It is with pleasure that I present to our members my second report as President of Tennis NSW. I have been very excited to lead the current Board, which has a solid core of tennis knowledge and a wide range of business backgrounds.

In 2011-12, there has been a focus on our obligations at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre (SOPTC). Throughout the year the Board has been attempting to have certain lease conditions amended to ease this significant cost to the sport. This process will draw to a conclusion in the new financial year.

Whilst every Director has made a wonderful contribution to our governance, I wish to single out the work of Des Nicholl AM.

Des is a life member of Tennis NSW and Tennis Australia. He has served on the Board of Tennis NSW for more than forty years, first as an elected Director, then as Treasurer and finally as an Appointed Director. In June, Des informed the Board that his current term as Director would be his last. I want to thank Des for his dedicated service as well as the financial wisdom he brought to the board.

The 2011-12 year has seen an ever engaging presence with our members by our Community Tennis Officers (CTO’s). They continually communicate with clubs, associations and court operators. The promotion of programs throughout NSW has seen MLC Tennis Hot Shots now delivered by 204 venues across NSW. Cardio Tennis attracted 77 coach deliverers since the launch of the program.

Our Places to Play Team continued their great work around business development and infrastructure improvement. Priority projects have emerged inBlacktown, Penrith, Tweed, Grafton and the Central Coast. I want to recognise General Manager-Tennis Development, Jackson Hills, for his leadership and energy he brings to his dedicated team.

Thank you to General Manager-Corporate Services, Helen Hu, and her team for their “behind-the-scenes” efforts supporting all business units and the Board.

Thank you to General Manager-Commercial Tennis, Mark Wilton and his team for continually growing the programs and focus of SOPTC.

I also want to acknowledge Chief Executive, Glenn Tasker. During the 2011-12 year, the Board reviewed the Chief Executive’s performance and as a result we offered Glenn a new three year contract, which he accepted. Glenn has put together a team, which is stable, dedicated and working hard for our members.

The Tennis NSW Premier League continued its success in 2011-12. The two arms of the competition, Sydney Badge Tennis and Country Pennant, produced impressive teams for the City-Country final. The final was held during the 2012 Apia International Sydney and congratulations to the City side that narrowly defeated Country in a great battle.

The 2012 Apia International Sydney was a fantastic event, which had much of its gloss dimmed by the men’s final wash-out. This was a disappointing end to what was a marvellous week of tennis. Tennis NSW was fortunate enough to host many of the Presidents and Secretaries of Members from around the state. Congratulations to Tournament Director Craig Watson and his staff for producing a wonderful event.

Once again I want to recognise Tennis Australia’s contribution to our efforts. Through significant cash grants and the provision of in-kind resources, Tennis Australia is the major contributor to our community tennis program. Tennis NSW has forged strong links with the Tennis Australia board and I would like to acknowledge President Steve Healy. His support for Member Associations is well known and much appreciated.

Finally I want to recognise the tireless and often thankless work of those volunteers, whose efforts keep tennis active in their local area.

Without this unpaid workforce tennis would not have the local presence it has. Time volunteered is a gift, it is one which we cannot quantify. Without it, our Members would be the poorer.

Harry Beck

In 2011-12, Tennis NSW spent in excess of $500,000 in maintaining SOPTC and making capital improvements. During this period, the Board has engaged the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) in order to vary our lease. SOPA is our landlord and has agreed to some lease variations to assist our financial position. These negotiations are on-going.

The past year has seen an increase in functions at SOPTC. Centre staff have worked with our caterers, GEMA, to increase the use of the function rooms. Tennis NSW is grateful to Matthew and Paul Valenti and their staff for their continued support.

I would like to acknowledge Alan Marsh (CEO) and Nick Hubble (Business Manager) of SOPA for their support. In the 2011-12 year, SOPA has provided extra resources to Tennis NSW to upgrade important tournament infrastructure. A Development Plan for the Centre was completed in the current year and will provide valuable information regarding population and trends around Sydney Olympic Park.

The 2012 Apia International Sydney was again one of the success stories of the Australian summer. Tournament Director, Craig Watson, and his small team delivered a world class event. Tennis NSW staff members were involved in the tournament and with a group ofwonderful volunteers helped deliver a memorable tournament.

The 2011-12 year has been one in which Tennis NSW strengthened its relationship with Tennis Australia. Thank you to CEO Steve Wood for and his staff for their support, resources and encouragement. Tennis NSW acknowledges President Steve Healy and his Board on a very successful year.

As I often say “to have a strong sport we must have strong members”. Tennis NSW aims to be recognised as the number one sport and leisure activity in NSW by 2016. To achieve it, our sport needs to be united and focused. The challenges are many but the rewards are even greater.

Just as the community struggles against the influences of the harsh economic climate, tennis also struggles against the same influences. With families reining in spending and governments ignoring the plight of tennis clubs across the country, our sport continues to exist and flourish because of the dedication of hard working volunteers and coaches.

As Chief Executive, I am privileged to work with a very dedicated Board of Directors. Throughout 2011-12, the Board has worked very hard to provide leadership and President Harry Beck has been tireless in his efforts to lift the profile of tennis in NSW.

During the year, the Directors reviewed and reworked the company’s strategic plan. The plan now reflects the main issues facing tennis and it aligns perfectly with the Tennis Australia plan T4M.

Tennis NSW main engagement with our Members is through our network of Community Tennis Officers (CTO’s). General Manager-Tennis Development, Jackson Hills, has put together a wonderful team of hard working professionals.

The Corporate Services Unit, led by General Manager, Helen Hu, continues to provide wonderful financial and human resource support to all staff members. General Manager-Commercial Tennis, Mark Wilton, has again shown his entrepreneurial skills in managing SOPTC. The centre’s programs continue to thrive and grow throughout the years from his great leadership.

Again our marketing team of one, Briony Craber has done a wonderful job supporting all our business units. Her work in multi-media has allowed sound and frequent communication to the Members. She has also provided me with great support in servicing our sponsors.

Thank you also to our former receptionist, Maria Rovella and our current receptionist, Daniela Scivetti for helping with monthly board papers and arranging meeting rooms for me.

Glenn Tasker

The past 12 months have been an important step toward our 2016 goal of having four million Australians playing our great sport. This step has been one taken in unison between a group of people that have delivered every facet of tennis to the community. That group has prominently featured Tennis NSW, the regions within the state including clubs, centres, associations, coaches and schools.

Together, more than ever before, we are all working together to improve the game.. Central to that combined effort across the nation has been the evolution of two programs which are key to participation growth, MLC Tennis Hot Shots and Cardio Tennis.

More than a quarter of a million children enjoyed MLC Tennis Hot Shots last financial year and we are aiming to grow that substantially in the next 12 months. Similarly Cardio Tennis seems to have tapped into the tennis-fitness sector and it has gained some strong momentum since it was launched earlier this year.

Underpinning this growth is a significant and ongoing investment in facilities. This investment in Places to Play has been building for several years and has enabled the establishment or refurbishment of more than 1200 courts in what has been the biggest injection of funds into tennis facilities in the history of the sport.

