Tennessee was picked by the media to finish 11th in the
Southeastern Conference this season. With six conference games left
to play, the Vols are tied for fifth in the league with a 5-5 SEC
record. The Vols have won eight of their last nine games in
Thompson-Boling Arena. Tennessee currently ranks fifth nationally
in average home attendance (17,192). The Vols are riding a streak
of six consecutive seasons with a national top-five finish in
attendance. Cuonzo Martins mentor, Gene Keady, got his start in the
Division I coaching ranks as an assistant at Arkansas under Eddie
Sutton in 1975. As a head coach, Cuonzo Martin owns a 1-1 record
against Arkansas. Current Florida assistant coach John Pelphrey was
the Razorbacks head coach for both those meetings. Martin and
current Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson have never faced one
another as head coaches despite the fact that both men were
coaching in the same state (Missouri) for the past three seasons.
Current Vols accounted for just seven of the 65 points Tennessee
scored in last seasons loss at Arkansas (Trae Golden scored five,
and Jeronne Maymon had two). UT has held four of its 10 SEC
opponents thus far to fewer than 60 points. In SEC home games,
Tennessee is holding its foes to 57.8 points per game while going
4-1. With Saturdays road win at No. 8 Florida, the Vols have now
swept the regular-season series with the Gators in three of the
last five years. Tennessee recorded 28 assists on 43 made field
goals in its two wins last week. The Vols have played an SEC-high
nine ranked opponents this season, going 3-6. In SEC play, junior
forward Jeronne Maymon leads the Vols in scoring (13.7 ppg),
rebounding (8.4 rpg) and field-goal percentage (.542). His nine
steals in SEC games rank second on the team. Junior guard Skylar
McBee has scored at least 10 points in four of UTs last five games,
and he has started each of the last three contests. Tennessee is
9-0 when McBee scores in double figures.

somewhat surprisingly, it came on the road, where the Vols had been

mustered anything resembling a legitimate comeback ... The Vols
outscored the Gators 36 to 14 in the paint on Saturday and had more
than double the amount of second-chance points ... UT took it to

that effort with a 22-point night at Memphis Jan. 4 ... The
sophomore suffered the broken nose in practice Dec. 16, and he did
not miss any games (sat out just one practice).
Calipari Offers High Praise For MartinKentucky head coach John
Calipari had this to say after his first head-to-head clash with
Cuonzo Martins squad on Jan. 14: I am so impressed with what coach
Martin has done. I keep coming back to if you want to win
championships, youve got to be able to guard in the half court,
youve got to be physical and youve got to have toughness. I dont
really care what their record is; (Tennessee) is an NCAA Tournament
team. Hes doing it by changing a culture. Hes getting them to
guard. The second thing is hes doing it in recruiting. I cant
imagine theyre not ecstatic.
Woolridge Getting More Minutes On The WingHead coach Cuonzo
Martin on Jan. 16 indicated that senior Renaldo Woolridge would
start see-ing minutes at the No. 3 position after playing primarily
in the post to that point in the season ... Martin praised
Woolridges energy and enthusiasm this year ... At top-ranked
Kentucky on Jan. 31, Woolridge went 5-for-5 from 3-point range in
the first half en route to a career-high-tying 17 points ... Fellow
senior Cameron Tatum is the starter at the No. 3 spot.

