FALL OPEN HOUSE AND BOOK FAIR Come join us for the BHE Fall Open House and Book Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 15th from 5-8pm. The evening includes dinner, open house, bake sale and book fair. For those of you who pre-ordered, dinner will be served from 5-6:30pm in the cafeteria. Unfortunately, the deadline for ordering dinner has passed, and there will be no tickets sold at the door.
Classrooms will be open from 6-7pm for visitation. The Book Fair will be taking place in the BHE library from 4-7:30pm. And the Faculty and Staff Holiday Bake Sale helping families in
need will be happening in the hallway in front of the gym. Hope to see you there!
EUREKA!
Come enjoy a wonderful learning experience with your child! Our 100% PTA funded Eureka Science program encourages students to think, feel, and predict what the outcomes may be by exploring science...HANDS ON! The parent volunteers help on different "stations" and supervise the students. Eureka is a fun way of exploring science with your child and the kids love the program! Contrary to what you might think, no science knowledge is necessary! Eureka runs 4 experiments per grade level during the school year. Each session runs about 45 minutes. The next Eureka! session is for 1st Grade on Wednesday, November 9th. Shifts for 1st Grade are: 8:25-9:30am – Munger/Belin 9:25-10:30am – Blankenship/DiNapoli 10:55am-Noon –Ruggiero/Atkinson 1:45-2:50pm – Custer/Kirby If you are interested in volunteering, please click here. The Watch D.O.G.S. program is up and running. You will have the opportunity to spend a day on the BHE campus helping out teachers and students in a variety of ways. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
BHE is always in need of volunteers to help keep the school going. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities around the school. Please see the flyer for all of the different areas available for you to help out
Yearbooks are available for purchase now for $35. Yearbook recognition ads are available for $15 for a 1/8 page. The Ad deadline is February 16, 2017. See the following ad for more details. If you have not purchased a yearbook from last year (2015-2016), we have a few yearbooks with minor damage which are available for $30. Please email the yearbook team at [email protected] if you are interested in a yearbook and we can make arrangements for you to purchase it at the front office.

. HELP OUT IN THE CAFETERIA!
We are looking for Moms, Dads, Guardians, Grandparents (any adult family member) to assist students in the BHE lunchroom. No experience necessary! No selling, buying or coordinating! Hand out napkins, open ketchup packets, and listen to bad knock-knock jokes. Be a part of your kid(s) elementary school experience by giving two hours either one day a week or every other week, or pick your days à la carte. Lunch starts at 11:10am and runs through 1:10pm. You can sign up on-line using Sign Up Genius or simply email Viv Akpovwa your desired day(s) / questions at [email protected].
ELEMENTARY GIFTED & TALENTED SCREENING, GRADES 1-4 The gifted and talented program in Katy ISD serves elementary students with a one day per week pullout program. If you would like your 1st -4th grade child screened for Challenge for the 2017-18 school year, please request an Elementary Parent Checklist from the front office beginning November 3. The Parent Checklist form is also available online from www.katyisd.org. Look under Departments > Gifted and Talented. Completed forms must be returned to the Challenge teacher by Friday, December 9, 2016 On November 14 @ 7:00 pm, in room 1200 at the Education Support Complex, a Parent Awareness Session will be held for parents of students in grades 1-4 and 6-11 who are interested in screening their child for the GT program. HONORING OUR MILITARY
BHE is creating a “Wall of Honor” to spotlight veterans and current service members. Please see the
flyers at the end of the newsletter for details. Forms are due NOVEMBER 9.
Instructional Technology has created an informational site for parents, called T.I.P. which stands for Technology Information for Parents. This site contains instructional videos for parents on a variety of KISD applications such as Canvas, MyKaty Cloud, Office 365, technology outages as well as information on Digital Responsibility to name a few. The Division of Technology as well as other departments will continue to add information to this site to inform parents of the digital tools that are available to them outside of school. Parents can also submit suggestions for additional information that is needed. BE A JA REPRESENTATIVE IN YOUR CHILD’S CLASSROOM Our school has a unique opportunity this year to participate in Junior Achievement's Free Enterprise Education programs. The curriculum is interactive and fun. The secret ingredient is YOU, an involved parent sharing your life experience. We are seeking parent volunteers to teach 5 JA lessons during the regular school day. You will be trained and supported throughout the entire experience. All materials, lesson plans and activities are provided. If you are interested in being the Junior Achievement Representative for your child’s class, please email our JA Coordinator, Aglaen Kirk, at [email protected].