Further to Tennis Australia’s planning and commitment to providing better facilities is the announcement that the Federal Government will contribute almost $5 Million to the Tweed Shire Council for the proposed $42 Million Arkinstall Park Project. The initial stages of the redevelopment include a tennis and netball centre capable of hosting major events.

Coupled with the Wollongong Tennis Centre’s opening of permanent MLC Tennis Hot Shots courts, the vision and recent progress of NSW facility development is exciting for tennis.

One of the great moments of the last year that impacted us all, was Sam Stosur’s incredible victory in the 2011 US Open. Sam’s story is a wonderful lesson in overcoming the adversity of illness and her success is a testimony to the rewards of hard work, great talent and a wonderful attitude.

Sam wasn’t the only highlight, a crop of talented juniors showed some great promise with the Junior Girls Ashleigh Barty, Belinda Woolcock and Brooke Rischbieth taking out the Junior Fed Cup final in October, while Nick Kyrgios and Andrew Harris won back to back junior Grand Slam doubles titles at Wimbledon and Roland Garros this year.

There have been numerous off court successes as well as staff in Tennis Australia and the Member Associations continue to explore ways to ensure all points of engagement with our sport are first class and encourage greater interaction between tennis and communities.

One of the ways we continue to do this is through the provision of great events at community, capital city and national level.

History has shown us that these events inspire people to play which in turn inspires people to at-tend great events and so the upward spiral continues. The Apia International Sydney, with more than 100 years of tradition, is a fine example of that.

Finally, to the NSW tennis family, thank you the part you have played in growing the sport. I am very proud to work alongside such a committed and focused group of people, and I look forward with great confidence to embarking upon the next chapter of our country’s tennis story.

Steve Wood

Our Tennis Development Department has achieved a great deal in the last 12 months. The role of Tennis Development is to work with member clubs, associations, coaches and court operators to deliver the sport of tennis successfully and sustainably across all communities in NSW.

Staffing UpdateOur staffing structure remained very stable during the period with a few notable additions. Matt Starr and Nicole Bouffler were promoted to Community Tennis Manager and Tournaments and Competi-tions Manager respectively during the year.

It was an important move to integrate the Membership business unit, led by Melissa Achten into the Tennis Development Department this year also. We welcomed Simone Bateman to this team during the period as well. Membership is an important part of organised tennis and has suffered significant decline at the state and local level over the years. Our membership reform program will be an important step forward to modernising the sport.

Our Tennis Management Group oversees all of the major areas of Tennis Development in NSW and has worked tirelessly during the period to continue to accelerate our work in all important strategy areas.

A memorandum of understanding was also developed between Tennis Seniors Australia, Tennis Seniors NSW and Tennis NSW to pilot a pay for play model in NSW which resulted in the elimination of the NSW seniors state registration fee for this year. The pilot program is still on-going until the end of 2012 with a full review to take place later in the year.

Pilot eventsNew strategies have also been implemented for additional promotional and marketing of senior’s tournaments and events that have being battling with a declining entries over the years. Particular focus has been applied to the Southern Districts, Port Macquarie, Nepean and Raymond Terrace seniors’ events.

ResultsCongratulations to our NSW players whorepresented Australia on the international stage at the Seniors World Team Championships in San Diego in March 2012

• Brenda Foster, Leanne Swaysland, Suzy Ellis, Sara Goddard, Matt Olsen, Greg Westwood, Manuel Radic, Wayne Pascoe and Gary Thoroughgood. The Austria Cup for Men over 55 was won by Australia for the eighth time in a row which is quite a feat!

• The Evans brothers (Michael and Greg) took out the 35 Men’s Doubles as well as getting to the Semi-Finals in their respective age groups in Singles. Leanne Sways-land from Taren Point combined with her partner from the ACT to win the Women’s 50+ doubles over compatriot Brenda Foster from Wagga Wagga.

CommunicationTennis Seniors NSW has continued to communicate successfully with its membership through its quar-terly Vetscore newsletter developed by devoted Secretary, Robyn Castle and the Tennis Seniors website.

CalendarThe Tennis Seniors tournament calendar boasted an impressive 35 events in 2012. The Committee andPresident, Mick Bruton would like to thank all members for their continued support.

Page 7: Tennis NSW Annual Report 2011-2012

The Tennis Country Management Committee advanced a number of programs and events during the year as well as championing some key issues effecting country clubs, associations and officials.

The NSW Country Closed Championships were held in Newcastle for the second year running. Entries increased dramatically on the previous year. Thanks to EllenGordon and Andrew Mitton for delivering this event along with a number of other county delegates, officials and volunteers, Tennis NSW staff, as well as local hosts Newcastle District Tennis Association and Topspin Tennis.

Country StarzThe Country Starz program continues to go from strength of strength. Country Delegate, Chris Maddocks assumed the role of program manager and has worked hard to streamline the administration process in conjunction with Tennis NSW.

A new logo was developed this year, as well as revised player agreement and a new uniform. Trudy Musgrave was appointed head coach of the program during the period.

The Tennis Sydney Management Committee have advanced a number of key projects during the year. The Sydney Badge Tennis Competition has grown in 2011-12. The spring competition in particular has increased entries 25%.

Medibank Junior Development SeriesTennis Sydney oversaw the Metropolitan MJDS series which was organised by Tennis NSW and conducted by associations, clubs and centres. The series has grown in total number of events from four in 2011 to eight events plus a Champion of Champions in 2012. Entries have also increased on average by between 25% and 100% in all age groups.

Sydney ChampionshipsAn advisory group oversaw aspects of the tournament, which was organised and operated by Tennis NSW at SOPTC. The event recorded 146 open entries and 312 juniors. A number of additional activities were also held during the week, including a warm-up event for juniors, a forum on US College Tennis and promotions sponsor Nature’s Way.

CommunicationA new radio program Talking Tennis was also introduced during the year. Talking Tennis airs on Saturday mornings at 10.15am on community radio station 2NBC (90.1FM). Committee Chair and Secretary of the CBTA, Paul Burgess is the host of the program. A further thanks goes to Committee member, Tom McCarthy and Tennis NSW Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Briony Craber for delivering the program each week.

The Membership team has continued to work closely with our members to help register their players as well as protecting them through the Court Liability Insurance Scheme and the Personal Sports Injury Insurance for registered players.

Tennis NSW recognises the burden that tennis clubs and facility operators carry by managing public assets and the risks associated. Insurance is one of the most important considerations for any sport and recreation facility. It was pleasing to see more clubs take up our leading insurance program this year at a very competitive price.

Player RegistrationIn 2011-12, player registration declined by a further 4.5%. A number of factors continue to influence this decline. These include the current model aimed at competition and tournament players, which is not providing the right incentives for clubs and private operators to register more of their casual players.

There is further concern that some members collect the player registration fee and do not pass it on to Tennis NSW. This dangerous practice not only puts the club committee at risk, it also leaves the individual uninsured. As such, the Board and management has taken action during the period commissioning a full review into membership which has resulted in a number of proposed reforms to the membership model for 2013-14.

My TennisMy Tennis continues to develop to further meet the needs of members utilising the system. To date 213 clubs are using My Tennis to handle player registration. As the system develops in the next 12 months we are expecting this number will increase.

In 2011-12, 380 clubs also took advantage of the Umbrella Insurance Scheme which covered 431 facilities. This initiative has provided excellent value for the members participating in the scheme.