Twelve Double-Doubles In 25 GamesNo player on this years
Tennessee roster had a double-double last season, but the Vols have
logged 12 double-doubles this year in 25 games ... Jeronne Maymon
has seven, while Trae Golden, Kenny Hall, Yemi Makanjuola, Jarnell
Stokes and Cameron Tatum each have one ... In 34 games last year,
UT produced 10 double-doubles, and all of the players responsible
are no longer with the program.
Maymon Goes #BeastMode vs. Top-10 TigersJunior forward Jeronne
Maymons 32-point, 20-rebound game against eighth-ranked Memphis at
the Maui Invitational (11/22/11) was noteworthy on numerous
accounts: It was just the sixth 30-20 game in Tennessee history; it
was the first since Steve Hamer posted 31-21 against Alabama in the
SEC Tournament on March 7, 1996, in New Orleans (UT won 77-65). It
was the first 30-20 game by a major conference player since
Oklahomas Blake Griffin posted one in 2009. The previous two before
Griffins were recorded by Kansas States Michael Beasley and Texas
Kevin Durant. The 20 rebounds set a Maui Invitational record,
breaking the previous mark of 19, set most recently by Kansas Nick
Collison against Seton Hall in 2001. His 32 points gave him 72 on
the season (four games). In 23 previ-ous college games coming into
this year, he totaled 73 points. His 32 points vs. Memphis came
close to equaling his scoring total from all of last season (37
points in 14 games). His 32 points and 20 rebounds both currently
stand as the top individual scoring and rebounding efforts by an
SEC player this season.
Tennessee Earns Seventh-Place Finish In MauiTennessee earned a
seventh-place finish in the 2011 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational in
November ... The Vols dropped a closely-contested opener to No. 6
Duke and then fell to No. 8 Memphis by two points in double
overtime before defeating host school Chaminade on the events final
day ... UT averaged 83.3 points and 39.7 rebounds per game in Maui
while shooting .457 from the field, .393 from 3-point range and
.789 at the free-throw line ... Jeronne Maymon led the Vols in
scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (10.7 rpg) ... Trae Golden and
Jordan McRae both averaged 14.7 points.
Numerous Degrees Within ReachTwo current Vols are on pace to
earn their degrees this academic year ... Those players are Tyler
Summitt (Communications, with a Business minor) and Renaldo
Woolridge (Sociology) ... Cameron Tatum (Africana Studies)
graduated in December ... Since December 2009, 10 Tennessee
basket-ball players have earned their degrees.
Bring On The BestIn keeping with recent tradition, Tennessees
sched-ule once again ranks among the most difficult in the nation
... Here are some numbers of note: 17 Naismith Trophy candidates UT
will face 14 Games against 2011 NCAA Tournament teams 10 Games
against top-50 RPI teams from 2010-11
Chievous Likely To RedshirtCuonzo Martin indicated on Nov. 15
that freshman guard Quinton Chievous will likely redshirt this
season ... Chievous has not appeared in any games ... Said Martin:
Its just a matter of (Quinton) being more consistent on the
perimeter, even though he can shoot and handle the ball really
well. Quinton is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, guy on
our team, and he can get to the rim as well as any-one. His future
with us is as a guard.
November Signees: Reese, Edwards Ink With VolsTennessee signed a
pair of tall, athletic wings dur-ing the November signing period
... 6-7, 205-pound Derek Reese, of Olympia High School in Orlando,
Fla., joins 6-6, 210-pound DMontre Edwards (pronounced
duh-MAHN-tray), from Charleston, S.C. ... Edwards is currently
enrolled at Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Fla., and will have
two years of eligibility remaining at Tennessee ... Both players
plan to enroll this summer.
Tennessee Roster BreakdownThe Vols 2011-12 roster features 19
players (13 scholarship student-athletes) representing three
nations and eight states ... Seven Vols hail from the state of
Tennessee, while four are from Georgia ... Tennessee has two
seniors, five juniors, five sopho-mores and seven freshmen ... The
roster includes 12 guards, six forwards and one center ... 10 Vols
stand 6-5 or shorter, and nine are 6-6 or taller.
Martins Teams Value The BasketballCuonzo Martins teams are known
for valuing the basketball ... The year before his arrival at
Missouri State, the Bears ranked 200th nationally in turn-overs per
game and 142nd in assist/turnover ratio ... After just three
seasons in Springfield, Martin saw MSU improve 193 spots in the
national rankings for turnovers per game and 115 spots nationally

