The NSW Public Schools Drama Ensemble program represents the best drama students from Year 5-Year 12 from across the state. Like being selected for a state sport’s team or being a state champion debater, these students now represent their school at the state level in drama. To gain a position in the program, students must audition against hundreds of others and each Ensemble only has 24 students. Each Wednesday after school they attend The Arts Unit in Lewisham to spend two intensive hours skill-building and devising a piece for the State Drama Festival in October. They spend over 100 hours throughout the year collaborating with other members of the ensemble to produce work of excellence that goes on display to the public and showcases the excellence of the arts in public education. Put the dates of the State Drama Festival in your diary- the 26

th and 27

th of October. Held at the Seymour Centre

tickets normally go on sale in August. The State Drama Festival features all 8 ensembles and it also includes the best pieces from schools across the state. We congratulate our students who made the NSW Public Schools Drama Ensemble program and we look forward to seeing their performances later in the year.

This year Year 6 student Ella Sergeant from Birchgrove PS made it into this elite program.

We came, we saw, we rocked! A big shout-out to those students (and their parents/carers) who donated a lazy, peaceful Sunday to the grand cause of making our first Music Jam Club such a blast. High fives all round, but especially to Mr Cormack for lifting our already-epic version of Yellow Submarine into the rock and roll of fame with his scorching recorder solo, and to Principal Gray for green-lighting the concept and the use of the hall. Spread the word to your muso friends, BPS rockers, and keep your eyes on the Buzz for details of the next one!

Term 1 Week 10 28th March 2017 November 2016

P&C Dear BPS Community, Spending by the P&C at Last Month’s Meeting The P&C has committed funds to resource BPS classrooms and the School Hall:

- $12,647 New Laptops - $1K New Speakers

We are continually evaluating all that is needed around the school to benefit the children’s education and school experience. Further items will be reviewed at each meeting, upon the receipt of sufficient funds. 2017 Fete Coordinator – Ms Jennifer Peters (Fete Date: Saturday 13 May 10-4pm) Thank you to Jennifer Peters (P&C Fundraising Coordinator and Year 3 Mother) for Volunteering to be the BPS Fete Coordinator for 2017. Jen needs all our support and really appreciates those that have kindly offered to help out already. Could you please allow yourself a little time, either prior to the fete or on the day to help out. Help that’s required is diverse - from planning and preparation beforehand, to setting up stalls, manning stalls and packing down stalls. It is the one day, when most BPS parents are needed on a single day. Please offer support where you can to your class parents. Thank you, to all those who have already started their fete preparations. The fete is our major fundraising event of the year. It is our main opportunity to fundraise outside of the school and the Fete team are always looking at new ways to encourage the wider local community to visit the fete. Lock Saturday 13 May to invite along your family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues etc. Last year we raised $33,000 after expenses, it would be awesome to match or improve on $33,000 this year. REMINDER: 2017 P&C Levies are due by the 31 March Again, thank you to those parents, who have already made their voluntary contribution. The levies are our second biggest revenue earner for the P&C. The levy helps plug the gaps in much needed learning resources for our children. We currently have a list of more resources that we wish to add to the classrooms, but are awaiting further funds. Payment by every family would result in $30,000 additional resources that could be purchased for the school. This ANNUAL FEES are the following:

- $130 for 1 child - $230 for 2 children - $310 for 3 children and $80 for each extra child thereafter - $65 per preschool child

The P&C levies are due by 31 March 2017. While we will accept payment after this date, ultimately prompt payment helps us significantly fund priority items early in the year. We politely request payment by the 31 March. Payment can be made the following ways:

1. Cash or Cheque – please place payment in in a sealed envelope in the black box at the school office.

2. Direct Debit Details (Please include family name in reference section) Bank: CBA

Account name: Birchgrove P&C Account number: 00900746 BSB: 062 110 If required, further details re P&C levies can be found on the green form outside the school office. This same green form was also send home in the children school bags. Finally, if you have any queries relative to the P&C, please send them through the school website (www.birchgrove-p.schools.nsw.edu.au) via the P&C page or attend our monthly meeting.