Tennis NSW remains committed to increasing the number of registered players but this will rely heavily on participation providers to embrace change. Over the past 12 months Tennis NSW has put a lot of work into the development of a new membership model which will give clubs the opportunity to have more control over how they structure their membership at the local level.

Overall this change will give clubs more freedom by removing the player based fee to Tennis NSW and replacing it with a court based fee. Furthermore, over the last four months Tennis NSW has hosted 46 consultation sessions with clubs to give them the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed model. 158 clubs took part in these sessions and their feedback has resulted in some changes to the proposed model which we aim to implement in the 2013-2014 membership year.

Player Registration Comparison Region 2010-2011 2011-2012 Direct 2,876 3,091 Central West 3,462 3,666 Metro Sydney 16,034 15,057 North East 5,667 5,448 North West 1,975 1,786 Northumberland 4,017 3,553 South East 5,982 5,363 South West 3,532 3,441 Total 43,545 41,405

Our appreciation goes to our Membership team of Melissa Achten and Simone Bateman. Simone joined us during the period and the two are the backbone of this important area of our business. Their efforts in getting clubs the required information and support of My Tennis allows clubs data to be processed and players to be issued with their My Tennis ID in a timely manner.

The fees generated through Membership and Player Registration enables Tennis NSW to implement the myriad of programs and services available to assist member clubs, associations and court operators develop their business and provider relevant and compelling participation offerings to the broader tennis community.

Page 9: Tennis NSW Annual Report 2011-2012

Community Tennis continues to be one most critical business areas and support mechanisms for our members in NSW. Community Tennis Manager, Matt Starr leads our growing team of Community Tennis Officer’s (CTOs) in NSW.

MLC Tennis Hot ShotsMLC Tennis Hot Shots continues to be a main focus for the Community Tennis team. The number of deliverers grew from 123 to 203, delivered in over 500 venues across NSW. Over 11, 800 kids were registered through the MLC Tennis Hot Shots club program, twice as many as the previous year. Over 37, 000 kids were exposed to MLC Tennis Hot Shots through coaching programs delivered in schools and the Active After School Communities (AASC) program.

Cardio Tennis Cardio Tennis was launched into the tennis community late 2011 and hit the ground running. The program was officially launched in Sydney at First Fleet Park, Circular Quay. Guests included twontime OlympicSwimmer Elka Whalan, Women’s Health magazine editor Felicity Harley, contestants from the Biggest Loser, as well as Cardio Tennis Coaches and participants.

In its first year, 77 Tennis Australia qualified coaches from NSW signed up to the deliver the program to hundreds of participants within local tennis centres, clubs and associations.

Disability and Diversity ProgrammingA standout for the year was when Kelly Wren was awarded the Most Outstanding Athlete with a Disability at the Newcombe Medal in December 2011. Kelly also went on to win the women’s singles and doubles titles at the NSW ID Tennis Championships.

NSW athletes Ben Weekes, Adam Kellerman and Keegan Oh-Chee performed well at the Wheelchair BNP Paribas World Team Cup in South Korea in May 2012. They all train weekly at SOPTCwith the support of National Academy Sydney Coach, Craig Purcell.

Indigenous Tennis This year we saw the introduction of the new Earn, Learn, Legend program which has been developed in conjunction with Tennis Australia and the Evonne Goolagong Foundation. This initiative aims to encour-age and support young Indigenous Australians in their education and sporting endeavours.

The program was held at Redfern, Grafton and Grif-fith and saw over 500 Indigenous kids participate in tennis – a number of these picking up a racquet for the very first time.

NSW Department of Education (DET) partnershipTennis NSW continued its support of the NSW DET Premier’s Sporting Challenge and Sports Leadership Program. We were able to deliver a tennis experience to over 1,800 children and 100 primary and secondary schools over the past 12 months. In November 2011, 800 high school students participated in a trial which provided the framework for a new sport accreditation program.

Major Events and PromotionsThe Apia International Sydney provided the perfect plat-form to showcase tennis in NSW. Throughout the week our CTOs ran a number of Hot Shots and Cardio Tennis demonstrations, as well as interacting with the many fans through the Get into Tennis booth, Interative Zone and Kids Day.

In the lead up to the tournament, 100 lucky MLC Tennis Hot Shots children were rewarded with the opportunity to take part in a Kids Clinic led by ambassador, Lleyton Hewitt and Peter Luczak. The team supported theLleyton Hewitt Charity Day, where celebrities and current tennis stars mixed with kids and adults on the purpose built MLC Tennis Hot Shots courts at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

The Australian Open trophies set off of on a tour of all capital cities and regional areas during the year. Finally, Royal Sydney Golf Club played host to the Davis Cup tie between Australia and Switzerland. Our CTO’s enhanced the event with Hot Shots demonstrations before the start of play, as well as an Interactive Zone where adults and children could try their hand at tennis.

The Places to Play (P2P) team have continued to work with clubs and Local Government over the last 12 months in an effort to create more inviting and quality places to play tennis. The team consisting of Facility Development Manager, Brett Andrews and Business Development Manager, Andy Schymitzek have focused on building relationships, developing resources and taken a hands-on approach to infrastructure development projects.

Planning and Club DevelopmentIn the last 12 months, 44 clubs participated in the National Club Health Check Benchmarking Survey, a record number for NSW. These clubs received data that will help them assess their performance against key indicators. They will be able to undertake the survey again next financial year to see if they have improved in selected areas of club operations.

In addition a further 12 clubs undertook an Operational Analysis. The Operational Analysis was a tool developed this year by the Tennis NSW P2P team which takes an even deeper look into a club’s operations. Clubs are provided with a report which outlines their strengths and weaknesses and provides some recommendations to be considered in their future strategic business planning.

Government RelationsTennis NSW maintained a strong relationship with the NSW Government during the period and will continue to try and leverage that relationship for better outcomes in the future in particular for leasing and funding matters as they relate to member facilities and courts.

Local Government continues to be a focal point for the P2P team as the key land holders of tennis facilities. P2P staff communicated with over 35 Local Government Authorities in the last 12 months and was able to present to several more at various forums and conferences during the year including the following:

• National Parks and Leisure Australia Conference • Tennis Owners and Operators Forum • Parks and Leisure Australia Conference

Infrastructure The declining state of facilities in NSW continues to be a major issue for tennis. Tennis NSW offers tools and resources to help Clubs and Local Government better plan for their future infrastructure needs. We encourage all Clubs to work with the Councils to develop long term plans for the upgrade and replacement of assets to ensure inviting facilities that encourage participation.

There were some exciting projects launched during the year with the announcement of a Regional Tennis venue for the Tweed in the state’s north being a massive boost for tennis in that region. There has also been significant progress in the development of a Regional Centre for Blacktown and some of our other major centres includ-ing Gosford and Wagga which are also hoping to under-take major projects.

MLC Tennis Hot Shots CourtsThe most exciting project this year however was the creation of eight permanent MLC Tennis Hot Shots courts at the City of Wollongong Tennis Club. These courts are the first of their kind in Australia and add to the 5,000 similar sized courts built or line marked throughout the world.

