Despite being an eleven week marathon, this term feels to have gone by quite quickly, for me anyway. Congratulations to our Kindy students who have made it through their first term at big school. I’m sure they, like all of our other students, are looking forward to a good rest in the school holiday break. Camp Memories Stage 2 had a great time away at camp at the end of week 9. During my visit on Thursday afternoon, everyone was very excited and looking forward to the activities and sleep over. It was great to see students being courageous and stepping out of their comfort zone to try new things. The vertical tower proved daunting for many, however by encouraging each other and working as a team, everyone was able to have a go and reach new heights! Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Stage 3 camp to Dubbo, Wellington Caves and Bathurst. What a fantastic week away it was with our senior students. Despite the cooler nights and mornings, we enjoyed fantastic weather in which to appreciate the beauty of country NSW. For many teachers and students, the bike tour of Dubbo zoo was the highlight. values the camp experience as a precious part of growing up. The memories and friendships formed at camp can last a lifetime. Seeing our students having such a great time at camp, learning together, developing greater independence and self-sufficiency, is why we do it. Thank you to all of our wonderful staff who have been involved in the planning and supervision of both our Stage 2 and Stage 3 camps this term.

Bon Voyage Next term Danielle, our School Administration Manager (SAM) will be taking 12 months off. While we will miss Dani’s professionalism, warmth and attention to detail in the office, we are fortunate to be welcoming Mrs Karen Bowmer into our school as relieving SAM. Karen is the substantive SAM at Lilli Pilli PS. Her experience and knowledge will be an asset to our school. Dani will finish up on Friday of week 2 with Karen commencing on Monday of week 3. We all wish Dani well during her time away from the Yarrawarrah PS community.

Enjoy the Break I wish all of our students, staff and school community a very restful Easter holiday break. Thank you for the support and encouragement you have shown to each other, and to me during this first term of the year. Look after yourself, each other and stay safe. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school, ready to do it all again in Term 2.

P&C News An update from our last P&C Meeting: The Committee discussed the costs involved in having our own

EFTPOS machine- we are currently paying just under $900 per year in fees. While we all agree that we need to continue having our machine for the uniform shop and fundraising as an option as not all people will have cash available, or need to make more purchases than the cash they have- it has also been awesome at our Trivia Night paying for Silent Auctions or withdrawing cash to purchase more raffle tickets. Moving forward from tomorrow (5th April, 2019) onwards we are introducing a 3% surcharge to cover the costs of running the EFT Terminal so we can continue to provide this service and being mindful we are not for profit and all funds raised go back into the YPS School Community. For example, if you purchase uniforms at the cost of $24, the new price will be $24.72. We welcome any discussions about this, you can always send queries to: [email protected] and I will take to the next P&C Meeting on your behalf. Thank you for your understanding. We will also place this update in the next school newsletter so all in our community are aware. And a massive thank you to all of your ongoing amazing support! Regards, YPS P&C Committee 🍃🍃

Easter Raffle Ticket Reminder Don’t forget to return your Raffle tickets (book of 10 at

$2 each or 3 for $5) by tomorrow morning Thursday 11th April. Please also bring in any last minute donations of eggs/Easter hamper items by tomorrow afternoon. We appreciate your assistance in selling these tickets and are grateful for your continued support for the school. If you would like additional tickets, there will be more on sale at the Easter hat parade on Friday 12th April at 12.15pm. Thank you for the generous donations again this year as we have many hampers to be won! Thanks Karen Ezzy & the P & C Fundraising Team Yarra Dads

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HUMAN SPACE FLIGHT, WORLD HEALTH DAY & EASTER AT CAMP AUSTRALIA YARRAWARRAH

9th APRIL, 2019

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• If your child has a current medical management plan at the service, the “Medical Authorisation Form” for Term 2 must be signed, prior to your child’s first attendance next term. Please call into the service this term to sign the authorisation form.

• Don’t forget to book for next term if you have not already done so in order for your children to join in the various range of fun and educational activities provided by Camp Australia.

Hi Everyone, The holiday break is almost upon us and we want to wish you all a safe, relaxing and fun holiday. We hope to see you all back in Term 2 for more awesome activities!!! I would like to thank all the children for their enthusiastic and wonderful participation at the centre this term. There has been lots of fun, with a wide variety of activities/learning experiences offered in our program, supporting achievement of our learning outcomes. Thanks also to the school, community and of course the families, for their support and involvement with the service. Special thanks to Mr.Austen for all his wonderful support of the centre. School and family support of the service is always very much appreciated. I’d like to extend a thank you to all centre Educators who work hard to ensure your children are provided with fun and educational activities in a supportive and caring environment. Our Educators strive to ensure that your children are happy, safe, well cared for and respected whilst in our care. We hope you and your children continue to enjoy Camp Australia throughout Term 2. We have had consistent Educators working at the service this term with Naomi & Rhiannon assisting me, along with Victoria, who started with us this year. We have also had other casual Educators when staff have been away or when our numbers have increased. It is lovely to work with staff who truly care about the children. Always feel free to provide any feedback in order to assist us in our continuing quality improvement plan.

If you are happy with the staff’s efforts we would love you to provide feedback on the Camp Australia website as often as you like. We receive points for positive feedback and these give us entries into a prize draw each term in which both the staff member and service receive a reward if we are lucky enough to win the draw. This would greatly benefit the service. Thank you so much if you are able to nominate the staff.

Last week was International Children’s Book Day and we celebrated with reading books & the children creating their own books. This was an engaging activity for a wide range of ages and promoted creativity and confidence.

Page 9: The Old Bush Telegraph

Last week, sport, such as soccer and handball, and peace activities, such as Yoga and peace signs, encouraged the children’s interest in International Day of Sport for Development & Peace. The children also made healthy creations from recycled items as part of World Health Day. As part of our Easter celebrations the children enjoyed bunny pancakes yesterday morning and we are having an Easter party this Thursday afternoon. The Easter Bunny visited us last night leaving bunny fluff everywhere and huge footprints. The Easter Bunny enjoyed our carrots that the children left near their Easter baskets and left every child a basket of surprises. In line with our Healthy Eating program we asked the bunny to bring toys and other novelties rather than Easter eggs.

The children have been joining in group games, including “Simon Says”, “Bob & Stand” & “I Spy” . We will be offering other indoor and outdoor activities for the children to participate in for the remainder of the week. We have continued to offer Easter & Mother’s Day crafts as the children are very eager to take home gifts they have created. Space activities, such as creating rockets and planets from recycled items, will be encouraged as part of International Day of Human Space Flight this week.

Congratulations to all children on their great participation this term. Each and every one of you make our service the friendly, happy place that it is for the families.

Camp Australia operates Holiday Clubs from various venues. Please check the website for your nearest service. There are some wonderful activities for your children to enjoy over the two weeks break.
