The 12th Romanian Symposium of Palaeontology, organized by the Romanian Society of Palaeontologists and the Department of Geology of the Babeş-Bolyai University, will be held in Cluj-Napoca, September 19th to 21st, 2019.

VENUE The 12th Romanian Symposium of Palaeontology will be held at the Department of Geology of the Babeş-Bolyai University, 1 M. Kogălniceanu Str., Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
LANGUAGE OF THE SYMPOSIUM English will be the official language of the Symposium.

REGISTRATION FEE
Full, Non-SPR members 50 EUR (or the equivalent in RON) Full, SPR members: 30 EUR (or the equivalent in RON) Students, non-SPR members: 10 EUR (or the equivalent in RON) Students, SPR members: Free of charge. Symposium registration fee covers the coffee breaks during the symposium and the abstract - field trip volume.
Payment options The fees should be paid in cash at the registration desk at the beginning/during the symposium. MEETING SCHEDULE • Registration: starts on Wednesday, 18th September 2019 at 3:00 p.m. and will be open on Thursday 19th September 2019 from 8.00 to 9.00 a.m. • Opening session: starts on Thurstday, 19th September 2019 at 9:00 a.m. • Scientific Sessions: Thursday and Friday, 19th–20th September 2019 •The General Assembly of the RSP Members: Fiday, 20th September 2019 at 5:00 p.m. • Post-meeting field trip: Saturday, 21st September 2019
ACCOMMODATION Cluj-Napoca offers a wide range of accommodation facilities. Some discount reservations will be also available in the University’s hosting facilities (see table at the end).
SOCIAL PROGRAMME Icebreaker party - The icebreaker party will be held on Thursday, 19th September 2019, 7:00 p.m. at the venue of the Symposium. Post-symposium fieldtrip THE EOCENE FROM THE NW TRANSYLVANIAN BASIN Date: September 21 Leaders: Ioan I. Bucur, Emanoil Săsăran and George Pleş Duration: 1 day. Departure: Babeş-Bolyai University, Department of Geology, 1 M. Kogălniceanu str. (in front of the main entrance), 21th September 2019 (Saturday), 08:30 a.m. Return: same day, ~06:00 p.m. Transportation: Bus. Personal insurance: Not included in the fee; participants should have their own travel insurance. Description: Stop 1 – Letca Quarry. – Upper Eocene-lower Oligocene bio-constructed and bio-accumulated
limestones. Coralgal bioconstructions consist of bafflestones built-up by flat or dendriform coral
colonies. Ecological sequences can be recognized within these bioconstructions, with flat coral
colonies in the base encrusted by red algae, followed by dendriform corals associated with red
algae. Stop 2 – Cuciulat-Băbeni Quarry. The limestones from the ―Marble‖ quarry are mined as
ornamental building stones. The ―Marble‖ quarry from Cuciulat is located at about 1 km from
Băbeni village. Bioaccumulated and bioconstructed facies types have been identified. Stops 3 – Botanical Garden Jibou. The botanical garden of Jibou has a rich dendrological fund
of exotic plants. The basic dendrological sector dates back to 1781 and contains numerous and
valuable species The greenhouses contain various and valuable tropical, subtropical and
Mediterranean collections, the plants being grouped systematically or ecologically. The garden
also has an aquarium for tropical plant collections, a huge sector of ornamental plants, herbarium
and museum pieces.