The courts were converted from two existing, underutilised hard-courts and will offer a new and diverse range of uses for children starting out in tennis as well as adult groups and disability groups who find it difficult participate on a full size court. In the short time since the courts were constructed Tennis NSW has already received numerous inquiries from Councils and Clubs who are considering the conversion or new build of permanent MLC Hot Shot courts.

10

This year was a busy and exciting year for the tournaments and competitions department, led by Nicole Bouffler and supported by Susan Harris. More than 400 sanctioned events were held across NSW. Throughout the year the tournaments team had a shift in focus, transitioning to a service based department, working primarily with clubs and volunteers to assist in the delivery of their events.

The start of 2012 marked a significant change in the Australian Rankings Tournament landscape with the introduction of new main draw and qualifying draw formats. The draw separation aims to increase the match quality for all partici-pants. The tournaments and rankings website, tournaments.tennis.com.au, has continued to grow with online entry now mandatory for all Australian Ranking events.

Medibank Junior Development SeriesThe Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS) has provided a great introduction to tournament play across NSW. The Country regions have continued to conduct great events, while 2012 has seen the series expanded in the Metropolitan area.

The City pathway consisted of the best players from Sydney Badge Tennis and NSW Hardcourt Inter-district Competitions. Regional playoffs events were conducted in Nowra, Wagga, Bathurst, Newcastle, and Sawtell as part of the Country Pennant. The top two men and women from each playoff then proceeded through to Inter-regional playoffs which were held in Bowral and Forster. The top two players from each playoff formed the Country representative side.

Sydney Badge TennisThe 2012 Sydney Badge Tennis competitions have grown considerably during the year. The Autumn competition grew by 5% and Spring entry numbers were up a further 23%.

Special mention must go to the Hills District Men’s Premier League team which consisted of the entire Smith family from Castle Hill who won the top grade of the Autumn competition. The Sydney Badge administrators, Cliff Sproule and Barb Myers have done a fantastic job ensuring the competitions run smoothly and their time, effort and dedication is appreciated.

This year has been successful for tennis officiating in NSW with more people becoming officials across the state. Officials from NSW achieved many of their goals both here and abroad.

Grand Slam AppointmentsThis year NSW was represented at all Grand Slam events. At the Australian Open, Tennis Officials Australia – NSW life member Wayne McKewen was the Tournament Referee for the 7th time and was also an ITF Grand Slam Supervisor at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and U.S Open.

Donna Kelso, another life member, was an ITF Grand Slam Supervisor at all four Grand Slams. Pam Whytcross was once again the referee for the APIA International Sydney and was also a Grand Slam Supervisor. At the Australian Open, NSW had 42 members officiate at the tournament. Six members also officiated at the French Open.

Davis Cup SydneyIn September 2011, twelve NSW officials were appointed to the Davis Cup World Group Playoff between Australia and Switzerland. The eleven Line Umpires and the Chief of Officials, Glenn Toland did an exceptional job. Glenn should be congratulated on his efforts to secure officials for the historical fourth day in such a short space of time.

International AccreditationThis year, Sydneysider Abhaya Parthy, was awarded an ITF Silver Badge Referee accreditation – which is in addition to his ITF Bronze Badge Chair Umpire accreditation.

Education CoursesA number of Officiating courses were held in Sydney and in regional NSW, Court Supervisor courses were held in Sydney, Ballina, Grafton and Coffs Harbour. A total of 71 people participated with a number of them officiating in a range of tournaments.

In February 2011, six NSW officials – Ben Carter, Juan Dehollain, Andrew Dewar, Pat Nugent, Hannah Ng andNicholas Yip, attended the Level A Chair Umpire’s School.

The course was facilitated by Abhaya Parthy. These officials are now officiating at Tennis Australia’s Pro Tour Circuit. In March three NSW officials - Annette Harris, Rick Lavers and Ellen Gordon attended the Level A Referee’s School in Sydney. The course was facilitated by NSW referee Mr Scott Ray.

This year we ran three Level D Line Umpires courses and for the first time a course was held in Bathurst. The two Sydney courses had 31 participants attend with 28 participants becoming accredited and now officiating. The Bathurst course was attended by 8 participants with all participants becoming accredited.

I would like to thank Margaret Sheean and Nicole Howson for their hard work and dedication in delivering the courses.

Tournament ServicingThis year, Tennis NSW, Tennis Officials Australia – NSW and Tennis Australia formed a new committee to oversee tournament servicing and the development of tennis officials. The Selection and Development Committee meets once a quarter to discuss official’s selections and to create developmental opportunities for officials.

Tribunal/Code of BehaviourThis year Tennis NSW Tribunal Panel worked tire-lessly in their efforts to resolve serious misconduct of players at tournaments. A number of Tennis NSW players have breached Tennis Australia’s Code of Behaviour. Breaches have been for withdrawing late from a tournament or racquet and ball abuse. Players are reminded that all breaches are taken seriously and players will be penalised.

Tennis Officials Australia – NSW DivisionThis year Tennis Officials Australia – NSW led by their president Glenn Toland have been instrumental with their support, expertise and advice during the year. All members of the Executive are volunteers and their dedication to officiating is proven by the amount of work they put in. I would like to thank Glenn and his Board of Management for their countless hours to tennis officiating in New South Wales.

Sandon is currently working with David Kohan, Nicholas Horton, Jeremy Bourgeois, Jordan Thompson and other local juniors to assist them in finding colleges for 2013.

ResultsAsia Pacific Tennis Institute athlete Simon Ede has been abroad for the past 3 months and has achieved one of his goals, to be ranked inside the ATP 1000. At the beginning of his tour Simon was ranked ATP 1943, after playing 14 Pro Circuit events and reaching a career best Semi Final in Izmir Turkey and a Quarter Final also in Turkey, he now holds a career high ranking of ATP 904. It proves that hard work and dedication pays off.

The current juniors rankings are constantly improving which is a result of each and every athlete understand-ing their commitment to the sport and to their training. The youngest athlete in the Asia Pacific Tennis Institute, William Hatzis, 9 years old, is currently leading the NSW State Series. Our young girls are winning local AR Tournaments on a regular basis and are performing well on a state and national level.

Tennis Australia National Academy SydneySeveral major changes within the National Academy have resulted in a focused, personalised approach with a smaller number of athletes with an overall increase in on court training, strength and conditioning.

National Academy Sydney Annual Stakeholders MeetingThere were a number of guest speakers at our meeting in February. These included Scott Draper, Wally Masur and Nicole Pratt. It was presented to our athletes, parents and stakeholders and it highlighted our new direction and structure for the coming years.

The Coach and Talent Development team’s objective is to recruit coaches and develop their ability to drive participation and performance. This was no exception in 2011-12 with a number of new initatives to increase education and skills to our coaches.

Project TalentProject Talent is improving the quality and quantity of athletes under the age of 12 through a network of Talent Development Coaches, a weekly Super 10s team-based competition and Talent Development Camps.

Tennis Australia, with the assistance of Tennis NSW, organised seven 12-under Talent Development Camps. Over 150 places were available for under-12 talented players to take part in the camps. Training included offence and defence, serve and return of serve, movement, adjusting to different surfaces and intensity themes.