2011-12 TENNESSEE BASKETBALL UTsports.com /// @Vol_Hoops
Vols Enjoying World-Class FacilitiesThe University of Tennessee
has invested more than $40 million into its basketball facilities
since the end of the 2006-07 campaign ... Prior to the 2007-08
sea-son, UT added a basketball-only practice facility and began the
first phase of renovations to Thompson-Boling Arena ... The $19
million first phase of renova-tions included the addition of 32
luxury suites that are located in the existing north balcony, a
loge area just below the luxury suites that includes 166 side court
seats, new seats for the entire arena, a $3 million center-hung
scoreboard and concourse refurbishments, such as graphics and other
ameni-ties ... The renovations took Thompson-Bolings capacity down
from 24,535 to 21,678 ... The Vols state-of-the-art basketball
practice facility, Pratt Pavilion, houses two full-size gymnasiums,
one for each of the mens and womens basketball teams, as well as an
athletic training room, weight room and film-study room ... Prior
to the 2010-11 season, a pedestrian bridge was constructed lead-ing
from the G-10 parking garage to the arena, an elevator was added at
the arenas northwest end as a customer service amenity and new
exterior signage was installed on the buildings facade ... The UT
athletics department renovated the mens and womens basketball
offices at the arena during the 2010-11 campaign, creating a new
and impres-sive front door for the basketball programs ... And new
to Thompson-Boling Arena this year is a 360-degree LED ribbon board
that runs along the bottom of the upper deck.
Legends In The RaftersFour Tennessee basketball legends are
memorial-ized with banners in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters ...
During a halftime ceremony on March 1, 2006, banners honoring
longtime head coach Ray Mears (1962-77) and beloved radio Voice of
the Vols John Ward (1964-99) were unveiled ... The UT mens
basketball program had never retired a jersey prior to the 2006-07
season, but after nearly 100 years of hardwood history, Bernard
King (1975-77) was the first player to earn that distinguished
honor ... Kings No. 53 jersey was officially retired during a
halftime ceremony at the Feb. 13, 2007, home game against Kentucky
(UT won 89-85) ... Then on March 2, 2008, Ernie Grunfeld (1974-77)
became the sec-ond UT player to receive the ultimate honor, when
his No. 22 jersey was unveiled in the rafters during halftime of
Tennessees 63-60 victory over Kentucky ... Allan Houston (1990-93)
became the third such honoree at March 6, 2011, game against
Kentucky.
Tennessee Season-Ticket Sales at 13,200+Tennessee has sold more
than 13,200 season-ticket packages for the 2011-12 season, Cuonzo
Martins debut campaign on Rocky Top ... The Vols current total of
season-ticket sales exceeds the capac-ity of five SEC arenas (Ole
Miss [capacity 9,061], Auburn [9,121], Mississippi State [10,500],
Georgia [10,523] and Florida [12,000]).
Thompson-Boling Arena Turns 25-Years-OldThe 2011-12 campaign
marks Tennessees 25th season of basketball in Thompson-Boling Arena
... To commemorate the anniversary, the Volunteers have highlighted
great moments in TBA history on this years tickets ... Promotions
at UT home games will look back on the great players and plays in
the facilitys history ... The Vols are 291-103 (.739) all-time in
Thompson-Boling Arena, and the venue has hosted 73 mens games for
which the attendance exceeded 20,000 ... In total, TBA has hosted
more than 6.2 million fans for UT mens games.
Friendly ConfinesIn 2010, Cuonzo Martins Missouri State team
tied Kansas for the national Division I lead in home wins with 19
... And Missouri States average home attendance increased more than
1,350 fans per game during Martins tenure there ... Those figures
make for a tremendously exciting outlook of what his future teams
could accomplish in the friendly (and rabid) confines of
Thompson-Boling Arena (21,678 capacity).
Vols Among Nations Most Valuable ProgramsIn the spring of 2010,
the Tennessee mens basket-ball program was included on Forbes.coms
list of the 20 most valuable college basketball programs in the
country ... The figures showed UT hoops with a value of $14.1
million and a profit of $8.6 million in 2009-10.
Vols Currently Fifth Nationally In AttendanceThe Volunteers
currently rank fifth nationally with an average home attendance of
17,192 ... The top four are: Kentucky, Syracuse, Louisville and
North Carolina.Rank School Avg. Home Att.1. Kentucky 23,5982.
Syracuse 22,9543. Louisville 21,4004. North Carolina 19,9605.
Tennessee 17,1926. Wisconsin 17,1717. Memphis 16,6978. Kansas
16,300
Tennessee Stands AloneTennessee is the only Division I school
ever to rank in the top five nationally in attendance for football,
mens basketball and womens basket-ball in the same year ... UT
accomplished that feat for the eighth time in 2010-11.
Home Crowds of 20,000 Nothing New For VolsTennessee has played
in front of 47 home crowds of 20,000 or larger dating to the
2005-06 season ... The crowd of 22,326 for the 2009 Gonzaga game
marked the largest at Thompson-Boling Arena since capacity was
reduced from 24,535 to 21,678 prior to the 2007-08 campaign ...
Tennessee also has hosted ESPN College GameDay twice in the last
four seasons.
The Volunteers At Thompson-Boling Arena Thompson-Boling Arena is
hosting its 25th season in 2011-12 ... The Vols have won nearly 75
percent of their games in Thompson-Boling Arena and have ranked in
the top 10 nationally in attendance 11 times, including an active
streak of five consecutive seasons in which UT has ranked in the
top five. Tennessee is 291-103 (.739) in 25 seasons in
Thompson-Boling Arena. Since the 1998 season, the Vols are 191-44
(.813) in Thompson-Boling Arena. The Vols are 87-30 against SEC
teams at home over the last 11 seasons. Tennessee has won 35 of its
last 45 SEC games at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Vols have won each of their last four home games against the
defending national champion. Sporting News recently tabbed

Southeastern Conference for three consecutive years.
