2 ARCHITECTURAL TERRACOTTA

Planners and building owners can now consider terracotta tiles whenever renovating and reconstruct-ing façades. With the new, attractively priced TERRART®-LIGHT product range, not only does NBK offer façade tiles in terracotta which stand up in any comparison with “standard” large-format façade elements in terms of material, form, surface, color and dimensions, but these can also be installed more quickly and cost-effectively thanks to a new type of installation system. At a maximum of 5’ (1,500 mm) in length, maximum 1’-3¾” (400 mm) in height and a low weight per unit area of approximately 6.75 lbs/sq.ft.(33 kg/m²), many old buildings can now obtain a new, attractive “face”. With just a few holes and dowels, the mount-ing brackets can be affixed to almost any façade. After insulation, the TERRART®-LIGHT façade can now be attached quickly, efficiently and securely, element by element, with the innovative “clip-and-hold” system. The system enables partial renovations to take place at any time, bringing modernity and tradition into har-mony. The exterior effect confirms the high standards and the quality which NBK Architectural Terracotta is committed to achieve in its tradition as a leading manufacturer of façade systems. The surface and colors, which are available in the established natural tones, also have a significant part to play in this. This façade is not only aesthetically pleasing but has been tested in accordance with AAMA 509-90 - “Voluntary Test and Classification Method for Drained and Back-Ventilated for Rainscreen Wall Cladding Systems.” This also meets the requirements regarding energy efficiency, durability and low costs.

Remarks: The tiles are made from natural materials, so small variations in color, size and consistency from the sample façade are unavoidable. All other formats, dimensions and special sizes are available on inquiry basis.Subject change without notice.Glazed terra cotta façade tiles and elements could show hairline cracks called Craquelé. This is a well know effect on glazed terra cotta ceramics which could appear in a short or over a longer period of time. The Craquelé will not affect any of the mechanical properties of the product. 16 INSTALLATION

Once the supporting brackets have been mounted, the T-profiles are precisely aligned and screwed onto the pre-punched brackets. Once the bearing wall has been insulated, the lower tile clips are secured using stainless steel pop rivets and the first tile positioned on this lower holder. The next tile holder can be secured when pressing the tile. Individual tiles can, where required, also be removed from a closed façade and re-placed.

ENGOBES 19 TERRART® engobes are becoming more and more popular. Whenever there‘s a need for a colored surface on the one hand but to conserve the natural character of the material on the other hand engobes are that perfect alternative. An engobe is a white or colored clay slip coating applied to a ceramic body to give it decorative color or improved texture. Engobes are manufactured in a single-fired process and do not have any coated edges.

TERRART® engobes are also developed in our laboratories according to the architect‘s demands, they are limited in their range of colors because of their specific mixture of raw materials but opening up a completely new dimension in facade design because of their unique and distinctive character. TERRART® engobes create buildings of tremendous aesthetic appeal, while reaping the benefits of one of the most weather resistant construction materials available.