The camps included parent presentations with guest speakers like Wally Masur, Nicole Arendt, Gerard Faure-Brac, Sport and Performance psychologist and David Briggs, tennis movement specialist. Presentations included parents role in tennis, training loads for the player, competition pathways, how to handle stress and movement on different surfaces.

As part of Project Talent, Tennis Australia has recognised 30 excellent, passionate Talent Development Coaches who specialise in the development of under12 year olds in NSW. These coaches are a vital element in the athlete development pathway. Some of the benefits of becom-ing a Talent Development Coach include national travel grants to 12 and 14/u Nationals, financial rewards for athlete’s performances, subsidised annual workshop and Australian Grand Slam Coaching conference.

Coach Education As in previous years Tennis Australia in conjunction with Tennis NSW continues to deliver coaching courses and qualifications. This year two Junior Development courses and one Club Professional were completed in the early part of the financial year.

Tennis Australia has partnered with a registered training organisation (RTO), Smart Connection Company, to allow coaches to receive nationally recognised qualifications (in the Vocational Education and Training sector). This will enable eligible coaches to access Federal and/or State subsidies for training.

It is a significant step forward in further profes-sionalising the industry and raising the standard of coaching. The first intake of 24 coaches into the dual branded Junior Development/Cert III in Sport Coaching (SIS30710) qualification occurred in June.

There has been large growth in the base of the coaching pathway via the Intro to MLC Tennis Hot Shots coaching course and the Community coaching course. In NSW, fifteen Intro to Hot Shot courses (over 200 participants including doing courses in schools) and four Community coaching courses (total participants 38) were conducted.

Professional DevelopmentIn addition to the two face to face workshops, the Bounce online learning platform continues to provide greater professional development opportunities. The program links the athlete development matrix, video content, discussion forums and PD workshops online.

Coach Membership In 2011-12 there were 987 coaches in NSW registered as part of the Tennis Australia Coach Membership program. In November 2011, the Bounce online learning platform became an additional benefit to all qualified coaches. This platform allowed coaches to further their education and access world class content at home.

The Marketing and Communications department again provided all business units, members, sponsors and Tennis Australia invaluable support throughout the year. New initiatives and marketing collateral enabled Tennis NSW to further engage and communicate to all stakeholders.

CommunicationNew communication channels was a focus of the department in the 2011-12 year. With the help of Tennis Australia’s, Horizon Funding program, the department invested in a video camera. As trends change in the ways in which our audience asborbs messages, Tennis NSW must also change in the way we communicate these messages.

Highlights packages were created for the President’s Reserve at the Apia International Sydney and Membership Reform. These videos represent to our members the scope of support we provide as a business.

The Tennis NSW board provided financial support to Tennis Sydney for their community radio program, Talking Tennis. Hosted by Tennis Sydney member, Paul Burgess, the program allows us to highlight the many local and national good news stories within the tennis community.

There have been a number of guests on the program including; Ken Rosewall, Margaret Court, Bob Giltinan, Craig Watson as well as Tennis Australia and Tennis NSW staff. Thank you to all of our guests for supporting Talking Tennis and to Paul Burgess who has been extremely enthusiastic in working with the department.

Social media has been a hot issue within the communications field in recent years. At the end of 2011, Tennis NSW created a Facebook page for the NSW tennis community. The page was officially launched at the Apia International Sydney with a promotion around a creative photo competition. First prize was an Australian Open package. Congratulations to Trent Campbell who was a worthy winner.

The department, along with Human Resources and Community Tennis created our social media policy to protect our members within this new communication space.

EventsThis year there was an increase in the number of events and promotions that the department supported. The Australian Open Trophy Tour rolled into NSW in November allowed our members to get up close and personal with both the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Trophy and the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup. City Community Tennis was announced the winner of our Metropolitan Sydney club competition and hosted the trophies alongside Ken Rosewall, David Hall and Graeme Annesley MP.

The Apia International Sydney and Davis Cup World Group Play-Off Tie again allowed the department to support Tennis Australia’s efforts. Other promotions also included the Nickelodeon MLC Tennis Hot Shots TVC, Saturday Disney ball kids story, Cardio Tennis Launch at Circular Quay, GIO Sydney International WheelchairTennis at Top Ryde Shopping Centre and the 10th Annual Australian Tennis Museum Luncheon.

SponsorsWe welcomed new sponsor, Nature’s Way into the Tennis NSW family this year. With a tennis playing son in his family, Toby Browne and his team have done a remarkable job in the first year of their sponsorship to engage with our members.

The 2012 Nature’s Way Pro Tour was an example of this sucess with up and coming Australian tennis star, Ashleigh Barty taking home the title. This leveraged their sponsorship with a number of articles published highlighting her win.

Thank you to Lesuirelink, supplier of HEAD products, which again did a great job in providing our members discounted tennis balls for our sanctioned tournaments and Court Craft who continue to support Tennis Australia’s preferred court surface vision.

With the constant growth in the Tennis NSW team, the pivotal area of Human Resources continues to flourish. Like the previous year, the Human Resources area has been driven by the shared vision of making Tennis the number one sport and leisure activity in New South Wales.

SystemsThe Human Resource Information System (HRIS) has proven to be a success, with all components beingutilised in the past year.

The recruitment system Big Red Sky has continued to assist with the efficient recruitment of staff over the past year. Use of Big Red Sky to further screen applicants has been put in use for the recruitment of positions in the Tennis Development and Corporate Servicesdepartments. This system has proven to be a success with assisting in finding the best candidates for all positions.

The Performance Development Review (PDR) was carried out for the second year via the employee services portal system ConnX. The further use of this system has meant that the Tennis NSW three month probation review has now also been set up via ConnX. This will add to the centralisation of all information for staff and managers.

Remuneration frameworkFollowing on from the Mercer remuneration framework adopted by Tennis Australia, Tennis NSW is now in its first stage of completing this remuneration review. This review process will provide a clear link between performance and reward, and will form a remuneration structure that is true to each role.

Staff SocialsWith the launch of the Cardio Tennis program, Tennis NSW thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for staff to participate in the program. Staff are equiped with a heart rate monitor and are given the opportunity to attend one cardio session a week. This has proven to be a great success among staff, not only from a fitness perspective but also from a team building perspective.

Recognition of serviceTennis NSW continues to reward and recognise staff for their continuous service to the organisation. Congratulations to Nicole Bouffler, Ken Wray and Helen Hu for accomplishing 5 years of service with the company.

Policies and training Following on from Tennis Australia, Tennis NSW launched a suit of policies around Equal Employment Opportunities, Harassment, Discrimination and Bullying. As part of the launch of these policies all staff were required to attend a facilitated training session based around these topics. This session was run by an external consultant who built on the understanding of what is classified as ‘acceptable workplace behaviours’.

Another important policy developed within the year was aimed to tackle the ever growing area of Social Media. The tennis NSW Social Media policy is aimed at making not only Tennis NSW staff but also affiliated clubs, coaches and players aware of the repercussions when social media is used in a negative way within the sport. Sessions outlining this policy were provided to all staff members, and the policy has been posted on the Tennis NSW website for all to access.

Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre is the home of Tennis in NSW and the Apia International Sydney.

