Stunning Operation Art Results!

As most of you would remember, our school has a long and proud tradition with entering this prestigious art competition. As a result, four of our most outstanding artworks were sent to Sydney earlier in the year, professionally framed and then exhibited at the Armory Gallery in Homebush during September and October. At the opening of this exhibition, further rounds of judging occurred. It gives us great pleasure to announce the following results: * Koby, "Wild Winter Face"- Paw Pick Award * Maisie, "Toucan in the Canopy"- Paw Pick Award * Shari, "The Emerald Butterfly"- Touring 50 and Paw Pick Award This year 796 artworks were exhibited at the Armory Gallery. Only 60 were selected for "Paw Pick" and these works will be used as teaching ideas for teacher professional learning. The "Touring 50" were again selected from the 796 and they will be exhibited at the Art Gallery of NSW in March and will then tour to regional galleries during 2018. We are incredibly proud of our Visual Arts Program at Milton Public School and the quality artworks that are consistently produced in our classrooms. We would like to congratulate Shari, Koby and Maisie on such exceptional results!

Year 6 Kids In2Uni Day

Year 6 had a brilliant taste of the life of a Uni student. They travelled all the way to Batemans Bay to enjoy the wonderful Kids In2Uni experience, and were not disappointed. The campus provided a healthy recess, before the groups moved on to their activities. They included art, nursing simulation, business, law, marketing, creative arts, exercise science and many others. Students moved from group to group, immersing themselves in all the fun and engaging activities that were offered on the day. The staff on campus were friendly and funny, and explained to the groups how to do their activities very well. Overall it was a great way to spend a day, and Year 6 is positive that they would enjoy going to Uni. The teachers look forward to having this day again next year!

Library Stocktake

This week will be the last week of borrowing books from the library for all students. This will allow two weeks for all books to be returned to the school library for a major stocktake. Please look high and low for any books that may have been lost over the last few years. All returns would be greatly appreciated. Notices will be sent out to students with overdue books in the coming weeks. Thank you for your cooperation.

International Day of Disabilities

Tomorrow, Wednesday 29th November there will be a

special assembly at Milton Public School at 10.00am, celebrating and raising awareness of people with disabilities.

Our Y1-2 and Y3-6 Choirs have been invited to sing at the Milton Village Christmas Carols to be held at the Milton Village Green on Tuesday 5th December at 5.30pm. Students will need to meet Mr Rutherford and Mrs Hicks at the Milton Village Green at 5.15pm.

Breaking News!

Milton Magic, one of our successful LEGO Robotics teams, has been selected to compete at the National First Lego League Tournament on the 2nd and 3rd December in Sydney – this weekend! Congratulations team. We wish you all the best. The Robotics students with their Lego League Certificates from their recent competition.

Did You Know?

Almost 3 in every 100 children have a peanut allergy. Even trace amounts of peanut or tree nuts can trigger an allergy and kill a child. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can cause itchy rash, throat or tongue swelling, shortness of breath, vomiting, light-headedness, low blood pressure and cardiac arrest. Tragically, Australian children have died at school from nut allergies. There are several children at Milton Public School who have a life-threatening nut allergy. Our school strongly encourages you to help minimise harm to those students by not sending nuts or nut products to school. Your assistance and understanding is very much appreciated.

NSW Premiers Reading Challenge

Congratulations to the following students on receiving their Premier’s Reading Challenge Gold Certificate. The students have successfully completed the challenge 4 years in a row. All participation certificates will be handed to students during the week. Well done to all those students who completed the challenge this year. It was the largest completion rate for Milton Public School with 332 students successfully meeting the reading requirements. Gold Awardees Annabelle, Brianna, Brooke, Claire, Cody, Crystal, Ebony, Emanuelle, Emma-Jane, Esther, Freya, Harry, Lulu, Maddison, Maggie, Marli, Mia, Paige, Rebecca, Ruby, Sophie, Zoe, Anika, and Avara.

School Hats

The warmer weather is upon us, so it is paramount that students wear a blue school hat at all times when outside. As previously advised the school uniform policy requires a broad brimmed royal blue hat, but we have accepted the bucket style hat also. This policy has been developed in line with the Department of Education’s Sun Safe regulations. Students will not be permitted to play on the oval or open areas without a school hat. The bucket hat with gold piping is available from the front office at a minimal cost of $6.00. We thank you for your support.

MPS Breakfast Program

Each morning students may take advantage of our early opening canteen breakfast menu available from 9:00am. Milo - $1.20 Bowl of cereal - $2.00 Selection of fresh fruit - free (generously provided by the P&C) In addition to this menu, we are now able to offer toast for free each morning. This is because local plumbing legends J&T Plumbing has generously provided funding for a commercial toaster. Milton Bakery and Milton IGA has also come on board and offered bread for toasting each day.
