, problem solving and decision making
skills.
We provide students the opportunity to develop strategies, and practise the
skills required to avoid the harms associated with an unhealthy lifestyle.