Over the last 12 months the Tennis Centre has grown into an overall sporting precinct with many alternative sports and cultural groups utilising the centre for their activities. The centre has increased its ability to draw additional revenue from activities and program that aren’t tennis related.

We have hosted the following events:• 40cycleraces• 38Rotaryyouthdrivingassociationevents• 3Danceparties• Corporategames

Coaching activities and programsThe development programs had a great year with a record number of students participating on a weekly basis.

The centre coaches on average 600 students across all programs which include Phizz Kidz, Aussie Mozzie, Development programs, Squads, Adult groups, Cardio Tennis, Camps, competitions, schools, social activities and Asia Pacific Tennis Institute.

This financial year former Australian tennis player, Sandon Stolle joined our team. Sandon brings a wealth of experience from his time on the ATP tour and working for Tennis Australia. His connections with the American college system and tennis operators in Asia will enable the tennis centre and its programs to become truely international.

U.S College SeminarsIn November 2011, Peter MacDonald, head tennis coach of Gonzaga University, hosted a U.S College Seminar at SOPTC. Parents and athletes had the chance to learn more about the college pathway, which has become popular with Australian athletes in recent years.

In August 2012, Sydney tennis player, Hayden Smith, was accepted into Gonzaga University after participating in the November seminar. Sandon Stolle has now taken on this role and has presented to a number of schools and tennis centres about the U.S College pathway.

TournamentsOnce again the venue hosted a record number of events totalling 40 which included local and International tournaments. This year we managed the GIO Sydney International Wheelchair events that had over 120 par-ticipants from 10 nations. This was a great tournament for Wheelchair tennis players, with the Australian Open and Paralympics a major feature of their tournament calendar.

Unbeaten since 2003, world number 1, Esther Vergeer again proved her ranking by taking home the title. Vergeer went on to win the women’s singles title. at the 2012 London Paralympics Frenchman, Michael Jeremiasz took home the men’s singles title.

The Nature’s Way Woman’s Pro Tour event was one of the venue’s highlights with over 150 women competing over a 7 day period from 15 different nations. Up and coming Australian tennis player and 2011 Newcombe Junior Athlete of the Year, Ashleigh Barty took home the title. It was a great event for Barty, who jumped nearly 300 places up the WTA ladder from the win.

FinanceThe 2011-12 budget was considered as the most successful to date with an operating income of $1,555,872withacourtoccupancyrateof58%.The venue currently has 4 tenants that occupy office space which include, Special Olympics NSW, Court Craft, Optimum Performance and BPF Global Security.

It has been another busy year for the Australian Tennis Museum. The new exhibition, Apia International and Ken Rosewall Luncheon were once again highly successful.

2012 Exhibition: ‘The Hopman Era - Australia on the Rise’Names like Ken Rosewall, Margaret Court, Lew Hoad, Frank Sedgman, Jan Lehane and John Bromwich evoke memories of a Golden Age of tennis in Australia. What many people don’t know however is that all these players were either trained by Harry Hopman or man-aged by Nell Hopman.

The new exhibition from the Australian Tennis Museum let visitors experience the Golden Age of tennis while following the journeys of two of Australia’s most influential figures.

As Davis Cup Captain, Harry took Australia to 21 Chal-lenge Rounds, winning 16 of them - a record which is yet to be beaten. He strongly emphasised physical fitness and complete focus on the game in all the players he trained.

On the other hand, Nell is best known as an advocate for women’s tennis and is credited with obtaining enough funding to enter an Australian team in the first Federation Cup held in England in 1963. She also managed to bring the 3rd Federation Cup to Australia. These legendary figures took Australia to the top of world tennis with their brilliant but often controversial ideas.

Apia International SydneyThe Apia International Sydney week is always the busiest for the Australian Tennis Museum. This year was no exception with 3050 visitors entering the museum over the week. Kid’s Day was again the museum’s most popu-lar day with 956 visitors.

The museum saw an 18% increase in donations from last year with merchandise also selling well. We also received a very exciting donation from Sam Stosur, the dress she wore when she won the U.S Open title in 2011.

Museum ProjectsThis year one of the items in the museum’s collection was on National television. The Channel 7 program “The One” borrowed a dress worn by Evonne Goolagong Cawley and challenged their psychics to figure out the person who wore it and the sport they played. Psychic Debbie came remarkably close, identifying the person as someone of indigenous descent.

Most of the museum’s paper based records have now been put onto our computer database MOSAiC. This means it is now much easier to search the collections for specific items. The library space in the museum has been restructured so it can be utilised as a meeting space for Tennis NSW staff and external companies. The museum has also applied for the third stage of the Community Heritage Grants program which will provide funding for conservation of the museum’s prized clothing collection.

VolunteersVolunteers at the museum have been working solidly all year to improve our storage rooms and keep the collec-tion in fantastic condition. The museum’s core group of 5 volunteers have clocked up a very impressive 190 days at the museum.

Ken Rosewall Luncheon – 10th AnniversaryThe 10th Anniversary of the Ken Rosewall Luncheon was our most successful yet. Special Guest Margaret Court drew a crowd of 250 people, a record breaking effort. The museum raised over $5000 from ticket sales, raffle prizes and an auction item which has been essential in helping the museum conserve Australian tennis history.

Apia International Sydney 2012, one of the country’s premier international sporting events, was held from January 8 to 14. With the world’s best tennis players on show, excellent spectator and corporate facilities and a welcoming atmosphere, Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre was the place to be in January.

‘Sydney Ready? Play’, the Apia International Sydney produced another outstanding line up in 2012, led by grand slam champions Li Na and Juan Martin Del Potro and Australia’s number one player, Samantha Stosur.

Joining Li Na and Samantha Stosur in the women’s field were fellow top 10 players Caroline Wozniacki (No.1), Petra Kvitova (No. 2), Victoria Azarenka (No.3), Vera Zvonareva (No.7), Agnieszka Radwanska (No.8) and Marion Bartoli (No.9).

Apia International Sydney Ambassador Lleyton Hewitt,(No.18)JohnIsner,MedibankInternationalSydney 2011 Finalist Viktor Troicki, Richard Gasquet and Feliciano Lopez, headed up the men’s field. The Aussie wildcard ontingent included Matt Ebden and James Duckworth and rounding out the field was qualifier Jarrko Nieminen.

The event was attended by 89,924 people in 2012, compared to 83,507 in 2011. Whilst an increased marketing and advertising presence and greater emphasis on ticket promotions placed the event in a good position to meet attendance objectives, theunprecedented wash out of the Men’s Final had a significant impact on attendance.

The women’s final on Friday night drew an enthusiastic and vocal crowd. Azarenka led the charge taking the first set 6-2. Li Na, playing in her consecutive women’s final in Sydney, claimed the second set 6-1. Azarenka went on to take the third set 6-3 and win the final 6-2 1-6 6-3 in one hour and fifty six minutes making Sydney her ninth WTA crown.

For the second year in a row one of the Sydney finalists went on to win the Australian Open. In 2012 Azarenka claimed both the Sydney and Australian Open titles.

2009 finalist Jarkko Nieminen went one step further on Sunday afternoon at the Apia International Sydney by taking down Frenchman Julien Benneteau to win his second career title, 6-2 7-5. The Finn kept his 100 percent record over Frenchman Benneteau to become the first qualifier since Hyung-Taik Lee in 2003 to win the event.

