In our busy and hectic lives, time is always a state-ment away. Phrases consume us with “what time is it, in the good ole summertime, what do you do with your time”. Focus on few things and realize

what time has done.

How many of our members recall the time of the great Depression. Coming out of the depression to the time of a World War. How did you spend your time when in the 1940’s you were ages 17 to 22? Did you spend your time in Europe or in the far east Indian Ocean or do some Asian island hopping? The Greatest Gener-ation experienced not the greatest times but deserve our greatest honor.

No sooner are those WW II Veterans home than another war is entitled the Forgotten War. A foreign country is divided as North and South. From The Commander

WELCOME BACK LEGIONNAIRES, Sons and Aux-iliary members! It’s hard to believe that Summer is over and Fall is upon us! It was a good Summer at

YOUR Nathaniel Adams Blanchard American Legion Post 1040 and I truly hope your Summer was as well. A lot of exciting things happening at YOUR Post. September will get us off to a great year.

First, I want to invite all of you to our Welcome Back Party on Sunday, September 13th. 5:00pm / 17:00 for you mili-tary types. It will be a great time to see everyone at YOUR Post and mingle with your Post officers. You’ll also be able to enjoy some great food and have a beverage or two. On October 10th is the 20 week Club Dinner. We are always looking for new members to join 20 week Club. Also on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm / 19:30 we draw the Queen of hearts Tournament. As the prize gets bigger more people come out for this event.

Thanks to the Sons’ Squadron Commander and his officers and members who are working diligently with me on various activities at the Post through the coming year. I would like to thank them for buying kitchen equipment for downstairs behind the lounge hall. We are looking forward to working close with the Sons on events and improvements at the Post. The Sons are a very important part of this Post.

I would like to invite you to look at the Post’s Web site at nabpost1040.us and Facebook American Legion Post 1040 page. This is the best way to stay informed as to what and when things are happening at the Post. I am hoping to cut the number of 1040s we print and mail thus saving the Post money in the near future. Also we have started a LIFT A VET page on Gofundme.com and are hoping to collect money to put an elevator in the existing building to improve accessibility for the upstairs and down stairs, this will help all that use the building going forward. And it may help us attract new members that have returned with mobility issues from the last two Wars.

Again, THANKS! To all for the hard work at making this a great Post. Look forward to seeing you on Sunday, September 13th at the Welcome Back Party!!!

Sons of the Legion News

Welcome back members! I hope everyone had a safe Summer.

We had a few events in August. I hope you had a chance to attend.

As I start my third year as Command-er, I am looking forward to working with the Board of Directors and the Legion’s new Com-mander, Scott Anson. I am looking for ideas from members for new projects we can work on. I hope to see all new members at our monthly meetings.

Sincerely, Commander Levine

Legion Auxiliary News

This has been a strange Summer with many climate changes. Ex-treme heat and humidity followed

by tremendous storms. I trust you all got through it without any appreciable damage.

Good luck to our retiring Secretary, Dale Lukatschat and welcome to our new Secretary, Stephanie Mosh-er. We should have an enjoyable year.

We have been assessed 197 members this year; this is an increase of 33 members. If we all work together, maybe we can make 100% again. Dues are still $25. Please advise us of any address changes. We appre-ciate your copoeration.

A Halloween party has been scheduled for October 24, 2015. Come, enjoy and have fun!

We purchased a box of pillows from Walmart for the VA Hospital. In addition, they gave us a gift certificate and we purchased a second box. It feels so good to be able to double our gifts to the VA Hospital for the items they need.

The Auxiliary is always looking for yarn lap top robes, pillow covers, aluminum pull tabs, manufacturers’ coupons, box tops for education, cancelled stamps and items for the soldier boxes. Keep up the good work and let’s have a successful year!

From The Chairman

Around the House. Fall is upon us, with many events, starting with the Welcome Back Party Sunday, Sept. 13th. This party

is one of our best of the year. It’s a good chance to meet the officers from all three of our organizations. Please call for a reservation, as we don’t want to run out of shrimp.

There are still a couple of rooms left for our Mohegan Sun overnight trip Oct. 3rd and 4th. See our display ad.

The Board of Directors made 2 appoint-ments at the July meeting. Scott An-son will be The House Chairman, and George Lendhardt will be Chairman of the Queen of Hearts Tournament. The best of luck to both Scott and George in their new positions.

Watch your e-mails and Ten Forty Times for upcoming events. Hope to see you at the Welcome Back Party!