The event welcomed Apia as the title sponsor for the next 3 years having elevated their involvement from the platinum level. Medibank ( title sponsors from 2005 to 2011) continued to showcase their involvement in the event as a platinum sponsor.

Apia, Medibank, South African Airways, Destination NSW and Sydney Olympic Park Authority were joined by a number of new sponsors this year, including Corona, Ricoh, Peak, Caltex , Agnew Wines and Eftpos. The Westin Sydney, Lexus, Usana, Schweppes, Seek and FedEx also continued their great long-term support of the event.

Sponsor activation and entertainment at the Apia International Sydney was a highlight in 2012 and feedback from customers and partners alike was extremely positive. In addition to the successful Daily Telegraph Live Site Concert Series, the activation sites for Apia, South African Airways, Corona, Caltex, Agnew Wines, USANA, Medibank and FedEx provided spectators with information, giveaways and competitions through the week.

The event’s official website, apiainternationalsydney.com.au, was the main source for content online, keeping tennis fans across Australia and the world updated of the latest news and scores from the event.

The site was visited by 1,231,653 people, a 500% increase on 2011, and there were 4,208,611 page views, a 300% increase on 2011. The event’s official Facebook page continued to grow with 6,544 fans and the YouTube channel boasted 274,537 video views during the week of the event.

The 2011-12 year has been one of challenge for Tennis NSW. The Company has met its obligations to its members and to the NSW Government but it has come at a cost. In keeping with current trends, Tennis Australia has provided excellent support for community tennis programs and because of this support we continue to assist members with their tennis needs. This means we now have eight Community Tennis Officers working each day with Members.

I submit for your information the Statement of Financial Position as of 30 June 2012; and,The Statement of Comprehensive Income for the same period.

The Company has realized an operating loss of $54,368 before the application of non-cash charges. These non-cash items of lease amortisation, depreciation, sinking fund and employee entitlements totalled $456,649.

There was also an unrealized loss of investments of $48,667 and the realized loss of $961,796 on the Company’s Managed Investments. The final deficit for the period is $1,521,481. The Company’s total equity at the end of the period was $16,985,583.

As members will see, the Company has again spent considerable resources on the Sydney Olympic Park Ten-nis Centre. The 2011-12 expenditure on the Centre was $874,342, which included $235,763 on general main-tenance; some $345,646 on utilities; and, $218,315 on government charges. These annual lease obligations are increasing as the Centre ages.

In 2012, the board has actively engaged the Sydney Olympic Park Authority to get relief for these costs. It is a slow process but necessary if the Company is to remain at the Centre. As part of these negotiations, the Company has reviewed its reporting mechanisms in particular the treatment of its Sinking Fund obligations under the lease it holds on the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

Members will find written statements from the Company’s auditor, Nexia Court & Co. The 2011-12 audit process was thorough and completed within the Company’s timeline. Our General Manager-Corporate Services, Helen Hu and her team have provided the auditors with all required support. My personal thanks go to Director Mick Parslow, who has assisted in this audit. Our unqualified audit report is testimony to their efforts.

It is important to recognise the work of the Audit and Risk Committee in this audit process. The Committee, of Des Nicholl AM, Mick Parslow, Harry Beck, Wayne Pascoe and led by Chair Greg Doyle, has provided a review mechanism for these reports and other important financial matters during the year. Our auditor was again very complimentary in recognizing the support he received and the quality of the papers presented to him.

Tennis NSW is an asset rich organization and it relies on these assets to generate income to support services and programs. The current investment climate is a challenge for everyone but it has greatly affected our income and the value of these assets. In this financial climate, careful and prudent management of resources will assist the Company to continue to aid and assist Members.

6. Review of OperationsDuring the year, the company continued to engage in its principal activity, the results of which are disclosed in the attached financial statements and item 5 of this Directors’ Report.

7. State of AffairsThe Company has complied with Australian Account-ing Standards as issued by the Australian Accounting Standards Board.

During the financial year 2011, the Company reviewed the performance of the Company funds under management and determined to liquidate some of the equity holdings and place the proceeds into term deposits. It was decided to keep a share portfolio of nine premium Australian companies.

This share portfolio is managed by the board under the advice of the Investment Advisory Sub-Committee with a medium to long term investment strategy. The value of the share portfolio as of 30 June 2012 is $5,427,862. At the 30 June 2012, the cash held in term deposits was $9,279,492. LEASE OF SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK TENNIS CENTRE FROM SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK AUTHORITY (SOPA)

The Company occupies the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre under a lease from SOPA which expires on 9 December 2024. The Company has three options to renew, each for a period of five years.

Under the terms of the lease the Company has a respon-sibility to repair and maintain the Tennis Centre in good condition. The lease requires the Company to develop a venue management plan which in turn requires that an Asset Management Plan (AMP) be adopted which projects the refurbishment and replacement of the principal components of the premises at projected times during the term of the occupancy.

The most recent Asset Management Plan projects potential future refurbishment costs over the remaining term of the original lease at levels which are outside the Company’s capacity to pay, if the Company is to remain sustainable.

The directors of the Company are in the midst of negotiations with SOPA with a view to modifying the terms of the lease to the extent that is necessary to render continued occupancy of the site as viable for the Company.

Historically, SOPA have been very supportive of the Company and our sport and the Board is optimistic that a revised occupancy arrangement which is suitable to both parties, will be agreed to.

Apart from the above-mentioned matters, no significant matters or significant changes in the state of the affairs of the company occurred during the financial year.

8. Events Subsequent to Balance DateThere has not arisen in the interval between the end of the financial year and the date of this report any item, transaction or event of a material and unusual nature likely, in the opinion of the directors of the company to significantly affect the operations of the company, the results of those operations, or the state of the affairs of the Company in future financial years.

9. Likely DevelopmentsThe Company will continue to pursue its principal activities whilst attempting to develop additional revenue streams to assist the development of the sport of tennis. It is not expected that the results in future years will be adversely affected by the continuation of these operations.

10. Environmental RegulationsThe Company’s operations are not subject to any significant environmental regulations under Australian Law.

11. Indemnification and Insurance of Officers

Indemnification

The Company has agreed to indemnify the directors of the Company against all liabilities to another person (other than the Company or a related body corporate) that may arise from their position as directors of the company, except where the liability arises out of conduct involving a lack of good faith. SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES The significant policies which have been adopted in the preparation of this financial report are: Reporting Entity and Basis of Preparation

Reporting Entity Tennis New South Wales Limited (“the Company”) is a company domiciled in Australia. The address of the company’s registered office is Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre 1 Rod Laver Drive, Sydney Olympic Park, NSW.

Statement of Compliance The financial report is a general purpose financial report which has been prepared in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (“AASBs”) (including Australian Interpretations) adopted by the Australian Accounting Standards Board (“AASB”) and the Corporations Act 2001. Basis of Measurement The financial statements have been prepared on the historical cost basis except for the measurement of shares and Managed Investment Portfolios which are recorded at market value as at 30 June 2012. Functional and Presentation Currency The financial statements are presented in Australian dollars which is the company’s functional currency. Revenue Recognition Revenue is measured at fair value of the consideration received or receivable, revenue arising from a contract to provide services which can be reliably estimated and that interest revenue to be recognized on a time proportionate basis that takes into account the effective yield on the financial asset. Revenue, Fees, Sponsorships and Tournament Income Revenue from these sources is measured at a fair value arising from contracts to provide services which can be reliably measured. Financial Income Income from investments consisting of the managed investment portfolio and cash investments are brought to account on a realized and accrued basis respectively. Other Income Income from other sources is recognized when it is received. Distributions Revenue is recognized when distributions are received.

Sale of Non-Current Assets The gain or loss on the disposal of an item of property, plant and equipment is recognized on a net basis as revenue or an expense. Sinking Fund Provision During 2012, the company did not make a further provision for the SOP sinking fund, since the provisions of $1,500,000 previously set aside exceed the maximum potential requirements under the provision of the Lease with Sydney Olympic Park Authority. (See note 22 below)

Acquisition and Impairment of Assets All assets acquired including property, plant and equipment are initially recorded at their cost of acquisition at the date of acquisition, being the fair value of the consideration provided plus incidental costs directly attributable to the acquisition. An annual assessment is made as to whether the company’s assets are impaired and if an asset is impaired, the company must write the asset down to it’s recoverable amount . Related Party Disclosures Under AASB 124, the accounting standard requires the disclosure of the compensation of the Key Management Personnel (KMP). As a Not For Profit reporting entity, the entity must abide by the requirement. There are two important factors to consider namely (a) KMP are defined as those persons having authority and responsibility for planning, directing and controlling the activities of the entity ,directly or indirectly, including any director (whether executive or otherwise) of that entity and (b) compensation includes all employee benefits (as defined in AASB 119 Employee Benefits). Annual and Long Service Leave Short-term employee benefits such as Annual Leave are measured on the basis of nominal value and long-term employee benefits such as Long Service Leave are calculated at present values. Intangible Assets Capitalized Leasehold Cost Capitalized leasehold cost has been brought to account in relation to the NSW Tennis Centre located at Sydney Olympic Park. The capitalized leasehold cost will be amortized over a period of twenty-five years, being the term of its lease with Sydney Olympic Park Authority. Property, Plant and Equipment Useful lives All property, plant and equipment, with the exception of freehold land, have limited useful lives and are depreciated/amortized using the straight-line method over their estimated useful lives. Assets are depreciated or amortized from the date of acquisition. Depreciation and amortization rates and methods are reviewed annually for appropriateness. When changes are made, adjustments are reflected prospectively in current and future periods only. Depreciation and amortization are expensed. The depreciation/amortization rates used for each class of asset are as follows: Depreciation rate 2012 2011 Plant, Furniture and Equipment 5%-40% 5%-40% Australian Tennis Museum 4%-10% 4%-10% Leasehold Improvement 4%-10% 4%-10% Clay Courts 10% 10% Income Tax

No income tax is payable as the company is a body exempt from income tax. Employee Entitlements The provisions for employee entitlement to annual leave and long service leave represent the amounts which the company has an obligation to pay resulting from employees’ services provided up to the balance date. The provisions include related on-costs.

NOTE m Comparatives

Where necessary, comparative information has been reclassified to achieve consistency in disclosure with current financial year amounts. Financial Assets - Managed Investment Portfolio and Shares Managed investment portfolio assets and shares assets are recorded at market value as at 30 June 2012. In accordance with the company’s investment policy the Managed Investment Portfolio and shares are invested for the medium to long term, however as these assets are readily realiseable, to comply with Australian Accounting Standards they are classified in the financial statements as current assets. Stock on Hand Stock on hand is carried at the lower of cost or net realisable value. Grassroots and Facility Reserve The Grassroots and Facility Reserve is established to provide for the grassroots development of tennis in New South Wales in the future. Refer to Note 15.

CONTINGENT LIABILITIES The Company occupies Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre under a lease from Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) which expires on 9 December 2024. Under the terms of the lease the Company has a responsibility to repair and maintain the Tennis Centre in good condition. The Company has prepared an Asset Management Plan which projects the refurbishment and replacement costs of the principal components of the premises over the term of the occupancy. The Asset Management Plan costs are for major expense items such as replacement of the entire seating in the Ken Rosewall arena, the refurbishment of lifts and electrical installations throughout the buildings. There are many such items. These costs are quite separate to routine maintenance costs which themselves range between $300,000 and $400,000 per annum. The lease provides that the Company contributes to a sinking fund designed to meet the Asset Management Plan costs of refurbishing the premises and grounds, however, under the term of the lease the Company only became responsible to make contributions to this fund commencing in the year ended 30 June 2010 at a maximum rate of $50,000 per annum. The Company made this initial contribu-tion during year ended 2012. By September 2012, the Company will make a further contribution to the sinking fund of up to $100,000. Over past years the Company has set aside annually various sums, but more recently $250,000 per annum, to a provision for its obligations under the sinking fund arrangement and as at 30 June 2012, had provided a total of $1.5 million for this purpose. The Board of the Company is of the opinion that based on the Asset Management Plan projections for refurbishment costs for the Centre, that the sinking fund provisions made by the Company will be substantially deficient to meet the projected refurbishment costs for the centre during the remainder of the initial lease term. The Company is in the midst of negotiations with SOPA concerning the unsustainability of existing arrangements in respect of the Asset Management Plan costs, however, the directors of the Company are optimistic that acceptable terms of occupancy can be arranged with SOPA going forward. PRIOR PERIOD RESTATEMENT OF COMPREHENSIVE INCOME For the year ended 30 June 2011 and prior period, the Company recorded an investment revaluation reserve that disclosed the net difference between accumulated market value of the Company’s managed investment portfolio and its cost base. In 2012 it was determined that the reserve included realised gains and losses that should have been separately identified in the statement of comprehensive income. Accordingly, the financial comparatives have been amended and all accumulated increments and decrements to the managed investment portfolio are recorded and disclosed in retained surplus (Note 16) and the investment revaluation reserve has been derecognised and discontinued. The prior period restatement of comprehensive income to retained surplus is $1,003,115 and there is $ nil effect to total assets, total liabilities and total equity.

Directors’ responsibility for the financial reportThe directors of the company are responsible for the preparation and fair presentation of the financial report in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (including the Australian Accounting Interpretations) and the Corporations Act 2001. This responsibility includes establishing and maintaining internal control relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of the financial report that is free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, selecting and applying appropriate accounting policies; and making accounting estimates that are reasonable in the circumstances.

Auditors’ responsibilityOur responsibility is to express an opinion on the financial report based on our audit. We conducted our audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. These Auditing Standards require that we comply with relevant ethical requirements relating to audit engagements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance whether the financial report is free from material misstatement.

An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial report. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the entity’s preparation and fair presentation of the financial report in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity’s internal control. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates made by the directors, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial report.

We believe the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit opinion.

IndependenceIn conducting our audit, we have complied with the independence requirements of the Corporations Act 2001. We confirm that the independence declaration required by the Corporations Act 2001, provided to the directors of Tennis New South Wales Limited would be in the same terms if provided to the directors as at the date of this auditor’s report.
